Hynes asked Kevvy "If I join Broncos where do you see me in 5 years and what type of footballer can you help me become?" Kevvy apparently replied "Um ahhh I dunno tbh".

Doesn't surprise me. I've never rated Kevvy as a coach. Anyone could have coached that Maroons team to success which is why he looks so out of his depth at the Broncos

Apparently he came across as real nuff that offered no insight into the clubs direction and how Hynes could help them get there.

That’s strange because Adam Reynolds has the opposite view.

I honestly doubt Broncos sent in only Kev to butter up AR. They would have sent in the big guns and Wayne would also have had a lot to do with it behind the scenes.

When was the last time we got a Storm player who worked out well for us? I mean apart from Harry because we didn’t actually buy him.

Why stop at Storm?

I am going to go out on a limb here
Shoot me down if you feel the need

Wally Lewis was never a fast player yet he was always able to destroy teams with his footy smarts
Players were always hanging back to see what he would do
As a NSW supporter it was frustrating to watch as he would always carve up the opposition with his plays and his slow speed
It is not always about speed but I agree it does help
We need smart footy players on our team
Players who can think quick
Hynes had 14 try assists in 522 minutes and was second in the comp for Try assists and yet he played far less minutes then most others on that list
He is able to find space even though he is not that fast
People can knock him all they like but you can not put his success on his team mates
He has slotted in well in to the Storm in the absence of some of its best players

I will ask this question
If you had to pick a player in current form in your team from this list, who would it be
James Roberts, Bj, Talau, Kepoa, Cini, Madden, Simpkins, Liddle, Hynes

IMO Hynes has played better then all of these players so far this year
Now I am not stating that some of our players won't get better but we have all been waiting for ten years to make the finals

Hynes just has a knack of knowing where to be at the right time

I am not saying to throw the cheque book at him, but we should be making inquiries and if the price is right then we should put in an offer

If by some chance that Laurie does move into the Halves with Brooks as some think it is inevitable, then who is our fullback

Bang Bang ...did I get you ??

1 Hynes
2 Nofo
3 Douihei
4 New recruit
5 New recruit
6 Laurie
7 Brooks / Hastings

This is what we're thinking?

You’re spot on there bigsiro. If Hynes came in 15 varieties I would have included all the teams.

Hynes is good but where would we play him? We have a fullback, we have a 5/8 and he's not a halfback.... he'd be an excellent 14 but he's not leaving storm to be a utility.

Wherever he wants . At this stage he's a more complete footballer than our7, 6, and 1.
Last week he carried his team on his back.
Seen any of ours do that lately?

'Wherever he wants' is not good business - unless we move on Brooks he doesn't really have a spot here and can understand why the club wouldn't be after him.

We need wingers and centres and second rowers a lot more than another spine player. He's good but I don't see him playing as well outside of the Melbourne system either.

He has a spot at 1 in my team - You say we have a FB, we can always do with a FB that is a lot better and Hynes eats Laurie at the moment. Laurie has much to learn and I can see another Brooks scenario coming up, 3 or 4 seasons we'll still be saying, "Oh! he will be a lot better next year." Laurie needs to go back to Reggies like Simpkin and learn his trade - e.g. organise the team line, learn to tackle, improve an almost non existent kicking game, chime into the backline and be part of it. When he can do all that he will be as good as Nico Hynes.

As far as playing outside the Melbourne system - he can do it himself (not like a Blair that had one job to do) but how did players like Kimmorley, Widdup and GI go after they left the Storm. Hynes makes his own breaks, sets up plays for others etc. he does not totally rely on other players. This was no more in evidence than last weekend.

The funny thing is we haven’t even been linked to hynes

This is true
The only reason we were linked to Isaako and TPJ is because our men were seen at the airport
If they weren't spotted then not much would have been said
And there is no proof that these were the players we went to see
For all we know it could have been Milford

I would imagine we are looking at Hynes
This doesn't mean we will automatically put an offer in
It will come down to a position that needs filling and if he can do that and $

I would say every team outside the top 4 look at just about every player that comes on the market and assess if they would fit the team and be an upgrade on their current roster

No one knows where the dominoes will fall

I was not that keen on Hynes, but reported desire for a 3 year 1 million contract makes that an easy decision if you can get him for that price. He can play anywhere in the backline and would be handy even as 14 at that price.

He can be our next Moses Mbye

What exactly does that cryptic comment mean?

Probably your most astute post CT. On the money.

I think he is worth 1.5 over 3 years at FB with a revue for his third year.

I admire your enthusiasm Demps.

Laurie
Fitzgibbon
Kepaoa
Talau
Nofoaluma
Doueihi
Brooks

I've put Nofoaluma in because he has a four year deal. I do expect him to be challenged next year by at least one of our junior wingers and be playing NSW Cup. We also have Dillon learning his trade as our back up fullback.

Because we have a fullback and halves... don't know why everyone's going on and on about him. Good player, not necessary for us.

So let's sign Laurie as our fullback and then dump him to reserves for a few years - he'll be out the door before you can blink and that's an awful business decision. He'll learn nothing more in reserve, needs to keep playing first grade and building combinations with his spine. He is playing well and will continue to improve and develop.

Hynes just doesn't make sense for us UNLESS he plays 6 and Doueihi stays permanently at centre. That's the only scenario I see us chasing him

I agree, he’s pretty good in a really good team. I don’t think he’s better than Laurie.

Disagree all you like, but I don’t think the club is looking to do anything about their current spine.

Same here

Laurie is good without being spectacular. IMO he’s been our most consistent player, I can’t recall him having a shocker but I haven’t seen a game from him (maybe the Dragons game the exception) where I have been wow’d by his talents

I put him in the safe fullback category atm.
