But do we want to be winners or the nice club

It's not about being "nice". It's about recruiting players of good character who will sacrifice for the greater good.
Melbourne are the template.
They recruit players who are willing to do a job for the team. The no dickhead policy creates unity and a sense of team. It creates a winning club.

Mickey Mouse covid laws please. He’s not a criminal. I’d sign him ASAP. Not everyone believes the media and government Covid propaganda people should respect that. Don’t we have any freedoms anymore?

Is that what you think this is about?
Do you think it might be about a player deliberately breaking a law, putting his club and the competition in jeopardy?
Could it be about reckless, selfish, repeated infractions by the same player?
This is not the political thread or the anti vaxer thread or the doomsday prepper thread.

How dare a bloke have some people over his house lock him up. Don’t believe everything you see in the media

Was the rule part of his employment? Was the rule in place so that his whole industry wouldnt be shut down?

If you believe that. Step in his shoes try view the world with eyes that think Covid is rubbish.

No one is under any obligation to see the world through those eyes.

I'm all for respectful debate and mutual understanding of subjective issues. The problem is when people try to subjectively argue objective things. Anyone else who thinks covid is rubbish can literally teach the rest of us nothing on the topic. The rules are there because of objective facts, I have no more sympathy for him than a drink driver.

In purely football terms I'd take him. Unfortunately his actions put lives at risk, whether he can see that or not. Therefore he can go sit on a cactus.

No one is forcing him to play RL for a living. I'll ask again, was it a rule of his employment? Was the rule there to prevent his industry shutting down and therefore jeopardising the pay of all players?

Have you ever broken a law mate or have dirty secret ? I’ll ask you who are you to judge or cast stones

You’re actually trying to defend stupidity aren’t you?

I’m defending rights and hypocrisy. You keep warm cuddled with the media lies that make you feel safe and judge others because you think you are so perfect at this present moment.

Paul Vaughn is exercising his rights wonderfully and freely without any impedement. I hope he enjoyed his BBQ. The Dragons are exercising their right to expect employees to adhere to the rule of employment. Freedom....FREEDOM!!!!!

Everyone understands that having a BBQ with your mates isnt the crime of the century. Everyone with half a brain also understands how much of a privilege it is to get paid hundreds of thousands to play footy whilst many other peoples businesses are closed and going broke and how fragile that privilege is because one moron could bring it all down and a sport and business responsible for 10's of millions and thousands of jobs could be stopped tomorrow, just like many other businesses.

Agree but it’s the government fault small business is bleeding not Paul Vaughan. Government are making all these laws.

I agree on that point, the drags axed him because of his contract and are also scum. This does not justify his actions and honestly mate that point didn't really come across at all in your other posts.

We get told what the rules are. Everyone must abide by them. People cannot just pick and choose what suits them. Vaughan is an imbecile who just doesn't get it. Brain-dead. I bet he would be second guessing his decision now though.
On saying that I would take a player of his ability at our club in a heartbeat but selfish, dumb humans aren't really what our club needs more of to be successful.

Yep. My friend's mum died of COVID. Real funny bbq.

I wish we had of kept Elijah Taylor even for depth. He used to make his tackles lead the line speed he could ball play and had heart. All the qualities we are lacking he was a guy who could punch out 40-50 tackles.

Sorry mate but you are presenting a pretty stupid argument TBH. It's not too much different than morons who say "screw the law, nobody can make me wear a seatbelt in the car" and these same morons who think they are rebelling against the system of oppression get thrown through the windscreen and into a gum tree when they have an accident.
Not everyone likes rules and agrees with them, but if you want to ignore them then shut up when you cop your whack and your consequences. It's that simple.

Then those morons will try to sue the council for poor roads or planting a tree to close to the road……. Idiots

Any legal eagle out there that can comment on the legality of what st George have done.

It will come out in the wash. If there is nothing in his contract about abiding by the club or NRL rules I would expect him to appeal. Wouldnt hold your breath, and if he was able to successful appeal what would taht mean for all other players? I cant imagine that would be the case.

I would expect that when COVID broke and they brokered a deal with the players association about the comp continuiing you would have to expect taht the players all agreed to meet the bubble requirements.

It actually doesnt seem that complicated to me.

How dare a bloke have some people over his house lock him up. Don’t believe everything you see in the media

He’s admitted it.

“From Fox NRL: ‘Stupid, unexplainable, irresponsible’: Dumped Vaughan’s grovelling apology”

Whether we like it or not, rules are rules and I am surprised you would risk such a huge salary to break them?

It’s just so hypocritical with de belin still prancing around all the other wife beaters and other players that have done much worse. But because the media tells us we have to hate in this bloke everyone does does his wife and kids really deserve to cop all these media pressure now it’s sickening

Government are making all these laws.

ahem....cough. What rule did the Government implement that resulted in him being sacked? The Government law resulted in him getting fine $1K.

The NRL & St GIlly rule resulted in him getting sacked. The NRL & St Gilly didnt have to bring in those laws, they could have not had those laws and Paul Vaughn and all his mates would be home on Jobkeeper.

Gyms. Cafe, events and all the business that cannot trade at the moment are bleeding and if you believe what the media are saying lock down is going to be longer. Also have little government support now

That makes what Vaughn did all the more irresponsible and stupid...,no?

Was the rule part of his employment? Was the rule in place so that his whole industry wouldnt be shut down?

If you believe that. Step in his shoes try view the world with eyes that think Covid is rubbish.

I think he's trying to personify it...

Sigh... why would anyone want to enter the world of fantasy?

We have freedoms others can only dream of but we can't enjoy them until we've controlled the pandemic that's killed over 4 million people to date. Like it or not, the people abusing the rules are the ones causing the lockdowns to extend.

Wear a mask, get a vaccine, social distance and stay at home when required - it's not that hard. The quicker the naysayers realise this needs to be done the quicker we'll be done.

Not sure if I would be real comfortable with any one of those guys locking my scrum.

Vaughn is an idiot despite what people do or don’t think about these rules they are the same for everyone, NRL player or not. He feels he’s more privileged than the rest of greater Sydney he got exactly what he deserved IMO,he could have put the whole competition in jeopardy. I’m all for having good players here and I’m happy to give players a second chance but this isn’t his first rodeo with a covid breach. Even on minimum wage I’d tell him to get stuffed, but that’s just my opinion.

Okay what about the rest of the team that were at his house.

Yes, a total meathead.

The only way you'd remotely consider signing him is with an iron-clad, one strike exit clause. Surely he can't be stupid enough to breach three times. But then fake names, hiding under the bed, lying to police...
