The Hodgson vs Api situation is very interesting. I am not saying this will happen I actually think it will fall through (knowing the tigers). But looking in as a fan Hodgson is definitely the better option long term if we can get rid of Liddle. Simpkin is a class hooker and has proved this in KOE and first grade. Our problem is and has been for a while is an 80 minute hooker. For me wasting a bench spot on a hooker or utility is silly especially for a team like the tigers. It needs to be 4 big men. I think Simpkin does need to be phased into 80 minutes but Hodgson is perfect for the whole team.
Hodgson is a leader and has the British connection with Hastings, Gildart and Sheens. Which you would think would tempt him to come. Only flaw for me is that he is injury prone but that is easily fixed. IE: Hastings, Simpkin and I would like to see Dockar-clay in the top 30.

In conclusion, in the long run and for the team you would think Hodgson is the wiser choice. With Simpkin at 14 to add attacking flare. But we will see how the meat head of Pascoe sorts this us.

Liddle is developing a fan base much like Brooks... except Brooks fans bailed, I believe.

People are even starting to make rubbish excuses for Liddle.... "oh he fatigues that's why he struggles" for a start he's a professional player that's played over 50 games, he shouldn't be getting tired after 20 mins as a dummy half. Different if he's a prop

Secondly he can't pass! No matter what time of the game he manages to throw a pass at Brooks ankles or over Doueihis head.

Not saying he's completely rubbish and should be punted but it's pretty clear we need a lot more direction at hooker and if you're choosing one of Liddle or Simpkin to put time into and develop, you always choose Simpkin.

There's no harm in keeping both our current hookers AND signing Hodgson either

Mate I was at both games in Redcliffe and Liddle was walking around in back play all the time with hands on hips he was completely gassed after 15 minutes, maybe go too some live games you might see it for yourself

Wasn't anywhere to be seen, not even within 20m of Joffa when he played the ball 1m from the tryline against Warriors with Tigers down by 2. No dummy half at all, turn over. That is inexcusable at 1st grade level. Camera pans around and he's sucking in air mid pitch from 2 plays prior.

That was a season killer right there. As was his brain snap on the tryline against Pangai Junior, without that we might have beaten Penrith twice, imagine the difference to the perception of our season and club if that had been the case.

Yep, you're right. You got him on two occasions. And you'll probably try to tell us AD never missed a tackle or Laurie always linked up with his support and Stefano never missed a tackle or dropped a ball.

Yeah fair call, not trying to death ride the bloke, I've said before he was far from our worst this year, and he was infinitely more valuable than someone like Mbye.

Still, either Hodgson or Api would be a big upgrade.

And Simpkin is worse, I don’t know where you get the idea that he is our saviour he is a couple of years away thanks to Covid

If you can't see more in Simpkin than Liddle jog on seriously. I was a fan of liddle up until this season but his service game has gone bad really quickly. Im seriously amazed this club decided to re-sign him, it seems bulking up in the offseason has done him no good at all, cant have a hooker in 1sts passing the way he does. Rather invest into Simpkin who showed more in his first two games than liddle has in a long time. Consistently producing those kind of games will come with age I feel, wasn't suprised to see him struggle after those two first games especially after his effort in the souths game. Liddle on the other hand, if hes not there now, I don't see the point in holding onto him apart from warming the seat really.

Thats 64 games over how many seasons though? And like I said, in the most recent influx of those games, he has been below average. Im sorry if you don't see that. I think ultimately the club does now, hence the discussion with Hodgson, which is why I was so confused with his re-signing. You think they'll run with Liddle on the bench? Nope.. whats the point, we gonna wait till he's 30 before he can distribute as a hooker should? And when it comes to the bench position, yes I think Simpkin can do a better job than Liddle, and with a few more games (not 64 over 5 seasons), Im quite confident he will take the starting hooker role and play 80 mins, as a hooker should. Where does Lewis come into play? It's just my assumption that you seem to rate a very unique set of players, irrespective of their talent... you kind of hand them out participation awards for looking like they try.

Look at it like coach does!!!
Liddle = showing signs of improvement after a horror run with injury, not yet stringing games together consistency is an issue......could go either way.
Hodgson = Proven hooker with smarts, ability and experience that saw him in grand final two years ago.
Koroisau = premiership winner, fittest of the three also has good rap sheet, Origin,GF and an experienced first grader that has no major injury concern(unless I missed something).
But has some baggage when it comes to off field issues.

My opinion, Hodgson, 2 years rotating roll with Simpkin.
The right kind of signing to help grow a young specialist hooker for the long run.
Koroisau would block him.
Liddle I can’t see becoming what we need.

Well he was pretty incompetent letting so many juniors go. Like, how can you not return calls and not turn up to meetings when that is the bread and butter of your role? There was a rumour floating around a month or two ago that Pascoe was doing this. Maybe the wires were crossed and it was Hartigan.

Does anyone know if Hodgson is any closer to accepting the deal? We really need him, Liddle is not a 80min hooker, his defence isn’t great in the middle. Hodgson and Curtis Scott would be alright

These two players could really help us and we shouldn’t be breaking the bank to get them.
