We need at least 1 winger, that’s if Lee’s lovechild is locked in. I think Laurie is doing a fine job at the back but he needs support from 2 solid wingers to improve our kick return metres. Every team is doing better than us in this part of our game.

No they're not. This might be your perception but the stats don't agree.

For Kick return metres, 'Lee's love child' is averaging 34.6m only slightly behind To'o on 35.7m. Behind him are Teddy, Walsh, RTS, Saab, Coates, Hynes, Rapana, Alex Johntson etc.

In run metres he's also averaging over 150m a game.

As you'd expect, Daine is ahead of Nofo in kick return metres (most fullbacks are as they return the ball more) but is behind Nofo in run metres.

Statistically, DWZ is way ahead of all our wingers and our fullback. Our kick return metres aren't our biggest problem.

how do you explain this?

Doubt if anyone can explain it.

You have to be able to read it first.

Mikaele

Wait... Mikaele is going?

Bunty Afo’a another name being floated around **IF** Mikaele goes elsewhere

Don’t stress just yet.

Why not go for both?

Because we have enough invested in middle forwards for next year with Ofahengaue, Twal, Tamou, Utoikamanu, Musgrove, Simpkins and Mikaele/Seyfarth (if we re-sign them).

Not for both grades we don’t, I don’t think you can never have enough good players?

You would think both Mikaele & Seyfarth will be signed.

Isaako is a massively overrated footballer. I would be in no hurry to sign him, effort seems a foreign concept to him

Screw that rubbish.

The guy was club captain and tried to take all our good players to another club.

The absolute last player id let back in the club.

He’s a grub who thought he was bigger than the club. Think of the Hooper interview where he threw the club under the bus. Around that time he was also a regular on NRL 360. He never once defended the club or spoke on behalf of the club. He was looking out for himself. To do all that as captain, made him one of the most selfish players I can ever remember.

No one in this forum would ever throw the club under the bus...

We’re supporters. Even if we do, we don’t walk away. Players on the other hand

He left under Cleary's watch. What's your opinion of Cleary, one of our greats? Ever talked Cleary up yourself?

I’m failing to see how that’s relevant? If he was loyal to the club, wouldn’t have mattered who the coach was.

Can't be bothered explaining...

No, please do. Don’t back down.

The Jason Taylor years were a nightmare from which it was going to be very difficult to recover. I had a conversation with Siro at the time who told me how frustrated Curtis was at being lied to all the time by Taylor. The players hated Taylor. Woods was the glue in a side when certain players were threatening mutiny. When the club shafted Taylor, who by the way was brought in to do a certain job, and signed Cleary, it really hit the fan. Woodsy wanted to stay. He was club captain and wanted to be a Tiger for life. He loved the Tigers and he thought they loved him. When Cleary offered a his old mate, a convicted criminal 200k a season more than the club captain, to play the same position, it kind of rubbed people the wrong way, particularly when Woods had only ever done his best for the club. He asked if he could be upgraded to the same money as the crim and was told to look elsewhere if he wanted more money. It's common knowledge now that we wasted 800,000k for 3 seasons when we could have kept, at the time, ***the best front rower in the game.***

The rest of your post may be correct, but there was never a time that Woods was the best front rower in the game.

2015 Dally M prop of the year, runner up to JT player of the year.

So Luke Brooks is/was the best Half in the game?

Alright, 2015 and 2016, most metres average by any forward, 40 tackles per game in SOO

2016, Sam Burgess and JWH existed, but I guess you would rather Aaron Woods?

I'll simplify my original point just for you... Woods was poorly treated by Ivan and the club and I don't blame him for leaving or even expressing his disappointment. At the time he was a starting front rower for the Kangaroos and considered by many as the best front rower at that time. That rating is, of course, only an opinion and open to debate. I don't think we should resign him.

In what way did Cleary treat him poorly? Club put a price on him and he wanted more. Club was right at the time and it was proven right by his time at DOgs and Sharks..

Yep, you are right, they were right, Russell Packer was way more valuable to the club than Aaron Woods.

Woods left before Packer signed.

He left before Packer started, not before he agreed to terms.

Riiiiiiiiiiiight. So the club signed Packer for $800K before Woods left and that would work under the cap....how?

And who is telling Woods how much Packer got in his contract? The club, Packer?

Its a simple story you are over complicating. The club valued Woods at a number much less than Woods wanted and the club was right. Woods could get that money at Dogs and we know how that worked out.

Please think about it. If you agree to terms, you don't get paid from that instant, you get paid when you start training with the club. Addo Carr isn't getting paid by the Dogs until next season, even though he agreed to terms months ago. And yes, Woods went to the Dogs for more money but the WT paid even more for Russell Packer, and we know how that worked out.

