Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Just on Lenui - he has stated that he signed on at Penrith for less than he was being offered elsewhere. Whats a bet the 3 i named above do the same.

@EverythingWests
Zac Cini and Daine Laurie have been both training with the Penrith Panthers. Very interesting. Hope we haven’t released Cini regardless, would be a complete waste

He posts on the forum here.. probably not a Tigers supporter.. 15 year old wanting to get a Instagram following and supports players not coming to the Wests Tigers.

What a stupid thing to say hahahaha

Probably is, wont speak the mind next time.

other then that, can anyone provide any information on the camp that the team went to over the last 3 days? Wonder if they smashed it while doing so.. personally i'd be putting them into another camp during Jan-Feb.

My son in law is the head chef at Peppers at Kingscliff. He told me a week ago that WestsTigers were coming to the resort. It's the same place that the Warriors stayed at before they moved to Tamworth. I'll ask him how it went.

Wow! you're making me feel hungry @diedpretty.
Do we get a discount if we mention your name? :flushed:

Interesting. They need Mansour gone to make a competitive offer to re-sign Crichton?

No way - should show Ivan our intentions and go hard for Crichton.

Don't need to bring Crichton into the picture for mine, as I just want to see the traitor suffer a little from his cap decisions for a couple of years, even if it pales in significance to what he left us at WT to deal, with it continuing into a third year to come.

I'd love to get Crichton but i dont think that will realistically happen.I would hope that we or others come in with some fairly big offers to force Penrith to pay a lot more than what they would have wanted to. Ivan is going to have to pay big money to keep Crichton, Luai and Yeo and i would imagine they would have paid more than they wanted for Lenui. Ivan walked away from the cap mess here but i hope he is going to end up in a bigger hole at Penrith.

Brooks and douei need to stand up before decent players want to come here

Kepoa or an upgrade like Ogden would be best at fullback, the ones we tried were very ordinary. We need speed and /or experience in this position for 2021.Anything can happen in 2022 with so many off contract at all clubs we are the best situated for dollars in the bank We could afford to pay overs for a couple of top players.

Kepoa is suspect under the high ball opposition teams would be salivating if he was at the back

Didn't they find he had an eye problem which has been corrected in the
off season

I'm not sure maybe they did. I have heard he has a great attitude so I do hope he goes well just not convinced we would be any better served at fullback with AJ than we would with mbye. Don't get me wrong I'm not a fan of Mbye just think they both have similar issues under high balls from what I have seen so far.

Ivan may end up in a cap mess at Penrith, but at least the players that are chewing up the cap are quality. Its possible that they have to pay top dollar for the likes of Cleary, Crichton. Luiai, Kikau, but if you are going to screw your cap, Id rather screw it up on those names than Reynolds, Packer, Mbye

Those four Panthers on their worst day are twice the player that Reynolds or Packer dream to be on their best day.

I think that depends on JTJ and to lesser an extent BJ. If JTJ can get back to something resembling his best we have an attacking weapon and we seem to have a million young centres coming through that we hope one can be good.

Second row on the other hand, we are more sparse throughout the grades.

Our forwards looking ok, our priorities are every other position ,

We are looking good on middle forwards but second rowers are where Old Mother Hubbard is. We really only have three realistic starters in Luci, Garner & Blore, after that it’s MCK, Seyfarth and a promoted development kid

Agree, unless one of our own "Blore" or others jumps out of the box the pickings are slim.
Crighton, Mcinness, Fincunne, Yeo and Harris are top shelf but will be hard to remove from their current sides. More realistic and established players would be B Smith, Sironen, Sua, Capewell, Peachey, Fitzgibbon, who are all off contract next year.
That leads me to the players lacking opportunity / limited minutes players, ie Young, Niukora, Butcher x Brothers, J Curran Bunty Afoa and S Talakai.

