Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Much more confident in AD than Mbye when slotting goals. Mbye hits them well enough when kicking from the right of the posts but has no ability to kick from the left somehow.

![alt text](Stephen Crichton’s contract standoff costs Penrith a pretty penny
Many thought Stephen Crichton was crazy to walk away from a $500K handshake deal, but the move is about to pay off big time.

The NRL’s next millionaire could be made this week with the Penrith Panthers set to table a deal that will make Stephen Crichton rugby league’s richest centre.

Crichton will be offered a $10,000-a-game upgrade to his existing contract as part of a new deal that is expected to be worth $2.25 million over three years.

Hoping to end the contract saga that began with a revelation that “the next big thing” reneged on a $500,000 handshake deal, the Panthers confirmed that a revised contract had been finalised and would be put to Crichton as early as this week.

“It has been a bit of a process since the grand final but we are almost there,” Penrith coach Ivan Cleary (inset) said.

“It (managing the roster) has been a challenge for us after a successful year that came as a bit of a surprise, but we are confident that he won’t be going anywhere.”

It is understood the $2.25 million will include a $250,000 upgrade to his current contract which is set to expire at the end of this year.

The $750,000-a-year deal will leapfrog Crichton over Roosters powerhouse Joey Manu ($700,000) as the NRL’s highest-paid full-time centre in a stunning achievement for a 20-year-old who has played just 26 NRL games.

The Panthers are confident the new deal will be enough to fend off interest from a long line of rival clubs, led by the cashed-up Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs.

Chuck 800 on the table

And a 4 year deal

Or we could just stay away from him and get ourselves a backrower for the same money ....

Angus will stay at the rorters

Who else is available in the back row that's worth that sought of money?

Lots of them .....none available now

But BJ and Jet are going to make the best centre pairing since Meninga and Rodgers ...why replace them

Lol

Would love a great 2nd rower to rotate with LL and Blore though

And Crichton could be our fullback with Laurie five eight so money not wasted

Although he has proven himself as a fullback

I don't believe second row is a priority in the clubs eyes at the present time.

It should be .....you' have to question the club's motive's if it isn't

They are very impressed with Blore and expect him to have a breakout year in 21, there is also a belief that the club hurt Garners form in 2020.

Nothing against Garner ...but how many other club's sides would he make their Top 17

He isn't a starting backrower

The plan is that he won't be, I'm interested to see if there is an improvement in his form if he is moved back to play along side Brooks.

How many years do we give MCK ...Garner ....Seyfarth

Lets do a comparison Roosters : Flanagan from their last game until he signs with Dogs is 12 days from memory

They identify he isn't what they need and is gone

We have seen the MCK's ,Garner aren't what the club needs ...but they are still here 2-3 seasons later

I'm betting a bloke like Liddle wouldn't still be at the Roosters

We aren't thinking like the champions are ...and it blatantly shows

Madge and hartigan have let plenty of dead weight go and will continue to do so.

Took the Roosters 12 days is my point ....you work out they aren't keepers and flick them

Look at how quick Melbourne got rid of Brodie Croft

Sounds awful ...but thats what the top clubs do

Croft was at Melbourne for 4 years...:flushed:

When he finally was given his main role of replacing Cronk ....and failed ....gone ...true ??

He played 22 games the year Cronk left and 17 the next...

And thats all she wrote ..and now the Broncos want him gone .....

Pretty sure its the dragons are the known club looking to sign A.Crichton. Trying to replace Frizell.

The loophole is to look the article up in Reddit.

You are correct re the Dragons.

ROOSTERS NOT GREEDY – ONE CRICHTON IS ENOUGH

Contrary to some recent media reports, the Sydney Roosters were never in the race to sign Stephen Crichton with the NRL powerhouse banking on Billy Smith to become their next Latrell Mitchell.

Fighting his way back from the ACL injury that robbed him of his NRL chance last year, Smith has returned to full contact training and will be available for the Roosters’ season opener against the Sea Eagles on March 13.

The Roosters have however been talking to their own Crichton with the club set to offer backrower Angus a new deal.

Off-contract at the end of the year, Roosters coach Trent Robinson told Crichton he is part of the club’s future plan when the pair caught up to talk about a new deal.

The Roosters will have to fend off interest from the St George Illawarra with Dragons set to make a play.

This one also has a fair bit of info on current contract situations.

South Sydney superstar Latrell Mitchell is set to sign a two-year, $1.75 million extension to remain at the club until the end of 2023.

Mitchell, who joined the Rabbitohs from arch rivals Sydney Roosters last year, has agreed to a deal worth around $875,000 a season.

It comes as the Panthers look set to retain five-eighth Jarome Luai on a three-year, $2.2 million extension, while the manager of Eels winger Maika Sivo emailed clubs last week seeking expressions of interest for 2022.

