Do they have any good centres we could swap him for?

Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow

Murray Tualagi I really like too. I reckon Val Holmes could make a good centre too but he's on too much coin

Hope the cowboys give us a trade otherwise bad luck. Not cut up about Lucy leaving. He is a good attacker but he was a massive reason why our defense sucked last year.

Good to see the Tigers playing their own game and not playing others anymore.

There’s no indication we won’t grant him a release if he asks.

The Wests Tigers have suffered another massive recruitment blow, losing outstanding second-rower Luciano Leilua to the North Queensland Cowboys.

The giant edge forward has also asked for a release from the final year of his contract in 2022 to join the Cowboys in the new year.

Shattered Wests Tigers officials are planning to issue a press release on Thursday morning.

The Cowboys have used the money they saved after missing out on barnstorming Penrith Panthers forward Viliame Kikau to sign Leilua on a three-year deal.

The Daily Telegraph understands he will be paid $700,000 a season.

It is known Leilua and his manager, Mario Tartak, have been disappointed with negotiations at the Wests Tigers for the last couple of months.

Little progress has been made since they began talks in August.

The signing of Isaah Papili'i from the Parramatta Eels last week on more than $600,000-a-year was the catalyst for Leilua to look elsewhere.

He felt undervalued.

The Leilua camp insists coach Michael Maguire is not the problem despite the coach’s well publicised falling out with his brother Joey.

It has more to do with the fact Wests Tigers CEO Justin Pascoe has not once spoken to Tartak about the negotiations since August.

Fare thee well. Reminds me of Marsters - lazy and no improvement. The local Oportos will be grateful.

Yea you’d think the cowboys would be once bitten twice shy with these types from us . I wish him all the best , but his defence was a huge reason we let in so many points the last few seasons .

Luciano was responsible for a lot of opposition line breaks & tries he will not be missed let him go this year Tuilagi is better on much less money.

A swap with Heilum Luki maybe? @tigerballs has the insider stuff on this one

If we can use the money for Luke Thompson I’d say it is an improvement. Big if though.

Well it would open up another roster spot, so we’d have to sign somebody. We’d be nearly a million under the cap between his salary and the 500 we wanted to pay Hodgson.

Sad to see him go but I’m glad we weren’t prepared to pay him that much. I’m hopeful but not at all confident will get something in return, not like we need more money 😂

Keen to see Tuilagi take the next step providing he takes Luchs spot

Why would we let him go though? No benefit for us and only negatives. He can hang around another season or we can get something in return

If he starts carrying on like an idiot then maybe get rid of him

Given recent history his bags are probably already packed.

We are pathetically weak when it comes to holding players to their contract

Are you that worried really though ? He’s amazing in attack but infuriating in defence. His half would always cover tackle for him whichever side he was on . That’s literally the opposite to what should happen .
If he contributes 1-2 tries a game , he either directly or indirectly lets in a few more . He’s a negative +\- player IMO.
He was lots of fun to watch though I’ll give him that . Perfect bench player .

Not a Sheens type of guy.
Knew this would happen...

Not mad tho.

Cotric to Raiders.
Tapine to Tigers.

Wait and see.

If he doesn’t want to be here, no point holding a gun to his head.

Gee that's a lot of money for LL. Just goes to show the lack of quality available players in the competition. No wonder players are chasing the dollars when clubs are prepared to throw it around.

Papalii on $600 vs Luciano on $700
Easy decision.
Another roller coaster year coming in 22 but 23 looking real bright. Hopefully we can blood a few more younguns too

Love the papa signing… even if he doesn’t perform I don’t blame the tigers for investing in him, as for Luci.. as if his brothers dismissal hasn’t played a role in this, media trying to blame Pascoe just to do the usual ‘Tigers bash up’ but thank god Pascoe was ignoring Lucis pay request.
Pretty sure we can invest in better talent for the price he was demanding.

$700k is definitely overs for Luciano, still disappointed we are losing him. One of my favourites and maybe if Pascoe talked to his manager a bit more a better deal could've happened

We've got a better second rower in Papali'i for $100k cheaper though. Tigers should be asking for Heilum Luki or Nanai in return for Luciano!

It was always about getting max dollars no matter what. You can't blame Pascoe.
