He’s an excellent player. Doesn’t hurt to have a chat to him, if our hookers don’t work out for 2021 we can always give him a call for 2022.

any truth to the rumour we are signing benji for one year and letting walters go to broncos

Say whaaaat? Where did you hear this?

mate probably rubbish just Jimmy Smith was talking about it on SEN radio this morning now that Reynolds is gone and walters wants to play with his dad

Did he say we actually want Benji or was it a suggestion?

He said benji was keen and was talking to the club, and the club had reached out as a replacement for walters as he was confident he was leaving for Brisbane.
No mention of us in relation to money for benji though so it is probably not true in any case

So we get Staggs as a trade
No
How about Isaako ?
Milford ? As a clean swap for 12 months?

Milford I don't mind if it's a one year deal with the Broncs paying most of the freight as it reduces the risk and could be a fullback solution

Madge would get him fit and he'd be playing for is future

I havent seen him play a good game in years,so why would he suddenly do it if he came here?

With all the talented kids coming through why would we be this type of player? We have been ruined by buying discards,Packee,Moses,Reynolds,Jennings ,and people are suggesting,Milford,MAnsour etc.If clubs dont want them why do we?Look at signed talent-Laurie,Tannous,Kei.Fitzpatrick ,and others, some will make it ,some won;t .But you won;t develope a superstar from rejects

Do not rely on the so called talented kids.. around 10% and that is probable generous will make the grade ! This has always been the case so a smart club do sign proven performers to fill voids . Unfortunately Cleary was a disaster this was the exemption rather than the rule .

Normally i would agree, the reason i think this could be different is that we had mediocre talent in the lower grades for many years.Penrith would be seething at losing Laurie. We have bought wisely in the forwards to strengthen the top side ,and the recruiment in the lower grades has been outstanding.

Yes they seething, losing both Laurie *and* Burton has them really upset - I couldn’t be happier ?

Maybe as an envoy for Hartigan,I doubt with the present regime the negotiations that the coach has the final say,. Walters mentioned as much with the Donkeys.and i think most clubs do the same. After Desis back ended contracts at the dogs.Clearys stuff up with us,clubs have specialists making the calls.

If Mcinnes comes it is to play hooker and so it should be. If Ben Hunt is to play hooker at dragons they might be letting McInnes go and we would prob let Liddle go

McInnes is definitely a better hooker - could easily do what we did with Grant though and shift him to lock late in a game and have a hooker come off the bench.

McInness is an ordinary hooker, he is basically Matt McIllwrick. People forgive his horrible service because he 'tries really hard.' He went well at 13, but we can do better there

I feel like we need more detail before we can start casting stones at our captain.

And it really comes down to what he was eating. Can we find out what was on his plate?

It would answer a lot.

Smashed Avo - Just a catch up with an old friend
Eggs Benny - Potential sign up for 2022
Big Breakfast - Break the 2021 contract to go to the Tigers
Fruit Toast - Proving inside information about Hook’s plans
Chilli Scrambled Eggs - Providing advice to Madge after Mary applied for an assistant role at the tigers
B&E Roll - Chatting with Madge about a player swap that helps both teams
Bloody Mary - having a lol@souffs*

He’s not the best, but he’s not ordinary. He’s a great defender and is a great runner of the footy too. His passing game is not as expansive as other hookers and he doesn’t really have much of a kicking game. If our hookers don’t fire he’s definitely a good option.

My opinion anyway. Hopefully we won’t even need to pay more for another hooker and our guys go good

I'm curious what bridges people think he burnt on his way out? Unless you're soft and concieted you should have no issue with how he bowed out.

Which exit do you want, the 2013, one where he got the sooks and paraded in an Auckland Blues jersey and left mid contract. Or this years one where he leaked stories to his media mates and painted the club in a bad light. Two very undignified and uncalled for messy exits, plenty of bridges got burnt, some I suspect are still burning

A player like him, Smith or Tevaga allows a different dimension to a team's bench. He can play 10-20 mins at hooker if needed, so teams don't need to carry a hooker replacement, ie Mybe, and have a more dynamic player instead. My thoughts are that middle forwards will play fewer minutes and rotate more frequently this year
As previously mentioned I dont think well keep both hookers 2022

Yeah having a guy like that at hooker that allows you to carry 4 forwards is a big advantage especially if you’ve got a big pack like we do with the new rules.

'Life's not all about money': Benji Marshall opens up on future
By Zachary Gates

Legendary playmaker Benji Marshall has spoken for the first time since knocking back a monster pay deal with Super League club Hull FC, declaring "life's not all about money". Hopes of Marshall's illustrious NRL career ending on a fairytale note at Wests Tigers were dashed when coach Michael Maguire in August told him he wouldn't be offered a contract for 2021.

