Finally some news on roster change, even if it is costing us $390k to have a player to wear other's colours

So what I don’t understand is why would you negotiate, what I’m essence is a settlement of $390K, to move on Mybe unless you had plans on who your going to spend the money saved on?
With a recent history of missing out on targets, we must be confident in getting some decent players here otherwise some of the guys we currently have are getting a decent pay rise.

I've got no answers and similarly disconsolate with the roster movement as I am with being in this lockdown for months.

Don't know whether to laugh or cry that our WT will be paying $390k for thin air.

I’m ok with it if it means we’re upgrading to somebody better for the difference but I’m concerned we can’t attract them

It’s a cycle.
Pay now save later.
Say Mbyes $850 in total is available next year. It will cost us $390 on the cap but wait. With Mikalee and Seyfarth potential resignings and Twal for instance off contract end of 22. You could arrange extensions for the above players this season. Front load part of their deal into this year all to the Sum of $390k and you’ve saved yourself his full wage next year. All legit.
Say no one is worth that money on the market in 22 and get to the end of the year and still have a bit of extra to spend. Do the same again.
Year by year our available cap spend for a year will be greater than 100% in addition year by year our core group gets more experienced and the playing talent within the Tigers improves making it more attractive to join the squad thus making signing the right marquee possible by having the attraction and the money.

Somebody get this guy in the recruitment team!
Thanks for the detailed explanation. Hopefully the strategy bears fruit.

Moses Mbye gone for 2022.
Agreement between Tigers & Dragons has been reached. The club will paying 390k for next season.

390k a good deal from wests tigers end well done club

How can you congratulate the club for wasting $400k from its 2022 cap…if I wasted $400,000😱f my company’s money I wouldn’t be getting pats on the back, I’d be in the Centrelink line

It all depends on if we can use the money to build a better roster.

Panthers are paying for Waqa Blake and RCG to play for Parra.

Lomax Manu - one looks amazing in a terrible side, one looks very good in a great side. Lomax will also cost 2/3 as much

Both players are outstanding but there is no chance Lomax is superior to Manu. It’s not even close.

Its what we do every year.

We’ll we’ve done it a few years now.
Eventually we’ll have all our long term players on less than 1 mil between them and about 8 mil to spend on a marquee roster!
Roosters ain’t seen nothing!

Totally disagree with you on this. Manu looks incredible in a team missing 6 or so first graders. Manu is part of the reason they are still competitive for top 4.

Id like Lomax, but he isnt setting the world on fire in a team barely doing better than us and that we beat twice this year.

Harley Smith-Shields is playing tonight - Does anyone know if we should be watching him closely tonight or not?

He is too short for a winger

I can only think that the Panthers had done something similar. Front load the extensions on the players they want to keep so that they aren’t hampered by the 600k or so for both that they agreed to chuck in 2 two seasons.

He's more a centre than a winger, seems normal height.

Cool plan. Cant work. Ever year you have to have 30 contracted players and you must spend 90% of your cap.

Mo Fotuiaka rejected Titans contact offer, apparently expecting way more!

Titans looking at Manu, and have serious holes in the team such as a half and hooker in order to compete for the premiership which I assume they understand so can’t put too much into Mo with both Fifita and Tino there

I’d throw 650-750 k at him, him and Stefano would be the best prop combination in a decade from now easily - worst we do is make Titans pay more and take them out of the race for a Manu or any other signings at the very least

Just did some slight research, he’s still only 21 as a prop and still dominating…. even in the origin arena

Imagine him when his body grows at its peak, next to Stefano who’s also 21

Our props would be sorted for the next 12-13 years

Any chance you can make it happen teddy?

I've got a few paper bags spare, can probably rustle up a sombrero if pushed. I'm also rubbish at golf, can set up a ninetieth hole gofundme if needed.

Technically. But there are loop holes.
You need 30 contract by July, August this year but you don’t need the necessary amount through the year.
And there is nothing that what I mentioned doesn’t mean we haven’t met that requirement each year.

It is a great idea and can work for about 1 season. After that the cap rules bite.

The other problem with continually front loading (which is OBVIOUSLY much better than back loading) is say someone like Stef is on 300K for 3 years. We front load his contract in year 1 by $199K, cool her gets $400K. Say you do it again in year 2, another $400K. In year 3, when he is negotiating to stay or go, he only gets paid $100K, which does not necessarily buy loyalty.

There is a method to what we are doing which is great. The Tigers look to be building a team with no high priced players. It’s probably why Brooks is rumoured to be on the outer. We are not a finals team so depth and multiple players on mid level contracts will enable youth to grow and when we are competitive marquee players will be the difference. That’s how I see it at the moment.

Gee I hope you're right. Maybe the pandemic has got to me but I don't see any light at the end of the tunnel. I don't see a recruitment plan and I don't think there's that much quality coming through the lower ranks. At this stage 2022 doesn't look to be any better than 2021 and that will be another year of missing finals football. Maybe I need a Prozac.