Now for out of the box players C Watson, would cover full-back, hooker, and 5/8 and eventually to be a roving ball distributing lock. Injuries cruelled him last year, achilles I think, but this kid 24 years, 90kgs, and a threat with the ball. Could he handle the middle, he started 7 times at 9 for 80 minutes except once in 2019 for the Knights yes he can. Size/weight too small, anyone heard of Murray and Radley they go alright, he would only need to play 65min, covers hooker, "and still a threat" this allows Madge a different dimension to our bench. 2 years with a third in the club's favour at 500 with KPI's, worst case we have a much better version of Mybe sitting at 14 at half the price.
Cheaper than B Smith but would allow us to have cover before deciding which hooker going forward Liddle/Simpkin as I dont think we will able to keep both

I'd rather give Mbye a go at lock than waste money and a roster spot on Watson. Mbye is the same size as Murray and only a couple of kilos lighter than B Smith. He has played in the middle and the last time he played hooker he made 59 tackles and only missed 1. He has ball playing ability and would be quick for a lock.

It’s a reasonable idea but I don’t think Mbye’s heart would be in it. He’s really not that professional when it’s not what he wants (my opinion).

Mybe we signed him on big $ to play fullback and all he has done of late is played fillback.
Will give a tick for versatility but play him fullback or bench player (Utility) in 2021, if can't measure up move him on like Reynolds, certainly not captain material.

Ok with this if true

I think the article would have more credibility if the author had quoted Seymour Butz, Hugh Jass, Drew P. Weiner or Mike Rotch rather than quoting Ben Elias.
But to be fair, making James Tamou our captain seems like a no brainer.

Lot's of "fingers crossed I hope" going on next season it seems.

1 ??????
6 Hope Do E is the correct fit
3 Hope he gets back to his best
4 Ditto
7 Hope he can guide this team around and gel with his spine
9 Hope he can firstly stay on the field, secondly be what we need at 9 (I have serious doubts)
And his understudy, we hope he's all he's cracked up to be and could handle stepping up.

All of these ??
Along with the hope that Blore and Stefano live up to their potential are the reasons why I see another disappointing season ahead.

Conversely, whilst I am unsure on the number one filling our requirements and second rowers a bit thin on the ground, so agree on Blore needing to step up in the absence of a significant signing there, I am reasonably happy with the cattle elsewhere and looking forward to the season.

Unlike many, I doubt that WT will miss Harry much, if at all actually.
Even disregarding the supposedly red hot prospect in Simpkins, I love the quick and accurate out in front pass that Liddle consistently provides, expecting Brooks and Douehi to shine with the time and space that service gives, with those wider also prospering on the back of it and not being run out of space on the right.

A much lighter and fit Leilua plus the speed of Roberts firing for WT in the centres is a real possibility and if not there are plenty of reasonable options to otherwise fulfil the role for mine, with a post remedial eye surgery Kepaoa set to shine and Talau as well.

Your first sentence says it all, if you don't have a gun no1 you can forget about it.
The rest as I said are big "ifs".

I don't think the top teams need a gun no 1. You need a fair few gun players though. We don't have a team of stars. Fullback and one edge backrow spot to me should be our priority signings so in our case I think we do need a gun fullback or edge backrower. You'd think we'd make the 8 with Tedesco and Angus Crichton in our team. Knowing our luck they'd both do their ACL's in the first game.

The thing is we need real high quality players now and maybe you just get them via developing juniors.

The reality is we don't have a gun in our spine at all, the top teams have at least 2.

If we're to go any good at least one of our spine need to have a season like no other X5, I can't see it happening unfortunately.
Realistically how much better is Brooks going to get, or Do E, or even Liddle?

If we couldn't make the 8 with Grant we're not going to with Liddle and no number 1.

The reality is, we don't have a quality number 1, Brooks is Brooks and were hoping the other 2 have the seasons of their wildest dreams (and we still might not go any good)

Think AD will get better playing 5/8 at a senior level.
Brooks was good a few years back has forwards that can go forward now could improve his running game?
Realistically he also knows that needs to perform in 2021.

Liddle/Simpkins - Should have learned from Harry, both work ethic and Farah there to mentor so improvement.

Fullback - Most likely Mybe at this stage could be a weak link, agree nil stars but spine needs developing won't happen over night with some players.

Mybe we signed him on big $ to play fullback and all he has done of late is played fillback.
Will give a tick for versatility but play him fullback or bench player (Utility) in 2021, if can't measure up move him on like Reynolds, certainly not captain material.

Never was Captain material. Talks the talk but can’t walk the walk. One of the weakest captains we have had.

He does talk the talk at a corporate level and has some smarts but i don't agree having dual captains like we had last year with Marshall/Mybe.

To be captain you need to inspire players both on and off the field and also back the coach and club
