The Bulldogs are considering medically retiring Greg Eastwood after the Kiwi international forward underwent surgery for an irregular heartbeat last week.
The club is desperately trying to free up money in the salary cap to sign a halfback and question marks over Eastwood’s future see his career in doubt. The 30-year-old’s body has caused him problems in recent seasons - even before the heart problems a chronic knee injury saw him play just 33 games in the last two seasons. The Bulldogs’ new coach Dean Pay has decided to move halfback Moses Mbye to fullback next season, leaving him short of a number seven for the new season.
Eastwood will be on around $800,000 next season but if he is medically retired, he will get his money - but not out of the salary cap. That $800,000 will give the Bulldogs plenty of ammunition to find a halves partner for new signing Kieran Foran.

So being fat and hopeless is now a legitimate reason to be medically retired?
The way Moses was carrying on when he wanted out of WT we could have retired him due to Toxic Shock Syndrome.
@ said:Merrin is a useless fat overrated softy, never did anything for the dragons but was always talked up in the press, has had a couple of decent hit ups at panthers but not many - pass!
I would chase Murdock Masilla - he was awesome in the World Cup (always had so much potential early on).

I'd be surprised if he plays 10 games. Heir to the honourable Tigers role of past it pro signed to keep the rehab guys busy so recently vacated by Matt "good club man" Ballin.

I was calling for the Wests Tigers to bring back BMM throughout the world cup but alas, I believe he has gone to the Titans. (happy to be corrected but that's what I heard) He is nothing like the player who turned out for us, has become an absolute beast who may well come back to trample us.

There was talk of BMM to Titans but then there was talk that his ESL side were refusing to release him.

He would of been the ideal 30th signing for us

Have you been spending time with Rangi Chase again
@ said:I think you'll find Grant is on a fair bit more than 300k. Deals like these that put us so close to the cap. But we had no say in it as extension was in his favour. I think Ivan may have mentioned he's not in our top 17 and he's free to take up any other options if they arise. Would highly doubt we'd pay a cent if he goes. Sue would be a better fit for our bench as he provides the impact to contrast the work ethic of Matulino, Packer, Twal and Eisenhuth.

He is still no better than when we had him imo - still full of errors, uncontrolled aggression and gives away penalties. One pass for a try does not make him a beast - unless it is a fairy tale that is.
@ said:I think BMM suffered from Sheens coaching the forwards to play soft without confidence, which he seemed to do. Look how ordinary players like Heino, Gibbs and Fifita took off at cronulla.
