Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

There's not as much change as there appears on the playing side of things - and I think people have the right to be uneasy about the process given how bungled it's been thus far.

Breaking it down further:
Head coach: change should have come at the end of last year when it was obvious to all and sundry that it wasn't working (see: 0-38 against a woeful CB in the last round).
Once we finally did make a change this year, we publicly approached a single candidate only for him to pass just as publicly. We then appointed the guy who was tasked to lead the recruitment, who hasn't coached in the NRL for 10 years.
Hartigan: rightfully dismissed given his record, replaced by Sheens. Role is now vacant given Sheens has had to shift offices and coach.
Also rescued McDonnell from his real estate career to get back in the recruitment game, despite dismal returns on his first go around over a decade ago.
Coaching staff/high performance etc: seems we are making changes here across the board but obviously nothing will come out officially until the summer. A good thing, no doubt - provided we get the appointments right.
Pathways: finally we've realised that this area needs nurturing, with Betsey and co being introduced. The system and roles still seem rather opaque and it'd be good to get some further clarity on the structure, but that'd be asking too much given the pitiful nature of our comms team.
Playing staff: the big one. Two great signings coming aboard, but outside of that things are pretty worrying given we only
have three spots left in our '23 top 30. Good to give some kids an opportunity, but swapping the likes of Jimmy Roberts for Tristan Reilly isn't going to shift our prospects.
Since the Sheens announcement we've re-signed three painfully average centres, one of which (To'a) was the worst amongst a pitiful lot last night.
We look extremely weak up front: we have one senior edge forward signed for next season, and our best middle from this season (Joffa) is unsigned.
Our halves are in total flux and are all off contract by the end of '23.
Backs are completely devoid of quality. Our one potentially good winger has attitude problems and was given away to one of the competition heavyweights for free and is already succeeding. A plethora of average misfits in the centres. A small but somewhat promising FB that is miles away from being a consistent performer.

Like you, and most, I am expecting (hoping?) that there'll be a fair bit of movement of contracted players in and out over the summer, but I'm also expecting that we'll get most of the important decisions wrong, given the track record of all involved.

tl/dr: everything's a mess, we're doomed

What are you basing this on your thoughts and opinions?

All the need for something new is doing nothing but a constant repeatative post from most on here. I read alot but don't post often. Nothing can be annouced till Nov 1 so just get over it till then. POM not posting becuase he knows this also. Sit tight my fellow supporters. The good will come.

Does that mean the signings are for 2024?

Well we are stuck with a few, but there is a few we can get rid of at the end of this season, its a two or three year thing. Wether people like to think about things, I liked Madge, but like Ivan, they both purchased a lot of shit players, and its left us on board a sinking ship.

The difference is Ivan had money and wasted it on players who didn't even try to play to their salary, Madge inherited Ivan's overpaid under achievers for the majority of his term leaving him little cap to work with but he still managed to get Paps and Api to the club for next year who are probably our best signings since Ellis

BREAKING: The NRL has announced that the Wests TIgers are now officially the feeder club for any Finals Bound team desperate for players

Mate it’s our new business model based on Go Get. We now make our cash out of short term leases. You can lease a player from us by the hour or by the day or even season. We offer all types of players, some old, some new, the Odd semi quality player, but our specialty is the busted budget player. He is the player that can plug a gap in a quality roster and get a job done once every four games.

We might have a mortgage on the spoon for the next decade, but the bank balance will be in good shape thanks to the innovative planning by the power brokers at camp Concord

Lee Hagipantelis can he be voted out as chairman? Don’t think he as added anything of value to the club and when he talks on SEN it’s just cringe

This makes no sense. The salary cap is per year. You can't spend less this year and carry it over.

It'd be good if it was true but it don't think it is.

Lee meeting Sheens is a good one. They appointed Sheens to the role and let him do his thing. Are they going to sack him now.

I think the theory is you’d pay money that you are going to pay a player next year, this year. Say if Laurie is due to be paid $600k in 2023, you pay him $200k of it this year and the other $400k next year. Effectively you now have another $200k to spend next year now.