He would be paid from 1 November, not when started training. Your premise is ridiculous. Woods had the deal on the table for months, if Woods said yes and didnt leave, in your fantasy the Tigers would have a $800K cap problem. No way they agreed to Packer with Woods in the roster.

Are you now trying to tell me that Russell Packer was the only player Cleary signed, that Mbye and Reynolds came for free?

Reynolds signed before Packer

Good luck to Reynolds.

Not to chime in mate , but I distinctly remember Woods touring the dogs facility with Teddy on the sly , with a goal to deliver the big prize in teddy , and to a lesser extent Moses. The whole thing started through Klemmer who was gone less than year later himself .
Cleary was signed what , Early May ? The timeline defeats your argument . Woods was worth 800k to us . And no one else . The dogs paid him that because Teddy was worth 1.5mil to everyone , and he was asking for 1.2mil. It was Teddy who bailed at the last minute , basically getting everyone from Hasler to Klemmer looking for a new job . He basically ruined 2 clubs in 1 negotiation process . It was quite a feat .

>***I don't know the timeline on negotiations*** but I do know that Woods knew Packer was coming before he signed with the Dogs. ***I don't know how much influence that had on his decision*** but he was certainly unhappy about it. .

You dont know the timeline, you dont know the influence on the the decision......but apparently you DO know for a fact....." *He asked if he could be upgraded to the same money as the crim*".

Makes as much sense as the rest of your story.
Where did I say that. You've put it in quotation marks, but I never said that. Are you trying to twist this to suit your own argument? I'll say this, I got my info from Aaron Woods mother, where did you get yours from, the Daily Telegraph? Keep trying as hard as you can,you poor unfortunate blow hard, you have no real idea but you're pretending you do.

Woods is just the scapegoat for the real pain that was losing Teddy because no one could argue that it was best decision that Teddy made.

Ah ..... no sorry . That’s just not true . Woods gets all the hate because he was directly asked , as club captain mind you , several times where his heart was at and his attitude was “it is what it is “ . I even remember someone interviewing him basically calling him out on his lack of leadership . And referencing that . Our real issue began when Robbie was put offside , as he was the glue that held the playing group together . Not because he was liked by all , but they definitely feared him , and respected him .
Woods showed zero leadership , and if anything was actively pushing the whole big 4 to jump ship to the Dessy Dogs . He was the personification of all that was wrong with our club at the time , similar to what’s going on at the Broncos right now .
Clearly Mitchell’s uncle had been pumping the tyres , and had too much control . And Woods I’m sure sees , the error of his way . He went from someone who could have been held in the same breath as Blocker , and Skando , but now will be a foot note on a time when we let the fox in the hen house .

Woods was a rep player as was Teddy at a club in complete disarray. He earned the right to be approached by other clubs and tour their facilities just like every other player does from all clubs when they are approached and are up for contract. The club made all the errors when trying to re/ sign those two after years of poor management. Handing him the club captain after the club shafted Farah(former club captain) while contracted to the club didn't inspire loyalty - if anything quite the opposite. The club needed a wake up call in the way it operated - and Teddy leaving was it.
Losing Woods was nothing compared to losing Teddy yet he is held to some higher standard for choosing to leave.
The whole attack Woods stuff happens because there is some thought that he may have regreted his decision to leave. No one would be stupid enough to suggest the same with Teddy who couldn't get to the Roosters quick enough.

The selfishness of Tedesco never rates a mention. The loss of arguably our best fullback, Papenhuyzen, whilst he toyed with our club was a disgrace.

It rates a mention, I mention it as often as possible. Personally I'm not that fussed about how Aaron Woods left, I'm dirty on how Tedesco left because he flirted with a whole bunch of clubs before joining the Roosters. He did it more than once. His friend-zoning of Tigers cost the signature of Paps, as you say.

Tedesco reportedly backstabbed Bulldogs as much as he did Tigers, and before that Raiders.

And of all the teams in the comp to join the Roosters!

I have the same disrespect for Cooper Cronk, who could have joined a non-stacked side and truly made a name for himself by uplifting a lesser roster, but instead joined an absolutely stacked side, complete with salary sombrero and a job-for-life in Sydney for him and his TV personality wife. I can understand why he made that choice, but I have no respect for it.

And people say i have a chip on my shoulder ......

I never quit the forum over it

I don't remember quitting the Forum ......I remember taking a break as two family members had cancer and both passed ......

All the best Happy. That's all I can say. I'm still coming to terms with it myself.

Sorry to hear that Happy. A neurosurgeon once told me there are lots of boxes of tissues in my consulting room and not much good news. My son's mother has a glioblastoma which has grown significantly in the last week. Radiation therapy next week is just to ease the pain. It's very sad for her and our sons.

I don't always agree with you Paws but I feel for you. All the best. Sincerely, all the very best.

