Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Can someone tell me how we never held on to Mavoni Tuifua? What was the club thinking?

If you're back maybe you could do research on something already spoken about a lot.

Ultimately he was the 4th best prop in Flegg. Powerful but terrible fitness and defence. Just so lazy, , if you can barely last 10 mins in Flegg you'll get massacred against men. Sure he's good for a barnstorming run or two but you need more than running over smaller opponents in Flegg to make the step up.

We have several better props than him from this year's Flegg and joining our Flegg next season.

Sims is 18 months older than Finucane who was considered “too old” on here.

Second row is no longer a weakness IMO. We need outside backs, lock and a front rower to partner Stefano.

Finucane wasn't too old.
He was too old to be offering a 4 year deal.

If you are looking at a backrower to recruit start of 23. Kaufusi is the guy we should be considering throwing money at.
#note Melbourne tend to not over pay for their backrowers and likely release them before a final big pay day.
Think; Blair, Manu, Proctor, Harris. Watching Trent Loierio be getting more and more game time I’d say come end of next year they might consider not resigning him (for big coin) if he takes unders that’s a different story.
Just resigned for another year just last month but given the November 1 clause he could be approached end of this season to sign for 22.
Given he signed a one year deal he might be trying to line up a new home at one of the expansion clubs but worthwhile to put the feelers out.

Sims would be a bad signing. He wants a long term deal and is on $650k next season. He has been declining the last two years and constantly gives away penalties and makes errors

Tigers will probably sign him because they're dumb

Tigers won’t sign him because they don’t sign players anymore

Thanks mate.

Unlike you I don’t live my life for this forum.

I have a life.

Thanks for the note though.

Pole was prioritised.

Tuifua,
Overweight, unfit and unlikely.

Pole and SIone Topou are both great prospects and now we have the young prop from Keebra Park. There is plenty of talent.

Agreed,it was definately the length of the deal that was unacceptable imo.2 years with 1 year club option would have been ok.He went for the long term money/pension

I think our stocks up front are pretty good - wouldn't be surprised if we try to lock in a Paulo or Thompson to round it out.

We really need to concentrate on our backs. Speed, skill and better defence in the centres particularly.

I am really not sold on Gildart and have my suspicions that Kei and Hoffman won't make the step up to NRL (but they are young). I think AJ Kepaoa could do well in the centres when fit again. I would be happy to let Noffa go if he can find a suitor too.

There is cash in the bank and there will definitely be movement in the off season. We need 4-5 solid upgrades if 2022 is going to bring more success than this season.

I find it interesting people say our forwards are good. I remember the last Broncos game, we won, but felt our forwards lost the fight. Similarly most games this year our forwards seemed dominated. Easily noticeable against top 4 teams but one of the worst in the comp. Maguire knows it hence looking at Pangai Jnr. Next year we will bank on young players improving alot and all the fluff stories in the off season about how fit they are, just like last year. I bought it. Fool me once..Hope we get some genuine contenders.

What we do need is a backup fullback and a backup winger for next season. Another quality centre and quality prop would be great

How bout we sign a legitimate winger and Nofo can be the backup.

That also works lol

Nofo is a great bargaining chip for a possible trade.

Wonder if Manly would take him for Garrick or Saab ? 😅

No to Sims. Again, another player we would be signing who is past their best and we don't really need him.

Outside of halves/hookers, I don't think you can justify signing people past their best because they don't make enough of an impact on your team as compared to what you'd get out of a younger player at the same position. I actually think Blore from next year on will be a better player, but even if Sims was still better, does Sims present enough of an upgrade over Blore that we'd be a better team? No, we'd still perform roughly the same.

Someone like Pearce on the other hand even if he is old, would be worth signing for a 1 or 2 year deal just because he'd present such an enormous upgrade over Brooks that we'd be likely be a top 8 team with him if he could stay healthy (big if). At least it would have positives in building a winning culture and some momentum around the club so that the next half could come into a better position.

So we kept the better of the two? Mavoni looked decent.

Standard People turning on him cause he left

The media loves Wests Tigers.
Anyone available just has to be a maybe/probable for us.

Thankfully, the powers here are selective as to where $$$ go.

Mind you, with a team review underway soon, and if I was a player thinking of joining Wests Tigers, I'd like to have certainty as to who the coach is going to be.

Club is at massive risk of losing another Flegg player in Jordan Hill - Winger.

They have lobbed an extremely low-ball figure (4 figure sum......) with the excuse that he is coming back from an ACL. He is ahead of schedule for rehab even with covid.

There are already better offers for him elsewhere - would be disappointed to see him go.

That guy is the hardest runner in the club.

I agree with you.

We will be revisiting this next year after he tears us a new one after we play Canterbury next year..

FULLBACK: Tex Hoy (Knights)

WING: Edrick Lee (Knights), Blake Ferguson (Eels)

CENTRES: Dylan Walker (Sea Eagles), Josh Dugan (Sharks)

HALVES: Corey Norman (Dragons), Tyrone May (Panthers), Tanah Boyd (Titans), Will Smith (Eels)

LOCK: Tyrone Peachey (Titans), Max King (Storm)

SECOND-ROW: John Asiata (Broncos), Jack Gosiewksi (Sea Eagles),

PROP: Aaron Woods (Sharks), Dylan Napa (Bulldogs), Mark Nicholls (Rabbitohs)

HOOKER: Mitch Rein

Players off contract 2021 by position. The kitchens pretty bare

Surely nicholls has signed elsewhere hence why souths haven't re-signed and waiting for season over to announce

Adam Kieran is good

Adam Keighran and Drew Hutchison. Are they on contract for next year? They've been great for the Chooks. Keighran excellent at centre and Hutchison is playing at a level that Brooks could only dream of

Keighran can kick goals even when they don’t go between the posts.

What was that about...
Looked like a miss but was confirmed ?

Why aren't the goal posts black?
Wouldnt that make it easier to see what side of the post a white ball has gone?

Something like this? @MAGPIES1963
Or if the posts are too bright then they should turn off the the floodlights ?

Yep good one @FinestTigers thats the idea.
And having black posts makes them look a bit dramatic.

What about flashing LED lighting lights? Kickers could pilot the ball like a landing strip
