I was surprised Bulldogs offered Dylan Napa early for Matt Burton.

If I was a coach, I'd accept this deal.

I do see packer leaving if Panthers have a injury in their forward pack.

My good friend gets bulldogs intel. Apparently panthers wanted Napa as a swap for burton but with bulldogs paying the majority of his wages. Bulldogs said no, hoping all the noise in the media would force the panthers to succumb. They forgot Ivan has no morals or integrity and is king of hypocrisy. After Burton’s man of the match performance and with Napa doing nothing this year. The bulldogs had a change of heart and Ivan said no sorry we going to keep him.

Good money is on Burton staying at Panthers

He’s not going anywhere this year. But he could easily be a bulldog if they accepted the Napa swap early on.

J Reynolds MOTM in his debut super league match...could be a handy pick up

This is the exact reason why a Hastings signing doesn’t excite me.

Well that's a weak reason to be frank, already discussed, for two points:

#1 Man Of Steel has often been a very capable footballer - Hodgson, Pat Richards, Ellery Hanley, Gary Schofield, Sculthorpe, Andy Farrell, James Graham, Jamie Peacock etc.

#2 J Rey was MOM 1 match. Not yet the same as being best player in the entire comp a whole year.

I hear you but I don't think its a weak reason at all and i didn't say he wont be successful here, it just doesn't excite me and i am not as confident that a key role like a 7 will translate and be as successful.

However, if it was discussed did we consider the following to your examples, both Hodgson and Richards had already won a premiership in the NRL before going over there so i am not surprised the won the award. Hanley won the award 3 times before coming to Australia to play on the wing.

Schofield, sculthorpe, farrell and peacock while winners of the award and good footballers never played in the NRL and while we can speculate that they may have worked out, there is no evidence to say the would definitely work.

Sam Tomkins also won the award and came to the NRL however, that didn't work out to well for the warriors.

So while there has been discussions i don't think its conclusive that just because you win the Man of Steel in the UK that your going to be a success in the NRL, hence the reason why i'm not sure Hastings will be a step up for us.

IMO you could argue that should Brooks go to the UK, he may very well win a Man of Steel.

Nobody said Hastings would be a success in NRL because of MoS. You made a comment that because J Rey could be MotM in his first game, that is "the exact reason" why a Hastings signing doesn't excite you.

I simply pointed out that many MoS winners are very successful footballers by any measure (so it's not an indictment against the player), and winning MoTM in one game isn't really comparable to being the season's best player.

Also
George Williams
Elliott Whitehead
Sam Burgess and the other Burgeii
Gareth Widdop
Gareth Ellis
John Bateman
Adrian Morley
Josh Hodgson

Not a single MoS winner amongst them.

Adrian Vowles, Rangi Chase

What of them?

Connor Watson came off the bench and almost single handedly sparked thier attack. They looked dangerous when he came on.

Connor Watson is under-rated, he's a good player and gotten better over the past couple of years.

He was excellent and definitely a spark. He gave a nice pass for the try, but it was an extreme rarity for him. He is a massive hog. I can't stand guys who don't pass or aren't team players.

Now wouldn’t that be spicey. He wants to play 5/8 and he can’t do that at panthers

I think we have the solution for lock at the club already.... Stefano. He's shown he can hit a hole, he's shown he's got a big motor and he's shown he's got good passing.... he could end up at 13 eventually once he's got more games under his belt I reckon.

I'd be inclined to run Simpkins at 13 over Stefano. He's a good middle defender and at 19 already has the best offload in the club.

That would be hilarious but won’t happen

Alot if fans calling for a ball playing lock. Imo we can't go down that way until we have two props that can carry the running work load. The teams with dynamic locks have a huge engine room. At this stage we need the 3rd big to make meters a smaller lock won't help us atm.

I think our current team would benefit greatly from a scheming, fleet footed lock that is also a strong defender. A guy who could share some of the playmaking role to add variety and deception to bolster our point of attack. I thought Watson did a great job for the knights, but a brandon Smith type would be perfect for us. I think Maguire is looking at hastings for this role - not to replace Brooks but to add to the team.

Hastings would be a bit small for a lock in the current Tigers team imo. Although admittedly, I haven't seen his defense in recent years.
I'd be looking at Laclan Lewis for that role. Hastings would still be a good get though for spine backup.

I actually think Lachlan Lewis would be very good as a lock. Good ball player, can tackle and can mix it up with his kicking. I know there is a fair bit of dislike for this kid on this forum, but to me, he could be an excellent pick up if available at the right price.

All opinions here respected however imo Lewis is rubbish full stop. He's barely able to make the Dogs 17.

Dogs supporters and their last 2 coaches dont rate him at all and if you cant make a weak outfit like them i fail to see how he would help us

More perplexed than concerned, Madge had one of his “infamous” 1 v 1 honesty chats with him this week, let’s see how he responds.

Looks like the honesty chat worked with Brooksey

That says more about the Dogs than Lewis - he is a great defender, has a reasonable kicking game and mostly a decent pass.

At 24 with some help and a decent mentor could be a good purchase, because he wouldn't be expensive.

I know most on here think he is rubbish (letting emotion getting the better of them) BUT in all probability these are the same people that want to sign Hastings who is not as good. Just my opinion.

Soo seems once again WTs will have a fair war chest to play with next year, Twitter estimates going as high as $2mil.
Obviously some this will be put towards retention of existing talent but with the likelihood that the following are moved on or downgraded;
- Packer
- Mbye
- BJ
- CheeKam
- Walters
Who will we be targeting? Or do we think youth and promotion from within will continue to prevail?

I was never a fan of CheeKam, too slow for a back and had no impact at 2nd row. This year he isn't smiling all the time and has been much better, especially in defence. I would keep him as a backup utility or backup 2nd rower, I don't think he would cost a lot.

If we are replacing like for like, I'd go:

Packer > Josh McGuire
Mbye > Jackson Hastings
BJ > Tommy Talau to slot in (Tesi Niu, Sebastian Kris or Brent Naden)
CheeKam > Dale Finucane or Angus Crichton
Walters > Upgrade a junior

From there, we need to continue our raids on the best junior talent as we have done this year.

Agree with a fair bit here, never been a fan a McGuire, brings a bit to the field but appears to be a bit of a locker room cancer.
Aside from that upgrading Chee Kam to Crichton would be pretty special.
