Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Thoughts on Nick Meaney signing?....wing/center/fullback

Lacks killer instinct, lacks physical presence. I looked at him closely at Newcastle when he was first raised as a potential option, ultimately done by Dogs, and he was OK then in debut.

Since then I'm quite unimpressed and I'd say no.

Sharks have told Woods he is not wanted for 2022 and will release him early if he can find another club...what a fall from grace for Sharon...he rubbished the WT on his way out, was let loose by the Dogs and failed to set the world on fire at the Sharks...was on about $800k at the Dogs, will be lucky to get a $400k contract, that's only if any club is interested in him...Oh yeah, please don't come home to finish your career either.

I'd take him back esp. if Sharks helped out a little, but my main concern is would he block the pathway of an emerging forward? We have a couple of good young'uns lined up now like Stefano, Tuki, Kelma... maybe even Seyfarth is getting there; Amone is signed and I assume we'll try to extend Mikaele.

So sharks get hynes and good chance of finucane, dogs get ado Carr and Burton and we're looking at Dwz. ?
We must be the basket case of basket cases

Canterbury have tried to buy a team and are finding out the hard way that that's not how it works. We learnt that lesson a few years ago with Cleary. Addo-Carr and Burton are fine acquisitions but I much prefer the way we are going about recruitment.

Just because Ivan made some poor recruitment decisions doesn't mean you shouldn't target excellent, established players. Burton and Addo-Carr are excellent signings. They're getting rid of Dallin because they have signed players who are an upgrade on him. The fact Dallin would walk right into our team is an indictment of our backline recruitment.

Spot on.
Josh and Burton are great buys and would walk into our team. So would hynes.
We should be after finucane big time and if we miss out, questions should be asked. Especially if we are looking at dwz

We have been missing out for a couple of years now I have asked the question many times still no answer

I know, it is depressing, IMHO Madge is far from an attraction, in fact I have seen stories on coaches players least like to play under, Madge features highly, also heard some players say it on FOX

I've heard a lot of players say the exact opposite.

Where are they then Russ, where are these good players you speak of, where are the players Madge reckons keep ringing him.
I will tell you where they are, at another club after using us to jack up there price, Madge is no good player magnet

I'd bring Sharon home. He's a bazillion times better than Tamou (imo).

It would not surprise me if he puts the feelers out to us. I feel like he knows he messed up. Whether we want him though? ?‍♂️ Could depend on what Mikaele does.

At the right price he's a good forward imo. I know he acted like a fool when he left but we could use him for sure.

150K take it or leave it

I was reading that Souffs had signed up a lot of there junior talent and found this comment in the story it a wonder that Latrell & Co haven't taken offence to it

They are graduating through our ‘Black Rabbits’ elite development program and we’re really excited to see them progress as they get the opportunity to train with the full squad on a regular basis.

Not a good choice of words

Why? The rabbit logo on their jersey is black…

Does every little sentence need to be “race checked” in case someone is imaginative enough to twist that sentence into something it’s not?

In this day and age yes you need to be careful what and how you say things, if a player from an opposition team referred to a Souffs indigenous player as a black rabbit and it came through the microphone what repercussion do you think there would be

They are referring to the logo...not the player. We all need to stop this rubbish and fast, but to your point....maybe we should change it to the "White Rabbits" program? Would that be better?

While we're at it, let's get the Black Panthers to change their name to something else too. How far do you want to go with all this woke crap? #nopoliticsinsport

I have to agree with you re woke garbage that exists today, especially over trivial bs such as the "black rabbit"program....their logo is black, however many years ago it was white, the club must have prefered to change the COLOUR themselves,I put colour in bold because ever since I was young and learning,BLACK was a colour same as white, yellow, blue etc...
Even within my industry, hospitality, its getting ridiculous,we used to have an ALE on tap called BLACK ale,it was the same as OLD beer but had a name change because of its heavy darkness, all innocent of course and millions spent on marketing the popular product, however the goodies and anti racists decided it was offensive and now it has to be called DARK ale...
How the world is changing and in my opinion for the worse,we have made much headway over many, many years in many, many areas, however this new woke breed of people are taking us further backwards than we were at first..
If your an educated person,a good human being and you know right from wrong, calling a program a Black Rabbit program shouldnt worry you in the least, after all they chose that colour for their logo and I dont see how it has been offensive at all,I even think it looks good on their jumper...but thats just me,and I could be completely in the wrong with what I have just written and sorry if I have offended anyone....Also sorry for taking up time in the rumours section...

You don't judge recruitment on players that you miss.

Why not?
You rate everything else to be a success on both ends of the equation, why not recruitment? If we are failing to sign players , we are doing something wrong.

You judge it on the players you do recruit as that is the only thing that is 100% in your control. Missing out on a player in not 100% in any clubs control.

So in regards to teams like Melbourne, souths, etc we are just as successful in our recruiting as we signed Hastings, Gillard??

We don't measure the latrell miss, ado Carr and any others we missed out on?

