Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Tigers go cold on English recruit

The outstanding form of youngster Esan Marsters has made Wests Tigers pull out of their bid to sign crack English centre Oliver Gildart.

The current Young England Player of the Year, Wigan star Gildart was keen to come to the Tigers next season.

Tigers recruitment manager Dave Warwick even checked out his form on a recent trip to the UK - but the club decided they are better off with Marsters.

Centre was shaping as a real problem for the Tigers this year following the loss of both Moses Suili and Taane Milne.

But Marsters has stepped up to the plate and is playing as well as any centre in the competition.

Don't you need 2 centres - i'm guessing someone else is already in the mix.

He's being paid fullback money to play on the wing the Sharks which he isn't thrilled about apparently.

Flanno wont keep him they have that young kid comming back from the broken jaw as soon as he is ready Holmes will get a release this will be the second time the Tigers have gone after Holmes Flanno needs to buy forwards

Young kid… Sione Katoa.
Speedster and future super star.

Yeah we should be chasing him as well given he's off contract. For the price you'd pay for Valentine Holmes you could in theory get Katoa + Meaney + a fair bit of change left over. There's no guarantees with up and comers like Meaney and Katoa but they've both shown enough (and are old enough) that one or both are likely to turn out good first graders. With Holmes you're paying a big premium for his international status which is as a winger, not a fullback.

Might as well pursue all options…

I agree

So let me get this straight, we've signed:

Valentine Holmes
Nick Meaney
Curtis Rona
Oliver Clark
Jai Field

Is that right? Should be a good week.

yep. that's correct. We've scratch Josh Mansour off the list.

And scratch the pommy Gildart as we have Kev but add the pommy hooker/backrower from Castleford - have we missed anyone

I have learnt not to become involved with talk of players signing just always disappointing when it does not happen ..hopefully soon the club will sign someone of note that we can get excited about.

Knowing that Tigers have the coin and spots to fill in the roster player agents would be foolish not to link their players to us. The next month might get pretty busy on here.

How about Shannon Boyd from Canberra .. should we make a play for him .. ??

Representative prop Shannon Boyd is almost certain to quit the Raiders next season and move to a Sydney club.

I’m hearing that Boyd, who is off contract at the end of the season, has rejected the Raiders’ offer to extend his stay at the club.

The former Test prop is in hot demand and with Junior Paulo also set to leave the Raiders for Parramatta next season, Canberra face the prospect of losing two of their biggest bodies.

Several Sydney clubs - and also the Cowboys - are believed to be in the hunt for Boyd, who played four times for Australia in 2016.

The Raiders have lost a host of their best players to big spending clubs over the years and are keen to keep Boyd, a local junior from Goulburn.

At 25, he is approaching his peak as a front-rower and unless the Raiders can come up with a better offer in a hurry, he will be lost to them.

He's done nothing the last couple of years…

Hasn't he already signed with the Titans for next year ????

May be, there was talk Wallace would go back to the Bronco's, so you never know

So I am guessing that we will sign 2 of these players:
Oliver Clarke
Adam Milner
Nick Meany

And one of these players:
Valentine Holmes
Curtis Rona
Josh Mansour
Ben Barba
Israel Folau

Yeah I don't know about Boyd. When he and Vaughan first came on the scene I thought he was the better prop of the two, but Vaughan is the one that has gone from strength to strength, while Boyd has just faded away somewhat. Maybe a change of club will do him good like it has for Vaughan? Age is on his side also, so could be worth a shot if he's interested in coming to Sydney. He's certInly a big body!

Boyd is a Russel Packer waiting to happen. Just needs the right environment and coach.

Come on down . . . .

Israel Folau would be the ultimate purchase imo. Was watching some vids on him today, world class player wouldn’t mind tigers to pay a mil for him

Really? Wow. Based on random rumours over the past 12 months. Bit of a stretch don't you think?