There was a Tedesco-related thing when you blew up and disappeared. But if I have it wrong, I genuinely apologise.

Things are not always going to come to fruition in every negotiation. If the Pom says the Tigers and Dogs are talking about DWZ, I believe him. You don’t?

Well if things aren't always going to come to fruition, why fret about them before they do?

Also - who cares if they are talking about DWZ? We have no idea of the context with which DWZ was mentioned, it could be just a chat. It could be part of a potential a swap deal. It could be Tigers want a cheap experienced winger in 2021. It could be Madge thinks he's a very capable footballer being badly utilised at Bulldogs.

None of that makes it "a stupid decision" - in fact, doing your homework and having many conversations with many clubs/managers about many players as possible is good management. Better to know where you stand in the recruitment field than be chasing your tail and chasing the leads of other clubs.

Now what I know for a fact, straight from Adam Hartigan's mouth, is Tigers have a depth chart (all clubs do) and they are continually looking at their depth and available players. Scott Woodward comes to them with his analysis tool and they talk about roster deficiencies and potential recruitment options.

So for example if they think they lack depth in the backline, they look at what the deficit is and how they might fix that. They consider the archetype player they want, e.g. a "Tommy Turbo type" or a "Taumalolo type", to describe the attributes of the footballer they'd want to fix a deficit.

I don't know what they are thinking right now. It may be they feel they lack an experienced back, because the reality is we have very little experience in the backline beyond Nofo, Joey and Jet. If of those are injured, the fallbacks are AJ (out for season, 10 matches), Talau (24 matches), Cini (2), Kei (0), Hoffman (1), Kiah Cooper (0) - that's about 40 FG games experience combined. Tom Mikaele has more experience than that alone. It's not unreasonable to be on the lookout for an experienced back.

Cool but you didn’t answer the question.

No I don't believe Pom, I believe the paper where they quoted the Bulldogs official saying Tigers rang up about DWZ and that's as far as it has gone.

And that being public knowledge, I went on to say - what of it? What makes it stupid to talk about a player?

He’s a grub who thought he was bigger than the club. Think of the Hooper interview where he threw the club under the bus. Around that time he was also a regular on NRL 360.

***You've put it in quotation marks, but I never said that.*** Are you trying to twist this to suit your own argument? I'll say this, I got my info from Aaron Woods mother, where did you get yours from, the Daily Telegraph? Keep trying as hard as you can,you poor unfortunate blow hard, you have no real idea but you're pretending you do.

Tigerballs, Im not the one pretending to know anything. You are the one pretending you know all. All I'm doing is pointing out that your story is completely improbable if not totally impossible based on the timeline (Woods left before Packer was signed and was the first of the Big Three to leave) and totally impossible based on the constraints of the salary cap (Tigers had over $3.2M in offers on the table for Woods, Teddy, Moses & Brooks, there is no way they can sign a prop for $800K,,,,and Woods was the first to bail). None of it is possible.......but a lovely old lady who loves her son, told you so,,,,,,there you go.

By the way Tigerballs, you seem to have a lot of trouble keeping your story straight, which makes it a little harder to believe. One minute you know for a fact the timeline and you know for a **fact** that he left because club wouldnt match what they paid for "the Crim", the next you dont know the timeline and arent aware of the negotiations. Maybe you need to give Mrs Woods a call for the good oil. One minute you say something, the next day you deny it. Its hard to keep track of the twists and turns in your story.

The reason I put " He asked if he could be upgraded to the same money as the crim" in quotation marks, is that it is a ***quotation.*** I am quoting what you said, verbatim, actually a copy and paste. It kinda puts a massive hole in the believability of your story that the club screwed Woods because they would match what they were paying "the crim" if you cant even remember saying it. I would have thought that is a pretty key component of the conversation and not something that would be deniable.

I have a question, did you hear that from Ms Woods before Packer came over, or did you her say that in hindsight after packer came over.

Mate, I can't really remember exactly to be honest but the gist is WT were a basket case and just about every player was unhappy, with either the admin or each other. If you're not happy at work, you look for another job.

THAT is a believable story and lines up with all the info....

It's funny how people who go Moses and other players, call them dogs etc now support Woods coming back to the club.

Do you need a Bex..?

Nah mate, Im good, and Im sure my posts are coming across more agro than I mean. Im not attempting to *argue* with Tigerballs, I am merely pointing out that what he is saying does not line up with every available fact.

In response TB has thrown a few personal jabs that dont relate to what Im saying and the post Im responding to here is saying I am intentionally lying and misquoting him in order to "suit my own argument" because I am a "poor unfortuante blowhard" "pretending" to have an idea. Worth a response I would have thought and again, no personal attack on TB, havent called him a name and merely provide facts to help him out.

There was a Tedesco-related thing when you blew up and disappeared. But if I have it wrong, I genuinely apologise.
