this is from the Townsville Bulletin. was reported we'd signed him a while back.

'Another Kirwan Bears star gets snapped up by a NRL club'

From the footy fields of Bowen to the bright lights of the NRL, this schoolboys rugby league sensation is making huge strides in his fledging footy career.

Kirwan State High School student and Townsville Blackhawks flyer Dudley Dotoi has signed with NRL outfit the Wests Tigers on a two-year-deal and will begin pre-season training with the Sydney-based club in November.

Already making a name for himself in footy circles thanks to his speed, ability and dynamite fend, Dotoi is eager to follow in the footsteps of other Kirwan High alumni who have taken the NRL by storm in recent times, such as Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow, Jason Taumalolo and Brandon Smith.

“I sat down with a couple of Wests Tigers people earlier in the year and they were very keen to have me there,” Dotoi said.

“It is like a dream come true. Playing NRL is something I’ve wanted to do ever since I can remember. It’s what I’ve been working towards and I’m overwhelmed that this next step has happened. A lot of people have helped me along the way and made it possible for me to be where I am now.”

Dotoi has been one of Kirwan High’s key weapons during this year’s Aaron Payne Cup schoolboys season, and he has also been a standout in the Townsville Blackhawks’ junior ranks. He was part of Kirwan’s Aaron Payne Cup and state championship-winning sides last year, and the success helped propel him further on to the radar of NRL sides.

Dotoi placed much of the credit to the support of family, friends, the Townsville Blackhawks system and also the Kirwan High community.

“I’m blessed to be here. I couldn’t be in a better place and the support I’ve received has been amazing,” Dotoi said.

Dotoi and his Kirwan Bears will play St Brendan’s College, Yeppoon, next Wednesday in the final of the Aaron Payne Cup, with Dotoi once again showing his class in the semi-final against The Cathedral College to help guide Kirwan to a 28-24 victory.

Bears coach Nathan Norford said Dotoi has all the attributes to enjoy success in the NRL.

“He’s a very talented youngster, and he’s got speed and elusiveness to beat. He can defence well and he’s definitely one of our strike weapons out there. He was with the Blackhawks’ state championship winning team and he has a great attitude. I’m sure he’ll grab the opportunity in front of him with both hands,” Norford said.

Doesn't look like anything special from the highlights - pretty fast, not electric.

I dunno man he looks really good to me. He's playing centre here but he looks like he would make a really good winger. He looks fast but also like he's very difficult to tackle and has very good footwork.

"Round 1 - Dudley Dotoi
Townsville Blackhawks centre Dudley Dotoi was dangerous with the ball, scoring two tries, during his side's 48-10 win over Mackay Cutters in Round 1. Throughout the regular season, Dudley secured a double every time he played, with six tries in three games. Coach Stephen Sheppard said "Dudley is an excitement machine who looked dangerous every time he touched the ball"."

Here's a thread from the NRL Cowboys reddit where a few people who watched Kirwan were really hoping he was signed. https://www.reddit.com/r/NRLcowboys/comments/m0zpga/player_to_bank_on_dudley_dotoi/

Looks awesome wonder who spotted this gem

I like the look of this young kid! Nice pickup! Also need to consider that this isn't a full highlights package with the best bits pulled out for the whole season. It is just the one game which makes it great to see his involvement and threat posed in this game only!

The Telegrap reporting there may not be a spot for Trindal at the Sharkies next year good bench player goal kicker and replacement for Doueihi until he recovers

I like Trindall but resigned with Sharks this year. He’s not going anywhere

Looks like Harry Grant wants to come home to Concord, very Tigers-esque performance from him tonight.

More forward passes than Adam Elliott.

Would also throw a little penny at Mark Nicholls.

Yeah surprised not signed yet unless retiring?

I’ve mentioned him as a suggestion a few months back and got shut down… anyway.

His a good guy just played over 100 games, seems as though his only got a regular opportunity since he went to Souths but hasn’t look back with increased time.
I read the interest with signing with Souths was that he is studying Sports Management at uni and was looking for a work experience opportunity and Souths offered him work in the off-season as well as the chance to play.
I’d say he still wants to play but will most likely sign for hardly anything to stay with Souths, seems to be well liked there.

Madge will get us there , it’s a work in progress , all this Madge bashing is rubbish just support your team and reap the benefits

And what are the benefits for you, aside from getting to post on here? I get a good laugh from supporting the team most weeks.

I thnk he meant future benefits.

How much we gotta pay to bring the Cheese across?

Can we throw in Nofa and Talau to get an early release?

I know this was probably somewhat a joke. But do people really think you can just throw two starting backline players at a swap for a hooker?

If hypothetically both players magically said yes to dropping their long term contracts and playing somewhere else. That would only be to get Smith out of his contract... We still need to throw 1m at him.

Then our already very weak in depth backline has just lost two players. Who plays centres? Who takes the other wing spot? Let alone when there is injuries. Cant recruit a marquee as we just spend 1m on smith. Would probably need another spare mill for two starters in those positions.

You go hard for Smith for 1mill sure... but you don't severely weaken the rest of the squad because of it

Longtime reader only a new poster so be kind

Some suggestions (absolutely understand some aren't realistic haha)

- sign peachey (great utility value)
- resign roberts on absolute min $$ (good for indigenous pathways)
- sign Adam Elliott if sacked
- offer the cheese 1 mill a season , if Melbourne want players in return send them liddle and nofo
- offer brooks to Canberra in return for Joseph tapine
- sign Curtis Scott on min $$ (he is a better defender than any back in our club)

anyone watch trent robinsons post match conference? Dear lord he rinses Henry Perenara

Trent Robinson is a very smart fellow, also has a great memory as you could see when he rattled off the matches with issues he was concerned about.

Problem is he's a hypocrite. Banging on last night about his players not being protected when he has a few of the biggest loose cannons in his own side (Radley, JWH) and forgetting the fact that Latrell was developed in the Roosters system.

It was as interesting to watch as it was about as one-eyed as you could get. I laughed when he suggested that nobody looks out for the Roosters, as if they didn't waltz to two premierships after signing the best two players in the game, then had the Jordan Rankin rule overturned so they could play their wunderkind, then got Boyd Cordner's salary nicely wiped off their cap despite the extensive number of head knocks endured whilst on the payroll of the Roosters (i.e. pre-existing before current contract).

Has done a lot of whinging this year, he needs a break.

He whinges about protecting players every time a roosters player gets collected, even when it is an obvious accident.

He whinges when any of his players get pulled up for an act of foul play or contact with the head.

I have a mate that is a roosters fan and he is suffering as well. They are not used to not being treated favourably by the NRL.

Don't Elliot and the Bulldog boys grab each other's tackle?
Is that your idea of good?
Not that there's anything wrong with that.

At any rate it looks like yet another really great youth signing. Our scouts are plucking them from everywhere!

70% of them wont make 1st grade and 60% of those that do will be pinched by another club if they show any ability.