Mitchell was set to earn in excess of $900,000 a year in 2022 and 2023, but his new deal is set to reflect last week’s NRL announcement, which saw the sport finalise a revised collective bargaining agreement with a six per cent reduction in the salary cap to deal with the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

Mitchell was in sublime touch in the weeks before he suffered a hamstring injury against Parramatta saw him miss the club’s finals campaign. Mitchell started the year off slowly but was beginning to justify the club’s faith in him to wear the No.1 jersey before he was struck down through injury.

The Rabbitohs paid around $600,000 for Mitchell in 2020, with the Roosters chipping in around $200,000 of his salary before he was released. The news is a huge boost for South Sydney ahead of what shapes as a crucial year for the club. Coach Wayne Bennett will finish up at the end of the year, while Adam Reynolds, Dane Gagai, Braidon Burns, Jaydn Su’A and Tevita Tatola are all off contract.

Like South Sydney, Penrith are also in the process of locking up their biggest stars. Centre Stephen Crichton has all but agreed to a three year extension. A similar deal awaits Luai, while the club is also in negotiations with Isaah Yeo.

Yeo and Nathan Cleary are the frontrunners to replace James Tamou as Penrith captain, with the Penrith lock set to be rewarded for his 2020 campaign with a significant increase in his extension with the club.

The Panthers are also considering signing Wests Tigers back Paul Momirovski in a deal which would potentially allow fullback Daine Laurie the opportunity to leave immediately and link up with the joint venture club.

Laurie has asked for a release from the final year of his deal with the Panthers but the club is adamant both he and Canterbury-bound Matt Burton will see out 2020 at Penrith. That could change, at least in the case of Laurie, if Penrith find a suitable replacement. Burton, a renowned five-eighth, is expected to start the year in the centres in place of Brent Naden.

It is exciting to know the WTs is well stocked with talented young players. It is a long time since we have been in such a fortunate position. Let's hope Talau, Kepaoa, Laurie (if with WTs), Fitzgibbon, Kei, Blore, Stefsno a d ahostof others tear it up.

But I thought Momirovski was our strike centre.

I like Momers but man we have a lot of centres. Joey, Roberts, Momers, Talau, Kei, Hoffman, Cini plus more in juniors. It would be sad to see Momirovski go but the deal makes sense.

He’s behind Jimmy, BJ and Tommy in the centres and we have absolutely no backup for fullback. It’s a big win for us if the deal goes through.

Who ranks him behind those besides you?

Having a slow night? Seems like you've joined the forum just to be a nuisance. Surely there's something on Netflix or YouTube to watch instead

Wait, so where do you rank momo in the depth chart ? I’d say he’d be 4 on the wing , number 4 at centre in the depth charts .
Wing - Nofa , AJ , talau , Momo . Swap with Talau if you want
Centre - Jet , BJ, Talau , Momo. Swap with Talau if you want

id like to know what AJ has done which has everyone in this forum so happy to rate him as our second best winger.

I dont have a problem with him but did people not see him miss 3 passes from benji in the rabbits game last year that wouldve been sure trys? He still has a long way to go.. personally id have momo or talau way above him

He's strong and fast, can score a try in the corner and runs the ball back well. Only issue was his hands but he's had his eyes fixed and that's something that can be taught at training. He's got massive potential imo, it also helps that Talau and Momers aren't really wingers either.

He just has something you like.

Does anyone really have a clue what our starting side will look like.At the moment it appears everyones guessing .I presume the Tigs will have spent a long time trying to improve the goalkicking, with Momo,Douihie,Madden,.Are there others ? This skill may determine who gets a run .It would be great if someone could give us an insight on improvements in all aspects of the side.

We need them to kill it don't we.

I thought the article on how much Latrell was and is getting paid was interesting. It's not like he gave up so much money to go to Souths. He got a good deal there.

I think with Aj we can all see potential.
Years gone,we would get guys like Thompson,Rankin,MWZ, etc. all can do a job but have a low ceiling.
AJ showed some flaws ,but they were things that can be ironed out. Raw athletic ability can’t be trained.
If he caught all those balls from Benji (all catchable bar one) he probably gets himself a hat trick that night. Imagine the excitement around here! ✌🏼

But I thought Momirovski was our strike centre.

He played centre for the Roosters when they won the comp,

He only played 2 games and was dropped in the game that counted.

>then he played centre for the Storm when they won the comp

PLayed 6 games.

Ray Cashmere, Matt Jobson, Shannon McDonnell and Ben Reynolds all played in a team that won the comp.

....maybe Penrith know something you don't...

The same guy who would be buying Momo if its true also purchased Josh Reynolds on $900K

He wasn't dropped, he was replacing an injured starter and scored a try in a semi final.

He wasnt dropped? He wasnt injured and he wasnt picked, what would you call it?

He played 6 games at the Storm because he was injured.
Same bloke that bought Reynolds just won the minor premiership.

With the team that Hook built

You can spin it whichever way you like, he's got two premiership rings.

No he doesn't

Here we go again

Only players in the 17 get a ring, Thurston gave his to Steve Price when the Bulldogs won because Price missed the game.

