People really want to sign Widdop doesn’t matter how good a kicker he is if he is hardly ever on the field

What makes you think he will hardly be on the field? If he is good enough he will keep his spot.

He’s not going to start though. Brooks is better , ad is better and mbye is first choice fullback as of mid December 2020. ADs goal kicking was really coming on at the end of the year , so are we massive,y desperate for a goal kicker .

He's a better FB than Mbye - in fact he is a better everything than Mbye.

Would the club take back Matt Lodge? From what I read his body is busted but if not, he is tough as and would come heavily subsidised by Brisbane.

I'm sure he'll get a big NO from most on here given his appalling behaviour a few years back although he does seem to have grown up an awful lot (I know, low bar.)

If fit, I would take him, I said earlier he would make us a beast of a forward pack.

I will say though , I was quick to bag him , considering I assumed the article was about us not signing Nofa yet , but he does have a point regarding Benji and Widdop . IF and that’s a big IF , we did nab Widdop , a lot of supporters , who lets say , arnt as tuned in as the people on here , will go bananas . Look I’d be ok with benji running around in CC cup , and acting as a halves coach to first grade , and a poo hits the fan , replacement .
In fact I think he would excel in that position . What I’m not ok with , is inevitably him signing , and the crawleys of the world writing articles saying how badly we are mistreating a club legend by banishing him to CC cup . Which is why I’d be ok with Widdop . Because we have no loyalty or history to him , and AD will be the first choice 6 , and if he plays well, the long term 6 .

Widdop also has the ability to play FB, a goal kicker and 4yrs younger than Benji as well. Not arguing a case either way but seems he has enough to offer.

No thanks. Another footballer looking for a retirement package. We've learnt nothing from Reynolds if Widdop is being considered.

Just offer him a 1 year deal take it or leave it

I agree, but like Benji, he’s not thinking reserve grade, he is a competitor, he also has years of experience, but he has to earn a spot.

Yep . As long as he’s aware of where he sits in the pecking order , and it’s clear as day , he has to out perform the others , and then some , to play first grade .
The issue is the crap , that will come, with having anyone who used to be that good running around in reserve grade.
You know all the “experts” will have him in the 17 , then round 1 when he’s named for the magpies it will 360 and telegraph articles calling us a basket case . And people with no idea will lap it up , thus repeating our usual media cycle .

If Widdop was not looking like the worlds best player in SL, he must be injured or is just not the player he once was.

He also wanted to get out of his last 2 contracts early for family reasons. If an existing player has family issues you support them but I would not be signing players with a history of being distracted with off-field issues.

Widdop fills a hole in our roster, but would not pay more than the reported 300k he is looking for.

Mansour is not required and would be a terrible signing on anything above minimum wage.

Wonder how long it’ll be until there’s any more movement on the transfer market. Seems to have slowed down for the moment, maybe it’ll pick up in a few weeks. Wouldn’t surprise me if we have a few spots open for a while

Mmmm id hardly call giving a toss about your family as a distraction.Isn’t he married to an Aussie ? Being in Europe this year is probably the worst year in the last 30-40 to be over there .
It’s well documented that a switched on person away from the job leads to a switched on person at the job.
It’s pretty cold to hold that against him if it’s legit.

People think Widdop could play no1?? IMO the way the game is played these days he would be targeted and found out. Love to have his goal kicking skills in the team, but you can’t hide a player anymore.

With AD at 6 he’s the only person we have who can play fullback.

Mbye is actually critical for 2021 now. Provides depth in fullback and 5/8 which we now need. If Walters leaves he’s even more critical.

At this point in time Mbye is first choice fullback. We don’t really have anyone else who can play that role besides Doueihi and he’s out 5/8. It’s a bit of a worry that we don’t have much depth there, Mbye has had a lot of knee issues.

Benji's ego getting in the way of his career. Classic. I still remember when he snobbed the Dragons of a $300K/year deal. They took the deal off the table. Almost immediately after he was asking to sign the deal. The deal was gone, Dragons said they had nothing there for him. That is how he ended up at Brisbane on minimum wage.

He should be grateful he was able to extend his career for as long as he did with us. In my opinion it is he who has disrespected us. The current situation is his own doing. I hope the club has nothing to do with him for a few years. Eventually we will need to patch things up in the name of public relations, but not now.

Let's not forget how he paraded himself in an Auckland Blues shirt mid way thru a season with Wests Tigers. And then he floundered in the Yawnion game in NZ.

He's got history of making bad decisions.

I don't think we should invest time it takes to make combinations on some one that is unreliable and does not finish their contracts.