And while the 2005 premiership hero was reportedly in talks to join the North Queensland Cowboys on a $150,000 contract, and later Hull on a blockbuster $722,000 deal, neither agreement eventuated. Marshall said he had opted to prioritise family over money. "Life's not all about money and when I thought about the pros and cons, the pros were just about the money," Marshall told Triple M. "If it was about the money I probably would've retired five years ago. "

Good luck Benji your not missed and its not about the $.
Culture is already looking better at WT without having a sook around the team.

When you think Wests Tigers, you think Benji Marshall and vice versa it’s as simple as that... and I don’t see that changing anytime soon

Yes he’s not the player he once was, but that doesn’t mean we should disrespect the greatest player in the clubs history whom had put this team on the map leading us to our first and only premiership, more so respect his decision to wanna play on and wish him all the best and cherish the memories he had once demonstrated at this team and give him the respect he deserves and allow him to do whatever he wishes as we owe him that at the very least wouldn’t you think, I don’t understand why everyone’s so bothered about him believing in himself that he can play another season, it has no barring on us whatsoever if he plays on somewhere else to try further his legacy that’s fine, for all he has done for this club we should support a club legends aspirations not put him down....

I’m not upset we didn’t re-sign benji, I personally think it was the correct decision in terms of this club moving forward however I do think he deserves to be respected and appreciated for the things he has done for this great club, and should be able to make whatever decision he thinks is right for himself and be supported by us fans

Think what you like its your choice, we all have our own thoughts, second time round one things why ask him to come back he never developed any players it was all about him.

I wished him all the best, he was a sook that's not being disrespectful just stating the facts on how he left.

I think you will find he has rubbed a lot of long term supporters the wrong way not only how he left this time but also the prior time as well. Maybe you don't recall history but he was one of the main instigators in having Sheens removed then the following season did not see out his contract and went to play rugby union.

**Herald Sun - 18/07/2013**

BENJI Marshall has walked out on the Wests Tigers _ but wants a return to the club in coming years.

Marshall posted a four minute video on the club's website today revealing why he made the contentious decision to quit.

"It's been a hard time for myself and my family but as you all know I have made my decision to move on from the club at the end of this year. It was probably the hardest decision I have had to make," Marshall said.

"I feel like I have done everything in the game at this club, including winning a premiership, representing my country, captaining my country, winning a Four Nations, winning a World Cup and winning the Golden Boot. Without (the fans) support, a lot of that couldn't have been achieved.

"I feel like I am the person I am today based upon what I have done at this club. At the end of the day, my decision was based on what was best for myself and my family. Not only that but what was best for the club also.

"I know some people won't be happy but some will be happy to see me go. That's life, rugby league is a game and the club is bigger than me.

"I will honour my words about not playing for another (NRL) club. There is no other NRL club for me to play for. The Tigers are my home and will always be my home.

"I have seen guys like Mark O'Neill leave, go to England and then come back to the club. I am hoping to do the same in some capacity after I retire, maybe be involved with the club. Hopefully get back into it somewhere."

Marshall said he was not angry at the club.

"There is no hard feeling between myself or the club," he said.

"A the end of they day they did what they thought they could in the (salary) cap to keep me but this decision goes far further beyond than money.

"If it was in the past I could have take more money to go elsewhere. I feel like I have given my life to the club. Eleven years is a long time. I will never forget the years I had here."

Well he did not play for another club but more than one, was given a lifeline to come back, Madge selected him also to play for NZ after 7 years being exiled.

Lastly 2005 was not all about Marshall there is no i in Team.
Agree Marshall will be remembered for being a great player for the Tigers but he will also now be remembered for being someone that wanted to play on too long as should have retired back in 2018.

Say what you like about him does not take away from the fact
he is the greatest player to have played for west’s tigers

Tedesco says hi

I'd take prime Benji 2005-2011 over Teddy now

May be the wrong spot.. but personally I believe the season went down hill after this game.. I was 10 drinks deep screaming at the TV and I thought we had it..

Few good things of this game, Shawn Blore Debuting and belting Nathan Brown and also Packer running over Matto.

Bad things other than us losing are, 2:50.. is that Josh Alioia letting RCG run straight through? Useless glad he’s gone.. secondly, Mitch Moses Kick and chase.. but honestly I loved it as a footy fan because YOU NEVER see the small kick over the head for yourself anymore.. not to mention Josh Alioa also standing there while he does it at 4:18.. atleast Douhie gets back..

Okay 5:20, Moses Mbye is absolutely useless as a captain..

Also Cheekam highlights in there too.. THAT but not Blore smashing Brown..

100% agree with this game being a turning point in our season. I kinda saw it coming, as leading up to this point we were playing an incredibly intense brand of football. Although it was great to see some awesome steel to our defense and attack, I also wondered how long the players bodies would hold up to this and after losing by narrow margins to Souths and panthers, this game was the last straw for them you could see (mentally at least)
The fell apart the next week and didn't really recover
