More cap trouble for Manly

The bad news keep coming for Manly - I’m hearing the Sea Eagles may need to let a leading player go before June 30 to be salary cap compliant.

Because of back-ended contracts and salary cap “irregularities” after they were caught cheating red-handed by the NRL, the Sea Eagles’ cap is a mess.

They are currently over the cap and need to shed around $500,000 before June 30 to get their books in order.

As a result, they are looking at offloading one of their representative stars. Dylan Walker and Marty Taupau have been mentioned but you'd have to think there's no way they would be let go.

It might be a player just on the next level who is shown the exit door.

But shedding a player on big money mid-season is no easy task - there aren’t many clubs with a spare $500,000 to $600,000 to spend - much as they would love to add a quality player to their line-ups.

Marty Tapau or Dylan Walker anyone? Would be nice to get those two here… Haha Manly and Bulldogs are screwed. Des Hasler must be so inept at roster management. Almost feel sorry for the clubs.... Almost haha

Both would value add to Wests at the right price. Have to beat the Manly wanka attitude outta them. Recent comments from both players are uncalled for and have a Manly ring to them.

Marty would be great to get back. I am thinking we should look at their backs.
Matthew Wright, 3 Dylan Walker, 4 Brian Kelly, 5 Akuila Uate,

Akuila for the right price is a decent defender. But max 2 year contract, should be performance based. If he goes lazy he is a real liability, but he might fit in here.

Akuila Uate - the guy is good for a million errors.

I don't where that info comes from , Manly would have started losing points if they weren't cap complaint by Round 1

Curtis Rona is exactly what we need in this team. A big-bodied, speedy, aerial, try-scoring winger.

Wouldn't mind Nathan Cleary + Taupau neither.

Keep hearing we have signed our future fullback but not coming until 2019.

Good young player yet to debut.

See what happens.

Can you tell us what club or comp he plays in?
Whether he plays ISP (ISC) or Flegg / Colts?

I like guessing games….

I guess Lolohea might not be thrilled....

Geo, can you honestly tell me that Tui wants to play fullback?
The only time his looked interested in his football is when his starting five eight and that is all I think he wants to play. It’s not for everyone, there’s a lot more running and a lot less actual time on the ball in defence or attack then you would get in the halves.
I had hopes that Tui would take his five eight form into this year with the advantage of having a bit more space to run the ball but he just does not seem to want to be switched on every second knowing that it’s a 10% chance the ball will come to him.
That is where Thompson has it in him in spades, he competes every step even when his not directly involved in the play.
Interesting times ahead but gee we’d look good with a Ponga or Trobouivic (spelling) at the back of our sets!
Time to look for the younger version of those two!

Meaney is the most Ponga like of the 3 i named. He has some highlights on youtube and plays for the Newcastle Jersey Flegg and maybe the ISP team.

Rival NRL clubs circle Meaney

He may be sidelined through injury but it hasn’t stopped rival clubs looking closely at Newcastle Knights back-up fullback Nick Meaney for next season.

We’ve heard the Wests Tigers and Gold Coast are two of at least three clubs who have expressed an interest in Meaney, who has a pretty fair fullback in Kalyn Ponga standing in his way at the Knights.

Newcastle officials are keen to keep the Ballina junior and are set to meet with his manager Daniel O’Loughlin next week to discuss a possible contract extension.

Meaney should return from early season ankle surgery in the next two or three weeks.
