Ponga played semi final footy and proved his worth at NQC
Cowboys were stuck like we were with Tedesco /Canberra situation , a club was prepared to pay marquee money for potential ,
Meaney hasn't played a game of NRL , bit different , don't you think ??
He'd played maybe a couple of games on the wing, nothing you could take to the bank. He also cost a whole lot more for Newcastle than it would cost to get Meaney - the risk was much higher with Ponga. Of course Meaney won't inevitably pan out but at the likely cost he's definitely a risk worth taking.
Guess you have to big risks after 3 wooden spoons , I didn't have many doubts about Ponga making it , bit like watching our ex fullback in NYC
