Yes it is. I consider season 2021 as one of the two remaining seasons, given it's only 4 rounds old.

So some of the people on this group are willing to offer a 2 year contract to a player who has a chronic back injury? No garuntee he will last 2 years. Shit defender btw and After the 2 years then what? We gotta find a new halfback and new combinations? It’s just creating more problems for our club. Decisions like this are the reason we are still rebuilding. If you wanna buy a new halfback, it should be a gun halfback who we can build around for years to come. not a player that’s at the end of there career or another rookie. Much prefer brooks over reynolds. I mean Souths won’t offer there halfback from the last decade longer than one year for god sake.

What gun, in their prime halfbacks are available? They rarely leave the clubs they're at. Brooks is in no way shape or form a better halfback than Reynolds.

Also pretty sure the whole 'chronic back injury' thing got debunked as Souths making stuff up.

That’s my point! Much rather stick with brooks, give him time with combinations and the same coach and we will see the best of him.

Reynolds would cost us over and a big risk for 2 years in term of his chronic injury. After the 2 years we need another half and gotta wait till the combinations settle again. It’s just the same thing again, the reason why we can’t be consistent is the amount of changes in combinations and coaches in the last decade. It just turns into another rebuild. Brooks makes 25 tackles a game! I garuntee you reynolds misses close to 10 a game, he won’t get the same cover in our team.

Why would the club lie about that about a player? It hasn’t been debunked at all, if anything it looks suss why they don’t want him for longer than a year.

They would make it up to cover up the fact their salary cap is in a mess and that's why they can't offer him a longer deal... been widely reported at this point. Reports are that they have offered him 2 years at this point - he's rejected it now.

If you think brooks will evolve anymore as a player then I'm not sure what to tell you. He can play well but he's not the kind of player we need anymore, we need a leader/organiser and that's just not him.

I'd rather 2 years of Reynolds then signing another half compared to 2 years of Brooks being a spud and having to replace him soon enough anyway.

Like I said the 2nd year is in the clubs option at 700k a year. Doesn’t seem like they are struggling to fit him in. Besides they can just as easily cut gagai and keep him if they wanted. A halfback is more important than a winger.

I think brooks will definitely get better as the year goes on! He needs stability which is one thing we’ve never given him, 4 coaches and a different spine almost every year plus the lack of big forwards have hampered him. We have been his biggest curse.

As for reynolds we are risking a player who may have a chronic injury and is 31 this year.
Why risk changing combinations for 2 years and then having to buy a new halfback and need to wait till the combinations build again. Unless your telling me you believe reynolds is the key to winning a premiership in the next 2 years there’s no point in getting him. He doesn’t fix anything, he just causes more problems in the long run.

Top 4 teams have had almost the same combinations for years! This is the main reason why we have been unsuccessful. Once again reynolds does nothing but cause more problems for us in the long run. I don’t want to rebuild again, I want to build on the foundation we’ve set up with spine we have atm and buying specialist players for certain positions to turn us into a top 8 team! Only one on the market worth close to what we would have to pay reynolds would be the cheese. I would keep Simpkin and possibly let liddle go if we could get the cheese. We also need a gun Lock. I meter eating forward and another winger. Would rather focus on these areas and keep the spine untouched.

We need more than an aging Reynolds on big money to create another cap problem - it will be another case of ridiculous expectation on the highest paid player and our club being tagged as a club to go to collect your pay cheque. He brings a better kicking game and weight of expectation to break a losing cycle without all the rep players that make it possible. Surely we have learned that players who come to clubs struggling at the backend of their career don't come to achieve success they come for the money.

I think it's a potentially good signing but I'm not sold on it. He is a great little player but I'm not sure if he is who we need.

You’re missing my point . Brooks is 26 , so would have been planned out to 2025 at the earliest as the half . So now , if we get Reynolds , that timeline moves forward , as I don’t think anyone seriously thinks he will last beyond a 2 yr contract .
So then getting/ developing the future half of our team , is really , really important .
Madden will be 24 around then , so maybe it’s him ? But you can’t be so short sighted . If we go for Reynolds , then that means we have to have our halfback of the future in the club at the same time .

We have had many combinations and players at our club but have not made finals since
Players like Marshall Farah Brown Aloiai Matterson Moses Taupau Lodge not to mention our current crop
I don't think you can blame the office for the performances on the field
These guys get paid to do a job
The only common denominator in all of this is Luke Brooks
I would give him 6 more weeks
If he doesn't improve alot, then we must look elsewhere
