Looks like Ivan won’t be the only Cleary on the Bus.

Keep your eyes peeled ?

Please don’t tell me you’re Smoking Gun by another name - does this one actually have a chance of being real??!!

I’ll let you check my previous posts and you can make your own mind up of my credibility.

Due to the NRL rules nothing would could announced or signed for a while yet. Having said that, it’s looking extremely likely.

Cheers!! Sounds great

As Baze mentioned no one other than Penrith can sign him this year. I refuse to get my hopes up until I actually see him in Tigers colours.

Interesting - and we would hope that Nathan is conveying all this to the Panthers if he has no intention of re-signing with them, because that would be seen as stringing them along and then according to some that would question his integrity.
It would be great if we get him, and terrible for the Panthers, but thats just what happens when players are in demand.

It would be hilarious after announcing this signing in the pre-season of 2019 that we lose by 40 in round 2, 50 in round 3 and the clubs sacks Cleary after 3 rounds… :roll

Because we have an expensive Reynolds on the books…

He'll be homesick by then or have no hammy's left…

Yep and pretty sure we will still be paying the bulk of his contract in 2021

So you would get rid of an on fire Brooks and keep the expensive guy..?

No not at all. Just saying we would have the three of them. Where is Reynolds going to go for the same money in 3-4 years time?

Baze is probably the most reputable on here.

I couldn't see Cleary playing for the Panthers in 2019 if he's leaving. They've released half a dozen players early in their contracts inclusing their captain and he would just be next.

Gus would rather get in the next players early.

I reckon he is leaving the contract stuff to later, he has said that in the media and I believe him. When you are on the field you fight and organise the team as you can.

Dad and Son are probably trying to work out where they want to be in 2020\. I hope Cleary stays with the team he has built. If we get Nathan as well and he does the Halfback job reliably then that will be great.

That being said, we will keep building and selecting whatever happens. Ivan has outperformed way more then I imagined, but if he were to leave another coach could take us to the finals. We have a tough playing squad now and I can see us going forwards in leaps and bounds.

I wonder what the chances are of him getting an early release

Zero.

That’s the biggest risk factor with this one. Because he wouldn’t be able to sign with anyone but Penrith until the end of this year, there’s always that chance that he decides to change his mind. You can imagine Penrith would be doing everything they can to hang on to him.

That’s why I say extremely likely rather than 100%. We’ve all seen how quickly things can change in the NRL. Having said that, it’s no reason not be optimistic. From all accounts, if he was off contract this year he would be all but signed ?

There's a big difference between an early release and an immediate release. No way would Penrith let him go now, but if he signed for us for 2020 come November, we could well get him for 2019.
