The stocks of Penrith defensive coach Cameron Ciraldo continue to rise. The Panthers have clearly been the best defensive side over the past two seasons. He can now sit back and wait for the right head coaching offer, which most rookie coaches don't usually get the chance to do.

They missed 59 tackles last night

Yet defended their way to a grand final win. Their absolutely battered Souths with their defence all night long and slowed the ruck down perfectly to suit them. Line speed was incredible too

Easy to have line speed when you are off-side most of the game.

The rules are there to take advantage of and they did it excellently. All the top teams do it, we were too dumb to figure it out

Dumb or lazy with no desire. Line speed is only achieved when players have the will to go there in a group. Some one has to lead - no leaders no direction no team work no results

If they are fit enough. For me that is a massive question mark last year. The team has never looked better (lean, ripped) but was their cardio up to it. They looked to gas back end of each half most games.

Enthusiasm and offside. We dont get enthusiasm but we certainly get offside in our games.

Sometimes I wonder if any of you guys have played rugby league before.

There is no fitness like match fitness, nothing comes close, can’t replicate it, can’t train for it. Just need to build it.

Mate, I played and I know exactly what match fitness is all about, but its still relative. Match fitness will only allow you to play to your level of fitness. IMO it is clear that other teams have more gas than the Tigers in the back end of games.

For me what stood out about Penrith and Storm this year is their line speed in defence and players running off the ball in attack, at speed, in numbers and they are doing it until the 80th minute. Our guys did it in patches but always seem gassed late in halves.

Usually we were gassed because our completion rate and discipline were rubbish and we were forced to do a lot more defending. Although we got a lot of breathers standing under our posts waiting for conversions

@GNR4LIFE I think if injuries happen i see peach at center but I think we might end up signing Curtis Scott for that spot and gildart will start in reserves then come in round 4 for the other center spot depending on pre season

If Walker and Burns are off the market then I’d sign Scott. Not a lot of other options in the centres.

I would give Scott a crack on a one year deal.

If Lomax is definitely no go,a one year deal for Scott with a further one year club option plus an 8 month no alcohol condition each year!!
Booze is ruining him(like Elliot, who gets it)
In fact, thing "we'll all be rooned" if we dont do a bit better next

Thing to think about with Scott is he's probably going to look at compensation for the way he was sacked by Raiders.

He has form following up his rights which he should.

He was on a good wage at Canberra not sure how that impacts his next place of employment.

Opposition aware of our deficiencies getting out of our own 25 so more than happy to charge off the line and give the odd penalty or 6 again. We are usually gassed by the time we have to kick.

Fair enough, I believe match fitness is fitness beyond your level of physical fitness and I also feel building it is limited to the level of competition that requires it.
These guys have now tasted a year together and under the new rules. The hungry competitive players will build on it and the cruisers will start to fall further back into the pack. Eventually we will have a full team of the first variety.

You are incorrect imo. They broke the rules by being off-side - unfortunately Sutton let them get away with it during most of the game.

We were not too dumb at all - when we do it, most referees give 6 again or penalize us.

I am not giving Scumbag Cleary credit for anything at all.

Being match fit and being fit are two totally different things i can to the gym run on a treadmill for an hour no problem if I go to a training session with a local club its completely different story first 5 minutes im gassed so there is a big difference

It was nothing to do with match fitness. Most of the players played lengthy stretches of NRL. Sure a kid coming up from nsw cup, especially after the comp was cancelled (Tuki), didn't have the match fitness. We just weren't fit. We got tired quickly despite exerting far less energy than almost every other team. There's a reason why we're changing our high performance and fitness coaches.

As usual we can’t catch a break from the outside and the fans alike. Sign Peachey and it’s like why would you sign him, that’s not what you need etc. or it’s why can’t the tigers sign anybody and why are they so quiet in the market. Even if we went on to sign Elliot, Scott and sims, it would be the same thing. I pray the club has learned its lesson and is looking at recruitment in silence for bloody once, hence the lack of 7 articles a day the last 2 weeks. The first week of November will be an interesting one

The only way to do it is to hit their juniors.
But I’m sure we won’t be the only club trying to break up the high spending first grade side. They have a full top 30.

Kurtis Morrin. Morrin was named the Club’s Jersey Flegg Player of the Year and he led from the front both on and off the field. A move to lock saw him control the middle in attack and defence, averaging 109 running metres and 21 tackles per game. His leg speed and ball playing ability through the middle, was the highlight of his game.

You'd think how hard they've recruited in first grade there should be space to raid any good juniors
