So what I don’t understand is why would you negotiate, what I’m essence is a settlement of $390K, to move on Mybe unless you had plans on who your going to spend the money saved on?
With a recent history of missing out on targets, we must be confident in getting some decent players here otherwise some of the guys we currently have are getting a decent pay rise.

Say Mbyes $850 in total is available next year. It will cost us $390 on the cap but wait. With Mikalee and Seyfarth potential resignings and Twal for instance off contract end of 22. Say no one is worth that money on the market in 22 and get to the end of the year and still have a bit of extra to spend. Do the same again.

Both players are outstanding but there is no chance Lomax is superior to Manu. It’s not even close.

We’ll we’ve done it a few years now.
Eventually we’ll have all our long term players on less than 1 mil between them and about 8 mil to spend on a marquee roster!

Totally disagree with you on this. Manu looks incredible in a team missing 6 or so first graders. Manu is part of the reason they are still competitive for top 4.

Id like Lomax, but he isnt setting the world on fire in a team barely doing better than us and that we beat twice this year.

I can only think that the Panthers had done something similar. Front load the extensions on the players they want to keep so that they aren’t hampered by the 600k or so for both that they agreed to chuck in 2 two seasons.

Mo Fotuiaka rejected Titans contact offer, apparently expecting way more!

Titans looking at Manu, and have serious holes in the team such as a half and hooker in order to compete for the premiership which I assume they understand so can’t put too much into Mo with both Fifita and Tino there

I’d throw 650-750 k at him, him and Stefano would be the best prop combination in a decade from now easily - worst we do is make Titans pay more and take them out of the race for a Manu or any other signings at the very least

Just did some slight research, he’s still only 21 as a prop and still dominating…. even in the origin arena

Imagine him when his body grows at its peak, next to Stefano who’s also 21

I can only think that the Panthers had done something similar. Front load the extensions on the players they want to keep so that they aren’t hampered by the 600k or so for both that they agreed to chuck in 2 two seasons.

It is a great idea and can work for about 1 season. After that the cap rules bite.

The other problem with continually front loading (which is OBVIOUSLY much better than back loading) is say someone like Stef is on 300K for 3 years. We front load his contract in year 1 by $199K, cool her gets $400K. Say you do it again in year 2, another $400K. In year 3, when he is negotiating to stay or go, he only gets paid $100K, which does not necessarily buy loyalty.

Gee I hope you're right. Maybe the pandemic has got to me but I don't see any light at the end of the tunnel. I don't see a recruitment plan and I don't think there's that much quality coming through the lower ranks. At this stage 2022 doesn't look to be any better than 2021 and that will be another year of missing finals football. Maybe I need a Prozac.

I’ll answer both within the same post. Your focusing on just one player. There are 30 players and they are all off contract at different stages.
Essentially there are different type of players and therefore different types of recruitment strategies.

Consider the ‘stacked’ team the roosters had in 2013. SBW was promised 1 mil a season for two years. He himself knowing that it will only be a short term deal.
And more recently the 1 mil or so that the roosters recruited Cooper Cronk for. He was happy with a two year deal before he retired and man did it pay off. Over this time you have long term deals for all these nobody juniors (at the time) in Collins, Tupinoua, and long term stalwarts like Hargreaves / Friend etc. if they end up getting a little bit more when they are struggling and a little less when they are challenging does it matter? Plus if they are on a little less at the time of resigning and they are struggling it just makes it that much easier for the club to move on and pick up a potential new recruit to start shuffling their money around again.

I had a collection of around 30 quality bottles it’s now down to 5. The juniors are the best we have had since the last crop of Tedesco, brooks, Moses, Brown etc. Teddy is rare but we have more quality than we have had for a long time.