Na Cheese - You're wrong....
Club can order as many as they like - Souths ordered 30 odd.

Yeah, they can, the club pays for them after the 17 though. If I was momirovski's situation, I wouldn't feel like a premiership player unless I played in the game or had been heavily involved in the season. Was Ben Reynolds a premiership winning player for us?

Hang on... I didn't call anyone a premiership player.
And I don't disagree with you... Merely stating that the clubs get far more rings these days than the 17.

No Benny Reynolds wasn't, But all them trick plays had to be practiced against someone.
You think Ben didn't work as hard that year as Prince or Benji?
Those guys didn't win the premiership - But it's not won without them either.

Ask Joel Reddy if he ever won a first grade title... I can tell you his answer

Taking a total guess, but looking at the trainings recent training pictures, I reckon the guys in black are current 1st team and the guys in Orange are current 2nd team.

If so, from the pics the guys in black I can make out are:
Mybe - fullback (I think he's playing the ball in pic11)
AJ & ? (Nofa but cant see in pics) - wing
Roberts & BJ - centre
Brooks and Deouhi- half
Tamou & Musgrove & Jofa & Twal - props
Liddle - Hooker
LL & ? (Couldn't see Blore in pics) - 2nd row
One of the above- lock

Doueihi is shown goal kicking.

Orange players:
Momers, maddern, Mikaele, MCK, Tuki, Hoffman, Garner? (Pic 13), Simpkin, Talau, Seyfarth, Packer, ? (Pic 19 & 26)

I guess its a good thing that we as supporters are still guessing at who's in and who's not in our side .. means we have depth .. and depth means there is competition for spots .. competition for spots in your club is a good thing it makes everyone training to their highest level and will make sure that everyone busts a gut in both training and game time to make or hold their spot in the top side .. !!

Contentious positions will have to be 1, 5, 6, and 9 .. the rest are pretty settled for round 1. My guess for the team Rd1 will be:

1.
2. Nofa
3. BJ
4. JTJ
5.
6.
7. Brooks
8. Tamou
9. Liddle
10. Musgrove
11. Lucy
12. Blore
13. Ofahengaue

Players who will be in contention for starting positions round 1: Twal, Garner, Mbye, Momirovski, Simpkin, Talau, Kepaoa, Utoikamanu, Mikaele, Madden .. throw in Roberts-Davis and Fitzgibbon as bolters .. !!

Doueihi not available Rd1 - suspension

**Wests Tigers turn down release request from centre Paul Momirovski**

EXCLUSIVE – The Wests Tigers and Paul Momirovski are locked in a dispute that threatens to escalate after the centre had two official release requests turned down by the club.
Foxsports.com.au can reveal that the Tigers are refusing to let Momirovski leave despite informing him he would not be a first-choice centre at Concord.
The 24-year-old, who has 14 tries in 19 NRL games, has been training at five-eighth during the pre-season and has held three conversations with head coach Michael Maguire about being granted permission to leave.
Rival clubs are monitoring the situation closely, with Canterbury and Penrith keen on his services.
The Tigers, however, are digging their heels in, arguing that a roster with strong depth across the backline can only be beneficial for the club.
Momirovski did not play for the Tigers in 2020 as he headed to Melbourne as part of a loan deal involving Harry Grant.
He was encouraged to make the move to the Storm as his temporary departure would allow the Tigers to secure an NRL-standard hooker.
A hand injury curtailed his run in the Storm’s right centre spot but despite mutual interest in extending his stay at Melbourne, he went back to Concord to honour the last year of his contract.
Upon his return, the Tigers had signed James Roberts to partner Joey Leilua in the centres.
The Tigers also made a serious play for Josh Mansour before he signed for Souths a fortnight ago.
Momirovski’s release request is the third such demand from a different Tigers players in the last 18 months after Ryan Matterson and Josh Aloiai both asked to leave.
The difference for both those players is that they were walk-up starters for the Tigers being lured away by bigger deals.
Momirovski, meanwhile, is not guaranteed regular football in 2021 and wants to play every week in his preferred position.
Matterson joined Parramatta after skipping training and being put on a period of leave while Aloiai moved to Manly after frustrations in negotiations with the Tigers.

If true, I wonder which team it is that he wants to go to?
Can I ask where this story came from, as in which media outlet? Was it a Fox story? DT?

Edit: Fox I see that now.

It would be a very positive step as a club if he does want out, that we convince him to stay. Although if that does occur, I wouldn't expect any story out of Fox describing that. Maybe Read from smh, maybe.

We've got plenty of depth, don't really understand why they wouldn't let him go to get Laurie in return - unless that's not a guarantee, in which case fair enough no reason to let him go for no reason.

When we have a fully fit squad to choose from Momo doesn't make the 17, so if he doesn't want to be here move him on and replace him with somebody who does.

I'd rather get Laurie in if it's an option and add some genuine competition in a position that we're lacking depth in.
