Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I know this name has popped up in the past, but can we go all out for Schuster?

Surely not happy to witness Manly sign someone at the end of their career and start them.

If we get rid of Mbye by the end of the season, throw that money at him. He's such a gun.

Well generally i don't comment on other team selections but unless carrying an injury unsure why he was left out yesterday? Judging that performance why would he stick around long term?

Mbye is contracted with WT for 2022 season, so that throws your idea out the window.

How long have you been following the game to think that matters?

And rumours of moving him on have been going on for a while, taking captaincy and not including him in the leadership group is also further hints.

I have nothing against Mbye, and hope he goes well for us. Just saying his money would help land Schuster.

I wasn’t disagreeing with you I just stated a fact, that Mbye is contracted to WT next season.
I wish that we could have got rid of him this season, but I doubt that there would be many takers interested in him.
I’ve been following football for a very long time and I take the hit that contracts aren’t worth the paper they are written on, but you have to have a club willing to take him.

Sorry my response was perhaps too aggressive!

Yah you're right, hope he has a good season and shows he deserves a contract somewhere. I'm sure some team could make use of him, at a much lower price - but even then happy to move him on.

I have been critical of Mybe in past seasons but willing to give him the benefit of doubt with a new season starting now basically a clean slate.

Some positives might be
* Not captain can concentrate on own game
* Most fullbacks can transition to 5/8 more easily, because he rushes up so much, don's rate him a centre.
* From Nossa (QLD) will be looking at possibly joining a QLD team maybe the new franchise when expands, at 27 now can transition as an experienced player.
* Dodgy Knee last season let's hope now 100%

Anyway been given a start and a great utility player if playing well, don't agree with $950k per season he is on but those days are now gone with signing players, lesson learned.

Hope he plays well and adds depth to the Squad in 2021.

Not only are Manly signing our ex players they are making decisions like WT'S did.
Manly's desperate plight has been shown by the Sea Eagles signing Warriors hooker Karl Lawton immediately - despite the fact he is set to miss the majority of the season with an achilles injury.

The Warriors have given Lawton an immediate release and he has signed a two-year deal with Manly - but won't make his debut until he is over the injury which will be mid-season at best.

The Sea Eagles were thumped by the Roosters in their opening game of the season last night and used a makeshift hooker in Lachlan Croker.

So after that (and last year), it's as clear as day we need a left winger, right side second rower, and probably a number 7.

Hopefully Blore solves one of those problems but they were a problem last year and we still haven't fixed them despite all the new faces. I think we lowballed Johnstone because we were focused on JAC and got neither. Wish we had the other AJ on our wing.

Can we find a second rower somewhere? Surely there is someone we can find somewhere and hope a club will release them.

Joe Stimson
Niukore
Kaide Ellis

Otherwise look to superleague

We need nothing but a season for this group to get to know each other and get their combinations going.
If you want ready made solutions you need to get and follow teams which have settled squads with loads of seasons experience behind them.

The squad will need time to gel. Garner needs replacing and should not be part of that "getting to know you" routine. He has been the same defensively for the last 3 year.

Here's a suggestion.
Can the coach please take an objective look at Mbye.
He can start by comparing the attack of the team in the trial game compared to the disjointed Mbye fueled rubbish against Canberrra.
Mbye had one good season with the Bulldogs, but his assets were his explosive speed and elusiveness. Those assets are long gone. He has never displayed ball skills of an NRL standard for a player in the halves.
Mbye is now an average plodder that defences can ignore as he poses no threat creatively. His own defence is below average which makes him a target.
He needs to be exited from the first grade squad.
He shouldn't be on the bench. Give that spot to the Simpkins kiddie.

Well if we want to go off yesterdays game we only need two wingers, two centres, a 5/8, a halfback, and a second rower and then we might be competitive.
Canberra steamrolled us all over the ground due to being bigger, faster and stronger, in both NRL and NSW Cup. Our recruitment is still a way off delivering.

Sack Packer now and save any available resulting money to procure at least one or two urgently needed players.

They didn't steamroll us until we started kicking off out of the full, offloading 10 metres out, giving away unnecessary 5th tackle penalties.

Yesterday was less about size and strength, but more about discipline and IQ.

I thought he was the least of our worries yesterday, besides we already have the cash to buy just about anyone we want, don’t think too many of them are available though?

I think next week with Adam back things will be a lot smoother in attack that’s how they have trained all summer it would be great if we could get Jackson Hastings to put pressure on brooks

I hope Hartigan has his binoculars packed,we need at least 4 backs with speed and ability. As a Brooks fan, unless he gets his act together he should join Mbye, Joey l, Garner, and Packer in the player shredder,. Tuki to lock and Simpkin to hooker will improve our attack.

Forget Shuscter, Manly will never let him go.

This kid is stuck behind Lachlan Lam and Sam Walker at one of the best clubs in the business.

Throw everything at him. Packers money, Mybes money etc.

I don't know why everyone keeps raving about Canberra's size. They're physically no bigger than the WT and our forward pack outweighs theirs. They simply ran harder and wrestled better through the middle. Take out the silly mistakes and we were right in it.

The Garner penalty at the start of the second half combined with Tamou and Mikaele leaving Laurie isolated against James was the straw that broke our back. This comes back to being 'switched on' for 80 minutes and playing with that constant grit and determination Madge keeps talking about. I couldn't see us winning at the end of 80 as our attack was so flat and disorganised, but our defence looked ok bar a couple of key misses which changed the entire outcome. The real question I have is whether Garner can improve his defensive game because this has been a real problem of his since coming into FG. Can hit a hole and run a good line, can drive a player backwards when he uses his shoulder but all too often leads with the arms and comes up with misses. I thought Benji may have exacerbated that problem last year playing outside him, but Garner hasn't improved from what we saw yesterday.

Ronald Volkman.

The guy who killed us in the Camden trial.