Seems like an excuse for mediocrity mate

You do realise that both those players, knocked us back and signed for less money with other clubs.

Here's the cruncher - the Tigers pulled their offer to each player.

That would indicate that we did not miss out on Latrine and JAC at all.

However you keep saying we did if it makes you feel better and it enhances your argument.

Let’s make this clear.

Latrell has said he didn’t want to come here because he wanted to craft into his fullback position, not hold the team together and look for him to make the big decision during the game..

Although I do agree the grub didn’t want to come here regardless, which is fine.. I never wanted him.

Jai Arrow has said:

"No disrespect to the Tigers, but the proud history of Souths and obviously Wayne Bennett and the coaching staff here is second-to-none,"

He chose south’s because he had been in the origin camp multiple times with Bennet and Dimitri.

As for Addo-Carr, most likely came down to money and paying $600K a year for what 4 years? For a winger that more or less has 2 years of his playing form before he declines.. I’d prefer to bring a new kid in for less..

We know what we need and I’m glad we’re not paying overs for duds in a few years.. ITS THE FUTURE !

Just a sidelight point:

Arrow has said and I quote - "The Tigers, I would rather go to live in Syria."

One of the best misses of in the West Tigers history - it is appropriate that he is now a "Souffs Scumbag."

Where is this quote?

It was a while ago - can't remember, probably around the time he came on the market - half way through last year maybe.

He said it and it was reported, I didn't make it up.

Russ is right, he said it

Screw that rubbish.

The guy was club captain and tried to take all our good players to another club.

The absolute last player id let back in the club.

He’s a grub who thought he was bigger than the club. Think of the Hooper interview where he threw the club under the bus. Around that time he was also a regular on NRL 360. He never once defended the club or spoke on behalf of the club. He was looking out for himself. To do all that as captain, made him one of the most selfish players I can ever remember.

No one in this forum would ever throw the club under the bus...

We’re supporters. Even if we do, we don’t walk away. Players on the other hand

He left under Cleary's watch. What's your opinion of Cleary, one of our greats? Ever talked Cleary up yourself?

I’m failing to see how that’s relevant? If he was loyal to the club, wouldn’t have mattered who the coach was.

Can't be bothered explaining...

No, please do. Don’t back down.

The Jason Taylor years were a nightmare from which it was going to be very difficult to recover. I had a conversation with Siro at the time who told me how frustrated Curtis was at being lied to all the time by Taylor. The players hated Taylor. Woods was the glue in a side when certain players were threatening mutiny. When the club shafted Taylor, who by the way was brought in to do a certain job, and signed Cleary, it really hit the fan. Woodsy wanted to stay. He was club captain and wanted to be a Tiger for life. He loved the Tigers and he thought they loved him. When Cleary offered a his old mate, a convicted criminal 200k a season more than the club captain, to play the same position, it kind of rubbed people the wrong way, particularly when Woods had only ever done his best for the club. He asked if he could be upgraded to the same money as the crim and was told to look elsewhere if he wanted more money. It's common knowledge now that we wasted 800,000k for 3 seasons when we could have kept, at the time, the best front rower in the game.

Well that shows the type of person you are.

Ex team members that, one that was the captain of this great club talking absolute trash about us is okay?

The fact that these members left when the times got “tough”, when in reality the club had offered everyone a contract and only Brooks signed..

In my opinion, you could blame the club, but at the same time you could also put the blame on the players and coach at the time because they never made the top 8.

Nup...theres a difference between not being loyal to the club that developed and invested in you vs orchestrating a mass exit of the clubs best 4 players and then being dishonest about it ,with the sole outcome being the club gets absolutely smashed for several years

No way should we be signing that big Dud to help the sharks potentially sign a player like finucane or keep a player like pele long term.

In today's world it's unfortunate that it has come to this
I agree with you 100%
But others wouldn't
There shouldn't be a back lash for using the work Black when depicting a group of footballers some of who may be dark skinned themselves
Or an individual or group of people who may be native to our land or others for that matter
And speaking of the word matter
Who came up with the words "Black lives matter"
It seems ok to use the term "black" in this case, although it depicts the colour of one's skin
I have been called "a white @%$/"
It did not bother me
But that came from the mother or two children that broke into my car
And I caught them
So that was the name I was given

Sure there are some nasty people out there that abuse people because of colour or race
Those people are usually un educated
But we don't all have a hidden motive

Sorry for getting off track

Let's sign the cheese
He is better value then Finucane and cheese has more years in him

agree try for the cheese over finucane if we can

Isaac Moses used Woods to get Teddy and Mitchell better deal, backfired when des didn't want Moses at the dogs.
Woods was poorly advised in hindsight he would have been a better keep than Signing Packer

It's funny how people who go Moses and other players, call them dogs etc now support Woods coming back to the club.

If the above is true, why so much hate against Woods?
IMHO, Woods was always >>>>Packer.

Absolutely correct!

Just ugly rumours from ill informed people.
