Talks between Bulldogs & Tigers with DWZ advanced quickly over the weekend, strong chance he's playing for us against Eels in round 14.
Money being the biggest issue for 2022, dogs expected to chip in around the $300-$350k mark, Tigers offering this season & 22/23

Thanks @THE_POM , are we looking at anyone else??

Brisbane have closed the door on Issako (For now), don't think they expected the backlash from the well documented trip, Every chance Walters will still be released to free up another roster spot.
James Roberts has all but sealed his option being activated for 2022. Leilua not looking likely he'll be here, was briefly discussed that they'll let the option expire & then re-negotiate terms with BJ on a lesser deal but have to see if he's keen on that.
Discussion with re-signing Luciano have begun & everyone involved is confident something will be confirmed prior to November 1st

Thanks Pom, hope we’re not paying JTJ any more money, apart from finishing a couple of tries on the weekend, what has he done?! Needs to prove he actually wants to be a footy player. I hope we hold off for another month.

His option for 2022 is only 50k more than this year.

Good value if he can stay on the pitch

I believe he has KPIs that automatically trigger the option

Hard to see how it would be triggered based on output to date. Must be easily achievable ones??

I am not sure what they are.

Come to training
Don’t leave at HT
Say full credit to the boys after wins

Don't get arrested

On 350k a year he's a fine signing. The talented youngsters in the backline we have are a few years yet (Saukuru, Compton) and guys like Hoffman and especially Kei, are not ready atm. Cini deserves another shot imo but hasn't achieved 1/20 of what DWZ has.

By '23 DWZ has either recaptured good form or a benchie and our young blokes have kicked on.

He's not a bad player and 100 miles ahead of Jennings, Nick Meaney, Tuala, Toa who start for NRL teams on not that much less. He's Momorovski level atm and they'd be roughly the same price.

Just another good, solid player to have around the team. The rebuild continues well.

Agree ..... he’ll do a job for us on the wing .... something our occupants have struggled to do all season.
Also a cheap fullback backup ..... he’s a type of player that ... if signed by the Storm system would flourish his career ..... so I suppose it’s up to Tigers system. And on Madge to call it.
Nope I have no problem with this approach. I might also add that we would not have issues with our wing shortage if we didn’t let Go of Corey and Momo ... that was plain stupid.

Any truth in the rumour his recent injury was due to punching on with a handy back rower?

That would still leave us paying a good $500k for DWZ next year wouldn't it? Seems too much. Not against the signing, he's a solid enough winger but wouldn't pay a cent more than $400k a season, ideally $350k a season

Yep this would be atrocious value.

He's a 350-400k player at the moment. If he's lucky. If we offer him a $1 million over 2.5 years that's about right. And if the Dogs chip in 500k and we chip in 500k then it could be good option. No way in hell we should pay anything more than 350-400k a season for someone who's not better than what we currently have and will block the development of our youngsters.

He's currently worse than Nof. We would still have the worst wingers in the comp if we signed him. He offers nothing we want or need.

As a relatively cheap, versatile backup option he'd be ok. Front load his contract seeing we've got so much room and have the Dogs paying practically all of his salary next season.

Remember the Panthers were happy for him to walk. Now the Dogs are happy for him to walk early too. Other clubs who were struggling at the time didn't want a bar of him. They punted him to sign more talented players.

We should not settle for the scraps from one of the worst wooden spoon teams in recent memory, and help them rebuild in the process.

Bro Garrick is kicking at a higher percentage for the year, what planet do you live on?

I didn't base all Douiehi's kicking on one game?

Garrick slots them consistently from the sideline watch Manly play

For what its worth Garrick's season and career kicking percentage is higher than Doueihi's. Better luck next time champ

Thanks Pom, hope we’re not paying JTJ any more money, apart from finishing a couple of tries on the weekend, what has he done?! Needs to prove he actually wants to be a footy player. I hope we hold off for another month.

His option for 2022 is only 50k more than this year.

But he's still done nothing to warrant an extension at this stage. Friday was his first decent game, and even then he wasn't targeted in defence once all game. Did he even make a tackle?

Even if he's cheap he takes up a squad position that isn't going to the likes of Ogden. We already have Hoffman and Kei next season taking up space next season, we can't fill out the squad with a whole heap of sub par players.

100% BB - surely we should be giving the likes of these priority and spending the dollars in other key positions?!

It’s like we just want to make the same mistakes over and over. Average, mid to late 20s players and forget everyone else.

Why do we even bother with a youth push?

100% BB - why do we even bother with a youth strategy that seems to be working? Targets of average mid to late 20s that nobody else want.

There's been a massive focus on youth and junior development but you can't fill your whole squad with them, you need some experienced first graders.

DWZ is 186cm (6'1"), 97kg and 25 years old (source https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dallin_Watene-Zelezniak)

The year he captained NZ at fullback he was a star.

I can see why Madge would be looking for a mix of experience and youth in the back line. DWZ on the wing would also be a good target for kicks and strong enough to do the dirty hit ups on early tackles.

There is some upside here but as with JTJ, Laurie, Luch, Joey, Stefano, Joe O, Blore and Tuki he is a gamble. None of them were at their peak when we bought them, either untested potential or not playing to the level they had previously (but not age related).

It is a cheaper and less risky way to build a team than paying huge overs for players at their peak, there could be a cliff tomorrow.

100% BB - why do we even bother with a youth strategy that seems to be working? Targets of average mid to late 20s that nobody else want.

There's been a massive focus on youth and junior development but you can't fill your whole squad with them, you need some experienced first graders.

Same mistakes over and over. We embarked on a proper youth strategy a couple of years ago which seems to be working and now we are bringing in average players who really aren’t worth the prices they are asking and being discarded by others for a reason, mind you. That’s not how youth get experience in first grade.

Talks between Bulldogs & Tigers with DWZ advanced quickly over the weekend, strong chance he's playing for us against Eels in round 14.
Money being the biggest issue for 2022, dogs expected to chip in around the $300-$350k mark, Tigers offering this season & 22/23

100%, extending him now when nobody else would take him just proves we are a soft club top down.
