Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

So sharks get hynes and good chance of finucane, dogs get ado Carr and Burton and we're looking at Dwz. 🙄
We must be the basket case of basket cases

George Burgess is looking at an NRL return - not after big $$. He feels incredible after successful hip surgery. Informal discussion with Dragons.

got enough front rowers, even if Packer heads for the exits. a backrower and a 13 is what we need in terms of forwards.

Canterbury have tried to buy a team and are finding out the hard way that that's not how it works. We learnt that lesson a few years ago with Cleary. Addo-Carr and Burton are fine acquisitions but I much prefer the way we are going about recruitment.

Buzz reporting the same, Hynes to Cronulla.

Why is Fitzgibbon waiting until next season ?
Why isn’t he at the Sharpies now ?

He promised Roosters he'd see out his contract with this year's finals tilt.

Also Uncle Nick almost certainly making it worth his while.

Very true. It's exciting to have all these names coming to your team, but they've signed them all at their peak value. Cotric is another supposedly on 600k, and lasted about 3-4 games in the centres. Corey Allan as well. Both were origin players ($$$), not even close this year.

Just because Ivan made some poor recruitment decisions doesn't mean you shouldn't target excellent, established players. Burton and Addo-Carr are excellent signings. They're getting rid of Dallin because they have signed players who are an upgrade on him. The fact Dallin would walk right into our team is an indictment of our backline recruitment.

Spot on.
Josh and Burton are great buys and would walk into our team. So would hynes.
We should be after finucane big time and if we miss out, questions should be asked. Especially if we are looking at dwz

Good luck to nicho Hynes getting those dollars but this time next year people will be saying what a waste of money besides Cronk how many players come out of that system and play well elsewhere

cronk and ingis and they are future immortals
that is about it

Tohu Harris
Israel Folau
Tino
Kimmorley
Widdop
Maloney
Proctor
Blake Green

It does happen.

Do you mean come into and out of the Storm system, or debut in the Storm system? Nicho Hynes is a Manly junior via centy coast and Mackay.

Agreed, signings like Cotric, Allan, Foran, DWZ, Flanagan - as we know it takes years to clear that type of poor investment.

Have Bulldogs signed anyone from another club the past 3-4 years who has actually gone on to be a mainstay of their side? Dylan Napa perhaps, even though his form is down? The most obvious one I can think of is JMK, which tells you everything, and before that Brett Morris.

How long before the next Bulldogs fire-sale?

I'm sure that the Salary Cap has some elasticity but it can't be long before it snaps....

I agree with you and would love both of them, but they also paid massive overs to get them both over there, along with blokes like Cotric, DWZ, Allan etc. what this leads to is a very unbalanced squad that is filled with minimum wage rookies and nuffies that is effectively gambling on your season.

you need your young players to be playing well above their value in order to win the premiership, unless you're one of the outliers i.e Melbourne & Easts. look at Penrith, the majority of their squad is probably on 30% less salary then what they should be. get the feeling that our own youngsters will provide similar value for us in the coming years, and our recruitment policy will be justified.

Cotric was signed for way too much but I’m not sure that’s the case for JAC and Burton. From reports what they signed for is easily what they’re worth (in the case of Burton it now appears a complete bargain).

I favour the approach of signing quality young talent and targeting top line players at their peak. I’m aware we will probably have to pay more than most clubs but down the line it will be worth it. I’m not saying we overpay for players well past their peak like we did with Reynolds and Packer, but overpaying to a degree for players like a Munster I’d be ok with, as it’s the only way we’d ever land a player like him. Sometimes you need that one great signing to turn around the clubs fortunes. Personally I think signing DWZ now would be a huge mistake and massive risk, even heavily subsidised at the amount the Pom discussed.

haha you don't think the 1mill contract for Mitchell, the offers to Arrow, Brimson and JAC are ambitious? Perhaps too ambitious 😂

Did forget Maloney he was pretty solid
I would say success stories
kimmorley won his comp with storm so would consider he never had the same success afterwards

Maloney
cronk

Tough on Kimmorley, he played Origin for 10 years after leaving Storm. Also he debuted at Newcastle then Mariners before Storm.

The reason you stick solid on valuations for mid tier players is to allow you to have room to go after the top tier talent when it becomes available. we just aren't that attractive at the moment.
