Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Just my opinion - Taylor is not worth a bean.

It would be like getting rid of Brooks and replacing him with an inferior Brooks - Dumb as...

The fact that some people want Taylor is indicative of how much our club loves mediocrity. It's just a massive no. He's been a failure for many years now. The chances of him coming good again are one in thousand.

We're much better off targeting players that can have an immediate impact, or at least have the possibility that they'll turn into the player we need during the contract. We can't keep gambling our precious squad spots trying to squeeze blood from a stone.

If we had a dozen roster spots open then maybe for 150k on a one year deal. With where our squad is no way...

Taylor at the right price to me is a good buy. The outlay is not great but the returns could be great if he fires. I don't believe the Gold Coast is the easiest place to concentrate with so many distractions.

So you see no value in having a noted organiser in Hastings having one of the two positions?
Or you like the idea of Taylor being a backup for either Brooks or Hastings.

I really dislike having all these players that can play halves but can’t lock a position (douhie, brooks, Hastings, Taylor, peachey) all in the same team. Madge will just rotate them all in and out all year as we lose and the team will get no consistency.

We need to remember Prince came from the Cowboys and really wasn't at his best. I recall a broken leg as well? With mentoring he came back strongly. I have high hopes for Ash Taylor.

If Taylor coming means less time for Brooks, everyone should be on board.

Deadset enough is enough with the midget

He’s one centimetre shorter than Taylor

So he’s taller, therefore Brooks is a midget.

It really wouldn’t. Ones making 800k next season and the other would make 250 and could be less. The only half worse than Brooks is Croft

From what I read, Taylor's manager is asking for $300k. Small outlay, small risk but great potential.

Don't agree with that at all GNR.

I think Hastings is going to be a winner for us.
IF... he has options. i.e. forwards going forward, players backing up, players chasing kicks etc. etc.

Then again if they don't do that again in 2022 - won't matter who is in the halves.

Only reason Hastings went to super league was his off field problems on field he was a good player who could change games

The off field problem was that he smacked DCE in the head, who wouldn't want to do the same.

Hastings- former man of steel , led Salford one of the worst teams in esl to a grand final, followed that up by leading wigan to a grand final last year , one of Wigan's best this year

Ash taylor - played 16 games , inconsistent, disappears in games , is scared to take the line on since his hip injury , looks like sloth from the goonies

I know who I'm taking and its not sloth I agree with @Russell if Hastings is halfback and given the reigns he will be in conversation for halfback of the year

Why is this a competition between Taylor and Hastings? Taylor is a current NRL player. Hastings is not.

Taylor and Brooks.

So you’ve told me regularly that Maguire uses Brooks incorrectly by making him doing too much organising.
Who is going to organise if your not playing an organiser?

You also don’t see a place for Hastings in the 17? Or a utility off the bench?

@pawsandclaws1 because Hastings is coming to the club and the only reason Hastings wasn't in the nrl is because he punched the long neck turtle DCE in the head at training

So punching DCE in the head stopped 15 other clubs from signing him?

Cleary had no issue with Brooks. I provided a link to where he said I let him play to his strengths.

Once you get a name as a problem player in the nrl you're essentially damaged goods especially if you hit another player with such status that DCE had at the time he was essentially he was blackballed

There is an article I read where Hastings allegedly had some difficulty with one exceptional player and a club legend at the Roosters. I'm trying to be diplomatic.

Ok, so it wasnt JUST because he punched DCE in the head, its because he was a "problem player"? Exactly the reason Roosters let him go.

With this attitude we never would have signed Gareth Ellis

Hastings is unproven at NRL level. Don’t care what he did in a Mickey Mouse competition with no defensive structures.

There was problems at the roosters with pearce and Hastings dad being a club legend his old man said some not so nice things to uncle Nick then they shipped him to manly where he was a consistent solid option but DCE and jacko just didn't see eye to eye then had the bust up
