People really want to sign Widdop doesn’t matter how good a kicker he is if he is hardly ever on the field

What makes you think he will hardly be on the field? If he is good enough he will keep his spot.

He’s not going to start though. Brooks is better , ad is better and mbye is first choice fullback as of mid December 2020. ADs goal kicking was really coming on at the end of the year , so are we massive,y desperate for a goal kicker .

I agree, but like Benji, he’s not thinking reserve grade, he is a competitor, he also has years of experience, but he has to earn a spot.

Yep . As long as he’s aware of where he sits in the pecking order , and it’s clear as day , he has to out perform the others , and then some , to play first grade .
The issue is the crap , that will come, with having anyone who used to be that good running around in reserve grade.
You know all the “experts” will have him in the 17 , then round 1 when he’s named for the magpies it will 360 and telegraph articles calling us a basket case . And people with no idea will lap it up , thus repeating our usual media cycle .

Regarding signing Widdop, it depends why Madge played Benji for most of last year. Did he genuinely think he was the best 5/8 at the club and wanted his experience on the field or was he pressured by people above him who thought it was good for memberships and ticket sales?

I don't think benji has the right people surrounding him and reads into his own press a bit much.

Thankfully our team can move on from that era finally.

I hope he somehow turns this around and retire gracefully so he can remembered as the legend he is.

100%. He has never had the right people surrounding him. The defection to rugby union was bizarre, as he did it for less money (reported $600K, then $500K to St George, compared to the 2 year $750K extension here). He has lost so much money over his career from decisions like this.

Benji did not warrant selection on form. Club politics is the only conclusion as to why he kept his spot.

Would the club take back Matt Lodge? From what I read his body is busted but if not, he is tough as and would come heavily subsidised by Brisbane.

I'm sure he'll get a big NO from most on here given his appalling behaviour a few years back although he does seem to have grown up an awful lot (I know, low bar.)

A 1 year deal with Broncos picking up $450'000 could be considered
But he must pass a fitness test 1st
Club options for years 2,3 and 4
If we don't keep him then back to Broncos he goes
There is no way in hell I would sign him for 4 years
I actually hope brocos are stuck with him
I don't think any team should be paying more than $300'000 a season for him

Like others, we have the money
Let's wait for a Crichton/ Stagg type of player
Or Sitili Tupouniua

I disagree with that. Whilst I have no problem with him not being offered an extension. On form he played way better than Reynolds last year. Stats back that up. Reynolds had a worse defensive record than Marshall and provided almost no attacking output

Deals for Widdop and Mansour would be backwards steps for this club. We’re young and developing, whereas mansour is at the tail end of his career on big money and Widdop though cheap is in the same spot. They’re signings for teams that need to be immediately successful. We’re not going to win the comp in the next 2 years with them there so why bother wasting cap and roster space and losing out on more youngsters in other positions. Would be severely disappointed in the board if either of these 2 are brought in as it’s the complete opposite of what the team is trying to build

Yes we are desperate for a Reliable goal kicker.

The ONLY reason why youd sign Widdup is because you think he cld still play in the NRL. as a 6 or 1,positions where we need some competition. We dont want a 31 yo "reserve" or " back up".
His shoulders were a major issue ,and youd need a thorough medical examination to determine whether he cld last a season or two..something we normally dont do very well.
Any doubt..forget him as were not buying a history reel

Thanks PAWS, he has talent to burn, what a prospect!

What position does he play? Haven't heard anyone talk him up at all.

He plays in the halves. Has also spent some time at Hooker. There’s a highlights package going around on the forum somewhere. Pretty impressive.

Lodge, 25, is on a contract worth up to $800,000 a year.

Am I the only one gob-smacked that Lodge is on $800,000? His manager is a genius.

He has to pay off that money he owes that family he scarred for life

If fit, I would take him, I said earlier he would make us a beast of a forward pack.

What happened, happened, he’s eligible to play and we want to make the 8.

No - let him rot.
