What was said?

Barba a great player but Tigers not interested. Looking to recruit 5 players for 2019 Centre, Edge, Fullback, Prop and utility.
Asked if they’d signed Mbye and his response was we are in the market for good players.
Sounds to me it’s a done deal.

His response to Barba was interesting loves him as a player but said words to the effect his not the player for us at the moment.
It sounds WT are looking at high character signings which are value for money.

My take was we won’t sign any big names just astute signings.

Based on this Mbye, Brian Kelly are the only two rumours that fit what Kelly Egan was talking about. Also said they will be respectful with Benji likely to be sorted out next 6 weeks if he plays on sounds unlikely.

I have posted before but Barba/Holmes is nonsense Im VERY reliably informed if Barba leaves its to the Sharks and Holmes won’t leave or be released.

Leeson Ah Mau, Mitchell Allgood, Tyrone Amey, Oliver Clark, Kurt Dillon, Tino Fa'asuamaleaui, JJ Felise, David Gower, Tim Grant, Keegan Hipgrave, Sam Hoare, Jeremy Latimore, Vincent Leuluai, Jacob Lillyman, Matthew Lodge, Dunamis Lui, Suaia Matagi, Thomas Mikaele, Kayleb Milne, Francis Molo, Frank-Paul Nu'uausala, Korbin Sims, Patrick Sipley, Jack Stockwell, Sam Tagataese, Peni Terepo, Lachlan Timms, Siosaia Vave, Eloni Vunakece .

There’d be others who aren’t getting game time at other clubs that might become available too . For instance one we were linked to last year was Morgan Boyle at the Titans . They’ve just signed Shannon Boyd to a big deal so might not need him anymore .

I think we really only need a Edge/2nd row and maybe an impact Prop. Impact props are hard to find, would like Taupau but don't think Manly would let him go.

We need 1 outside back. We have Marsters and Fonua who can play center, Tui and Thompson who can play fullback and 2 wingers. 1 more outside back then let our juniors apply pressure. Would rather sign one Great back then 3 mediocre ones again.

I am glad we are passing on Barba. He can take a team to the finals but he isn't settled and could ruin a team that is building. Give him to a team that can take him dropping out, sure. Not us

So from listerning you reckon Mbye is a done deal.

Sounds that way as he shot down the Barba rumour but didn’t do the same with Mbye. It’s always tricky with a release though.

Would you be happy with the capture of Mbye?

Initially no. But at 500k p.a. For 3 years it’s a smart play. He’s 24 has time to grow under a good coach, fast and looks to have a good head on his shoulders. I thought we’d throw big money at an edge back rower as I can live with Thompson at fullback.

I think a lot of our recruitment moving forward depends on just how serious and confident we are on signing Nathan Cleary. Him and Brooks could be absolutely lethal but he’d command massive dollars. If Cleary’s the long term goal behind closed doors I’d hate to be managing the cap. I’d imagine it’d be a huge risk to be working the future cap around the chance of signing Cleary.

I really hope that Ethan Lowe is being considered at as a backrow option. Big, tough, plays 80mins and can kick at over 80%.

Taupau and Klemmer would add to the pack big time and with Manly and Dog’s cap troubles you never know.

Mbye is a risk. Similar to Tui in the sense that he’s not an experienced fullback. Has that X-factor and speed, but whether he can offer more than Tui/Thompson, I’m not too sure. If the Dogs are chipping in a decent chunk of his salary he could be worth the risk.

There’s some other good options out there in the backs and forwards. Rhyse Martin, Oates, Pangai-Junior, Su’a, Gela-Mosby, Meaney, Kelly.
