We want players to be happy to play the game or with a team, not to be forced into something that they emotionally cannot commit to.
I understand it opens up a grey area with contracts but in reality it shouldn’t scrap the idea of contracts and the require to honour them at all. It should just make the NRL adjust their logic over an off contract player is one that is unsigned for the following season.
The majority of squad changes occur with the movement of contracted players. So what’s the point of waiting til the final year to deem them as off contract?
