Easiest way to see what will appen is to offer Ivan a 2 year extension at the end of this year so we have him for 2019 , 2020 , 2021 , 2022 , that's 4 years and if Nathan wants to play with his farther it will be in this time slot I think

Hyperbole with a capital H this is.

Great idea. Lets extend the contract of a coach whose still contracted for 2 more years, for another 2 years on top of that, despite having done nothing to warrant an extension, just incase he might go somewhere else and take his son with him. Only saving grace is Ivan is that good of a guy, i don't think he would feel good taking advantage of such stupidity.

Remember when Tim Sheens was here and he had a big offer from Penrith? We were spooked into offering Sheens a new 4 year contract and how did that work out? We ended up having to sack him before his contract expired.

Cleary is here for another 2.5 years and none of us know what will happen at that time. I really hope the club just sticks by Ivan's contract and doesn't go for the big knee jerk.

The roster question was always going to be a process over time. Ivan has freely and often expressed the fact that certain players are stop-gap players for now but not necessarily for the future - it is an evolving thing and he will always be looking to improve the roster over time. At the moment he seems to be clearing some space. Not including the pre 30 June movements of JJF, and MM, we are now losing MWZ, Grant and Kev. (Anyone else I've forgotten??).

There's also a few off contract that could be moved on such as Godinet and Sue as well as Robbie and Benji who both may retire at the end of this season. That is potentially 7 of the top 30 so far.

Up to 7 quality players could make a pretty big difference - the question is, are there 7 out there that would want to join us and that we can afford??

I understand what you are saying but the players you have named are not on "quality player" money, so I think we'd find it difficult to bring in 7 quality players as replacements. Still, I wish….......................

Have a feeling we could make a move for Michael Jennings if Parra release him, As i said though just a feeling.

Jennings has the next two seasons as option in his favour, doubt he’d leave

Talk about desperate this kind of signing is exactly the reason the Tigers will NEVER make a final series!!

Can’t we be interested in the Morris boys instead? Sure both would come for about 350, 400 each for 2 years. Good value in that.
Don’t we have the left side available now that our current starting Left Winger and Centre are leaving?..,

No more pensioners/geriatrics

If we were lucky enough, Nathan may come here then there’d be no doubt that Ivan would stay.
But seriously , is there ONE person in this forum , that actually believes that a parent of a top young footballer would advise their son to come to WTs as we are at this moment?
Except if that person could see a major overhaul of most things involving the club,
Such an overhaul, as far as players are concerned, has been complicated by the purchase of a group of players that in most cases isn’t any better than those who were already here. But will still soak up cap space unless they can be persuaded to go.
But , who would take them?

Ivan is In the position to see what the future looks like here, (unlike us), and unless he can see some real furure here, he could only have one thing to say to Nathan , and that would be to go to the Roosters or Broncos , or any of the other top teams,(or Stay at Penrith)

I really don’t know one father that would say any different
And as far as I can see, I still can’t see any evidence that we can attract the type of players that would be needed to attract a player like Nathan,

Absolutely I can see IC bringing his son to this club. He knows the club will be alright because he himself is fixing it.

In my mind, if IC doesn't get his son here, he doesn't have the confidence in us, and thus no confidence in the job he is doing, then IC should pack and go elsewhere. Staying at Penrith would be the only other result I could stomach for NC, but if he leaves and goes anywhere but here, IC can't even attract his own son so what chance does that give us in attracting anyone else?

He may have confidence in what HE can do, but have no confidence that the club can get rid of its inability to attract who we want.
If Nathan goes somewhere else ; I’d say it will be because it’s the best thing for his career and no other reason .
From I’ve seen of NC and his Dad,
if Ivan doesn’t think that WTs is the best fit his son, I’m sure he would advise him that way, that’s between them not us,
If most of us were in the same position, I would hope that they would put their son first and then get back to doing his best for WTs while he’s contracted here,
There’s one big fact that seems to have been missed.!
No one has confirmed that ANYONE is going ANYWHERE ,

Exactly
Not sure about “never” though
But our obsession with being a retirement home , doesn’t help.

The beauty of the Tigers signing Nathan Cleary is that Ivan will know if it's going to happen and can plan accordingly. Equally he knows if it's not and can get on with it and ignore the speculation.

Haha Jennings. He's dropped to reserve grade so let's snap him up. I really hate this thinking were by we try and recruit players that we give the benefit of the doubt too. 'Oh he's a great player but he's not getting a good go there', ' he's playing out of position but he'll be better if he came here', ' he's been injured but he can still find his best'…

How about we recruit players who are in top form. Not players who are that badly out of form they get dropped to reserve grade

We just dont even seem to be in the race if you listen to the media in regard to the Clearys. Broncos and Roosters both going to offer whatever it takes, and you cant discount Gould/Panthers.
We dont even get a mention.

Which is the disheartening part. Might well be looking for a new coach yet again.

SIGH! You guys just kill me. Swallow another fish!

Meaning what?. Its inconceivable that those clubs would be after the Cleary's and have the means to do it?
Or the fact that we continue to be considered a club that cant attract quality players?

Because players in top form have options and at this point we are not considered a good one.

350k/400k max would be alright. I'm concerned they might be chasing around 600k each which would be too much considering probable injury.

But at 350 each for 2 years, we could do a lot worse. Better than what we had. Then in 2 years we could upgrade again.

Just injury risk.

I know a lot of supports are tired of waiting but realistically 2020 is the year Wests will be pushing for a finals spot. IC trying to build a solid team and hopefully adds a few rep players to the roster in 2020 for a push at a finals spot. I believe this is the plan anyway.

It is very interesting reading the responses from the media story. Perhaps it is worthwhile to mention a few facts:

1) Ivan is at the start of a rebuilding process. Although his record is good, realistically, he hasn't achieved anything as yet at the Tigers. In an interview, he said we are a 3-5 year project, I believe the Broncos will want a top coach with a recent, proven track record. They were recently after Bellamy and I feel there is a bit of a gap between Bellamy and Cleary given their records.
\
\
2) To my mind, Nathan Cleary is still a _potential_ superstar. He hasn't really owned the competition and by his own admission is still coming to grips with the origin arena. There have been many that have shown star potential at an early age and plateaued. For halfbacks I would say Brett Finch, Pearce and even our own Brooks are examples of this. Very good first grade players but not JT or Johns.
\
\
3) Package deals like this can end in tears. As we know, coaches come and go and having your marquee player the son of the coach could be risky if sustained success is not forthcoming. Especially at a place like the Broncos who expect to win.

There may be some truth to the rumour however I think It is a substantial gamble on the Bronco's behalf to sign them both given that they still have a bit to prove.

Broncs should make a play for robinson.
