Holmes before 30th.

Was at Hunter Valley Vineyards yesterday for LLL spotted a former Fijian born NRL centre, asked him straight up,” what’s Kev up too”, he said “Super League”, what’s in it for the Tigers ? I asked , he said “ winger from Cronulla”, make of it what you want coz his eyes were rolling in different directions and that was all he said before his girl dragged him away

Wouldn't of been his brother Wes, was it?

The surname was tattooed on his neck.

Did it say i'm with stupid by any chance?

What are you hearing?

He's hearing crickets, like the rest of us

Wes he under the influence?

Also interesting to hear that Paul Green wants to keep Morgan at fullback. Maybe more cred to the Holmes here before end June rumour.

Who knows?

Cronulla chasing another full-back and as such Val Holmes sees a reduced opportunity at full-back with the Sharks. A slap in the face and he is clearly on the move. We have the cap so let's go.

Yeah and flanigan comments were interesting first of all basically confirmed barba coming back to sharks and said its okay dugan can play centre. No mention of val holmes as a full back or at all.

Exactly, meant to post the same observation

He looked good at 1 in my opinion

As I said in another thread TMM isn't the answer as Thurston's partner though …..

Don't think Laybutt is the answer just yet , kid has talent , but in the same boat as our Tyson Gamble

Val Holmes, Rona and Kelly …. yes please. And how about bringing Garner into the 30\. Bailey Siro is looking good in the ISP - but we need backs

We're not getting Rona.

Mbye is a solid player but I don’t think he improves the team much. Thompson is the better fullback this year which, is a more important position. Moving Thompson to the wing in place of MWZ or Nofa improves our wingers but by how much.

I don’t see the real point of Mbye unless he’s coming very heavily subsidised on the cheap.

correct, our problem is not FB :bash Our biggest issues are 2nd rowers and another aggressive prop in the mould of Nafa, A Paasi, Boyd or Fonua-Blake.

Not sure I totally agree with this.

Sure, I think Thompson is doing a great job at the back ( particularly positionally & defensively) and I agree that our problem isn't particularly fullback, but I think our problem is in part penetration from our backs. We lack genuine pace, footwork and firepower in the backs and as a consequence we struggle to score points and we struggle to find a way to pull an opposition defence apart.

As a consequence of this we are forced to smash through the middle more and I feel that in part due to our lack of penetration in the backs our forwards are bearing a bigger burden.

At the moment we are playing to our strengths and minimising our weakness. we would be a better balanced side with more strikepower in the backs.

Ahh …Shane Flannagan talking like a coach who is not letting Val Holmes go anywhere..
Either he has no idea what is happening or someone is eating too much fairy dust.

He just said he is a good fullback and a better winger , said he was a true footballer

I don't know you talk up someone your possibly releasing , can come back to bite you , especially with the fans

x2 .. I too think we need at least 1 (if not 2) hard hitting, hard running back rower/s and a quality meter making front rower. It's so easy to let our smallish fast backs carve up the opposition once our forward pack has punched holes and marching forward against a weakening defensive line. To put in other terms, the rear wheels on a truck can't move forward unless you have a big engine up front doing all the work ..

Its hard to know how Cleary would play it if we signed both but perhaps.

1\. Holmes
3\. Mybe

The fact it looks like we are losing Naiqama means he must be thinking centre somewhere. Our centre stocks would be Fonua, Marsters, MCK. With Lawrence and McQueen who are backrowers who have played there. Would need reinforcements.

Is Mbye big enough for centre? Defensively sound enough?

Surely Fonua goes straight there. We have PLENTY of wing depth, particularly if we got a new FB.

If I had to choose between Barba, Holmes and Mbye. Short term it would be Barba(1-2 years) but if I was looking at 3+ years it would be Holmes or Mbye.

All would add something instantly to the team but I feel like Barba is a risk and around his peak or just past it and the other are improving and could be anything with the coaching from 2 gun fullbacks Cleary and Hodgo.

Our speed is a major problem though
