Brooks is like Frodo to me.
Tasked with a responsibility too great but without the fellowship (and other key characters), he's unable to advance to Mordor due to its burden.
I'm a huge fan of his, admit he's not developed into the leader I'd hoped he'd be and has been unable to reach his full potential but factoring in every challenge this club has faced and every limitation the team has had, it's not too hard to see why his (and the team's) progression has been like a roller-coaster.
Club and performance culture, recruitment and retention, infrastructures and systems have been poor for near a decade and people are still debating why we've been unable to create champion NRL players or a high performing team. Despite all this instability.
Collective leadership, coaches, teammates and standards help promote or optimise player and team development but without the necessary skills or resources (including players) the outcomes will always unsuccessfully reflect this - in the aforementioned aspects.
The worst thing about the low quality of our squads, over recent years, is that it's been hard to see who's going the extra mile. As sometimes there are players carrying the load of others and people rarely notice it. Not many are playing to the best of their capabilities and some don't even know what theirs are yet. Nor their limitations.
You cant fault one person for the team's lack of success. Also don't understand why people are harbouring any resentment over the Dally M halfback award. It's a great accomplshment despite the WTs failures.
