Ok, so it wasnt JUST because he punched DCE in the head, its because he was a "problem player"? Exactly the reason Roosters let him go.

He said it himself he had an attitude problem. Mates of mine I now work with played with him and against him in junior comps which he absolutely lit up but everyone knew he was the cockiest person on the field and leading into his first NRL stint, thought he was better than everyone

And hes said so recently he's grown alot hes really thankful to those who gave him a chance and now hes ready to show what hes made of in the nrl

The fact that some people want Taylor is indicative of how much our club loves mediocrity. It's just a massive no. He's been a failure for many years now. The chances of him coming good again are one in thousand.

We're much better off targeting players that can have an immediate impact, or at least have the possibility that they'll turn into the player we need during the contract. We can't keep gambling our precious squad spots trying to squeeze blood from a stone.

If we had a dozen roster spots open then maybe for 150k on a one year deal. With where our squad is no way...

Taylor at the right price to me is a good buy. The outlay is not great but the returns could be great if he fires. I don't believe the Gold Coast is the easiest place to concentrate with so many distractions.

So you see no value in having a noted organiser in Hastings having one of the two positions?
Or you like the idea of Taylor being a backup for either Brooks or Hastings.

Taylor and Brooks.

So you’ve told me regularly that Maguire uses Brooks incorrectly by making him doing too much organising.
Who is going to organise if your not playing an organiser?

You also don’t see a place for Hastings in the 17? Or a utility off the bench?

Cleary had no issue with Brooks. I provided a link to where he said I let him play to his strengths.

Still not answering the question. I guess Marshall did all the organising back then. I’ve seen you’ve mentioned that Taylor you believe is going to be the organiser.

If that’s the case why aren’t the Raiders signing him. If he is mentally on his game he would be perfect for them.

Yet, not only did he play limited times this year, the titans used him as the second play maker and gave Foggerty all the kicking duties.

Also I’m curious; yet you’ve said Hastings is not a current NRL player. So where do you see him playing? Partnering Madden in KOE Cup?

Zero chance of that happening. He’s playing first grade

I know who I'm taking and its not sloth I agree with @Russell if Hastings is halfback and given the reigns he will be in conversation for halfback of the year

Why is this a competition between Taylor and Hastings? Taylor is a current NRL player. Hastings is not.

With this attitude we never would have signed Gareth Ellis

Hastings is unproven at NRL level. Don’t care what he did in a Mickey Mouse competition with no defensive structures.

The cockiest person on the field is exactly what we need, at the moment it's a team of shy boys who put their head down at the first opportunity.

There was problems at the roosters with pearce and Hastings dad being a club legend his old man said some not so nice things to uncle Nick then they shipped him to manly where he was a consistent solid option but DCE and jacko just didn't see eye to eye then had the bust up

So its not just that he punched DCE in the head? Its that he couldnt get on with two sets of team mates and colleagues? Hell of an endorsement.

Exactly. Even if he’s average at talent level, he’s a bloody goer and he makes himself heard. We need someone on the field who won’t shut up

I don't think Marty coming back to tigers is a good idea @TigerWest he's asking for 850k - 900k for a player who looks like Tarzan plays like Jane he disappears too much in games for my liking and probably only has 2 or 3 years left in him

My thinking is we only need him for a year or 2, until the younger blokes fill out, but agree, if that is his price, not worth persisting with.

And since then he has got along great with his team mates, coaches and fans at two different clubs. If we could give a head stomper a go, we can give someone who was a bit of a pest a few years ago a go.

Lot of talk about how we need our forward pack to play on the front foot. Well what I admire about Hastings in watching him in a regularly beaten forward pack at Wigan this year is that he puts himself in the contest. He isn’t flashy, super quick or even slick. But he isn’t afraid to play tough and get his team back into the game through some dummy half runs.

People change. Who would’ve thought.

DCE was the exact same when he was younger and the club folded to him, not the other way around.

Actually you’ve got it backwards. At the moment, Hastings has an NRL contract for 2022 and Taylor does not.

@Tiger5150 this was long ago and hes grown since then as a person hes determined to play his hardest and prove to everyone in the nrl hes a good player he's a goer he will rip and tear and go at anyone he doesn't care if you're a rookie or a 10 year veteran he wants to win at any cost and that's what we need

I have no problem with that, just clarifying that he wasnt excluded for punching DCE in the head. No NRL club wanted him.

Do you think that if Cameron Munster punched Brandon Smith in the head tonight and Melbourne sacked him, would he be in Salford in February?

Thats pretty much my whole point. They "folded" to DCE because he was valuable, on the other hand zero out of 15 other clubs threw Hastings a lifeline.

As I said earlier, if it was Munster punching on with Smith, you think Munster would be playing NRL next year?

Mate Im willing to give him the chance. Sounding a lot like Josh Reynolds so far, but with less NRL experience.

Fair question, but I think Harry Grant in the year before he came to the Tigers is a better comparison than Munster, i.e young and stuck behind a rep player so hadn't fully established himself.
He obviously has talent, he played for the junior Kangaroos and the NSW under 20s so it is not just his English form that gives us hope. Not denying he may have been a bit of a knob in the past but by all signs he has matured in recent years.

I believe Ash Taylor has a lot to offer with mentoring.

No comment on Hastings other to add he will discover nearly all NRL forwards are much faster then he is and they will target him in defence. Makes play making far harder than the ESL.
