Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

He was quick between his ears.
Find me a player with the equivalent to Stuart’s kicking game and you’d make Sheens a happy man. All went down hill since the kicking genius Prince left the club as Benji and those that followed never could compare. Bombs away Doueihi, hesitant Brooks and lobbing Hastings are far away from what we need from a number 7s kicking arsenal even if we combined all three in to the one player.
(Which coincidently is what our coaching staff is planning by spreading the 3 players out in all the attacking positions in the 13.)

Aren't all these quality juniors all 16 -18 years old cant see where that impacts 2023
Re the older ones in cup or flegg . Note Matamua cost 2 games this year by not knowing the rules but I think he will be much better next year
Almost half our top 27 are completely unproven at 1st grade for example
Fianu ,Reilly , Tumeth
Also some have played a few 1st grade games but not with much success

You are right. I'm hopeful we get another couple coming through that can prove themselves first graders. I think it's a concern though that two of the juniors that look likely in Matamum and the Queensland kid are both locks and we are also looking to play Hastings at lock.

This may be the case but this side needs to learn aggression (Klemmer) and attitude/ will to win (Bateman). We are a powder puff side at present. Wouldn’t scare most NSW Cup teams.

I have massive problems with these types of comments. Those character traits are awesome but my 11 yo son is a competitive fighter. He'd bring those traits to the game. He'd also get smashed.

Kleemer can play but he isn't a rep quality prop right now and it all depends on cost. Bateman apparently isn't performing in the ESL and he would cost a lot of money.

Are these guys good enough for us ? Tamou had all of these character traits that we supposedly require and would have cost a lot less.

This is exactly the same stuff that got said when we signed Tamou re leadership, attitude etc. We need players who are good now, not ones who used to be good and have magical abilities to transfer their mental skills to others.

I just said the same thing. This line of argument has been proven wrong over and over and over and over .... again.

I want guys who can rip and tear and don't cost too much and if they cost a fortune then I expect guys like IP.

It's still a mill and change out of the pocket. You can't justify he's worth that.

It's a problem but not a big deal. It's only a problem for next season. I don't have a massive problem with his salary over the course of his career and he has consistently been on the park and consistently been one of our best players.

The issue is he hasn't been good enough to get us to the finals. Neither was Tedesco.

Let’s be fair, Matamua ran exactly the same line as Kickau did, Moses just managed to make his dive more effective in his game vs us.

The funny thing is Brooks is our best kicker. He has the best long kicking game plus a decent short kicking game plus the ability to put it up for guys who can jump for it.

Hastings is better with shorter kicks closer to the line but it's close. Doueihi's bombs are great but inconsistent.

Brooks isn't a great general kicker either but he isn't that bad.

I don't believe there is any reason for concern if Matumua and Faagutu are pushing for the 13 jersey in the near or medium future.

Teddy had the talent but all we seemed to do was throw him the ball and expect magic. The only issue I have with Luke is we've been throwing him rep halfback money for no results. Whether that's him or the team or the coaches fault bears no input. Only fall guys are the coach and the play makers.
We either build the team around him, or let him go.
Imo the decision should have been made years ago.

He's obviously got talent, but it's been wasted at the tigers.
I think the club should have parted ways a few years back with him. I don't have a hate brooks agenda, I respect and love every player who has worn a tigers jersey in battle, except anasta. He can get [This word has been automatically removed]ed

Which is why it’s funny hearing people ask for Hastings to go back to 7. He kicked the ball probably 1/4 of the time Brooks did when he was alongside him.
My personal opinion is Doueihi could be our best kicker has the leg strength, ability to position himself in the line to kick but he is just too inconsistent, and then there is that feeling that he would just make such a good centre if he really truely focused on that.
Brooks did nail a lot of his close attacking lobs for the edges last season. Either way neither of them have the ability to play on the back foot but at the same time neither does Moses (as we saw in his GF game).
Be interesting to see how they go in the World Cup. I’m also curious to see if Doueihi gave up his favoured right side for Moses because we all saw how crap Parramatta were when Arthur switched he and browns sides in 2021.

I thought that there was talk about Prince wanting to join our coaching staff.
He said that he would love to work under Sheens again, I don’t know if it was true or just a rumour.
