Simms to Roosters rumour

But he isn’t good enough for us ….

No, he's not. His weaknesses can be hidden in a strong team where he plays limited minutes. Put him in our team and he will struggle big time defensively and fail to have much impact in attack

I reckon taking on Woods again is a step backwards, a bit like the way he runs.... All jokes aside he's soooooo slow in a game that is getting faster and faster. His type of prop played a decade ago and he isn't getting any better. His D around the ruck is average as well. We need to move on from him and all his past history at the club also. We want a hard hitting impact prop to pair up with Stef and give us some starch, and a front row that other teams are afraid of. I'd rather see Dias get some time in NRL than us sign Woods.

I agree, Woods would be only a better version of Tamou, we need aggressive runners that can also play a good D.

For next year we need to continue on the same path of youth and stop with players with issues. We are not a strong club to cater for these types.

I’d be targeting players off contract in 2022 that are looking for an opportunity or at clubs with depth that may have to release players due to salary cap.

Franklin Pele, Toultau Koula, Reuben Cotter, Maratha Niukore, Herbie Farnworth, Tom Starling, Cade Cust.

The only rumoured veterans on the market I’d take on short term deals would be Tariq Sims.

Ah Mau?

He’s getting long in the tooth I’d pass.

Gee there really is a limit of cheap experienced players out there. An alternative id consider is Makatoa, he is 28 with only a handful of games but has served a long apprenticeship in the 2nd tier.
Most importantly he is an impact player.
Not contracted on anything other than a train and trial contract at the eels.

Did you actually watch him this year?
The last half of the season he was actually very strong and good. He made more tackles than any of our backrowers and missed only 5 tackles in his last 8 games. 90% of his try misses actually happened during the 1st half of the year when everyone in the team was getting chopped and changed. He actually picked up around SOO and during the time most of the team was suspended etc. He is no way near as bad as people make him out to be. He would be better than we have.

Absolutely nothing we all hope and pray :hand_with_index_and_middle_fingers_crossed:

One of @Demps kings of NSW Cup ....no thanks

With Woods I don't ever care that he's not an impact runner. His big problem is that he's a very low impact defender who has poor movement. That's exactly the opposite of what we need. We need players who are really strong tacklers. We have Blore and Brooks (for a halfback) who can tackle well and...?

I seem to be on my lonesome in thinking Gildart will be a gun centre for us, but I'd be happy to have Scott here as well, especially if it's on a contract similar to the Roberts one as suggested.

No, your not on your lonesome @TillLindemann in thinking Gildart
will be a gun centre for Us.

Me too,

think Gildaet will go OK over here

What are u basing that on?
If you saw him play you wouldn't be so bold.

He might go OK at some local stuff but he's shown nothing that he will excell...

I love being wrong about players so I hope he carves up but the expectations should be very low for Oli G.

If he performs as well as Pauga, you can consider his season a success... and again, that's IF he even makes it on the field in a first grade jersey.

You may change your mind after you view bis ypu tube "oliver gildart all 2019 tries and assists".

Looks like theres a strong chance of Madge staying, mostly because nobody wants to cough up $800k to punt him.
If so,It will only be for one year with the performance clauses in next years new contract pushing him out end 2022 without financial pain surely
If true, our recruitment is now consigned to the desperate and dateless player bargain bin, with minimal interest from quality NRL players to link up with this culture. So we need to reconsiderour recruitment targets and be less fussy for2022 as follows
Curtis Scott-we are indeed "desperate" for a quality centre next year.and he has been that in the past ,but not for some 2 yrs.Because we have very few options for the 3 or 4 jersey,Id take him on a strict 1yr plus club option 1 yr deal.Dont like myself for being expedient, but sometimes you just have to deal with the cards yr dealt.
Elliot-proven NRL quality player in a position we have plenty of ,but mostly mostly unproven candidates ..we'd prefer an impact forward(which he aint)but he cld bring desperately needed experience and leadership and allow Luciano a rest during games.Same deal as above for Scott, but without the risk as Elliots misdeameanours were just the misadventures of youth (but lock up yr wives and daughters)!
Woods-no go under any circumstances..not the impact prop we need, and untrustworthy leadership .He can mow lawns
And regardless of whether Madge stays or goes, new assistant coaches for attack and defence that actually SPEAK and emulate the "Finuccane"pre-game preperation that so impressed Stefano(and others)
..oh,and a smarter Board with more footy knowledge and an ability to oppose the Chairmans whims wld be very useful
ZMadge for another year...is what it is,but almost worth a go fund me!

I watched him all year and was not impressed. Had the odd decent game but rarely stood out for them, he was just okay. I'm not spending big money on a 32 year old for him to be just okay.

"Better than what we have" is how we stuffed up our salary cap. He's on $600k+ and wants a multi year deal at 32 years old! Have we not learned our lesson? He makes no sense for us at all, by the second year of his contract we would be looking for a way to punt him

It sounds like he'll stay at Dragons in 2022 anyway

No way anyone will pay him 600k.
People think oh his last contract was that so thats what we pay. For 300-400k he would be a very solid pickup.
If he went to the roosters or stayed at the Dragons would be for way less than 600k.

Sorry if this has been answered already. Is there any news on James Roberts? Will the club take up their option in his contract?

Considering he wasn’t one of the players the club farewelled the other day, i’d say it’s likely he’ll be here. Which isn’t the worst decision, because there aren’t any better options out there for next year. And he’ll be playing for a contract, so you’d assume he’d be hungry.

If there's no other option OK but I'd prefer to move him on. He really didn't show anything the whole year. (Still feel for him having issues though.)

We can only hope and pray the common sense prevails and we don't re-sign him to an nrl contract. NSW Cup maybe, but he's been a massive failure. If we take a gamble on a centre it should be Scott who at least still potentially has what it takes.
