I think it might be time to consider Brooks & Wakeham as the ongoing halves combination.

It's a shame Wakeham is so slow. I can't believe how slow he is. Put some speed into him and he becomes a threat, but as it stands I think he remains a good back up in an ideal world.

Ideally- yes. But I'm not seeing a lot of available options to replace him with. In the right set-up, he can play the Cliff Lyons type role- running across the line looking for line runners. Unfortunately, if there is one real weakness right now, it's that we are poor at line running with our back row & centres. Talau started to do it a bit, and Naden does offer that ability. Ice SHOULD be that guy. Bateman & To'a try to beat players with footwork- not really line runners. Play Wakeham on Ice & Naden's side, Brooks on Bateman & To'a's. Maybe?

I think these two and trying to develop a couple of halves over the next couple of seasons is our best bet.

I reckon he is slow. He is also a great goal kicker and defender and he can still create something. Ideally we'd have someone who threatens more but I don't see a realistic option who is going to be much better.

Especially for the money. We are getting excellent value from Wakeham for what is likely to be a close to minimum value contract.

I can't get over how good he has been for a guy that didn't have a contract anywhere really late in the pre-season.

Deserves a massive wrap.

Yeah he's slow but he's been pretty decent tbf goal kicking as you mentioned is a plus, i think he's earned another contract probably a modest upgrade even.

JWH is actually one of the nicest, softly spoken and friendliest players out there. He is very good with the public. See him all the time at Balmoral

Even before he did the latest injury , he didn’t seem as fast as he was A couple of years ago.
I like Wakehams all round game, other than his lack of speed. When Brooks made that break late in last nights game and passed to Wakeham I knew he would get cut down early.
