Lawrence retirement? You’re having a laugh.

Exactly what I was thinking he's just 30.
Had his best season sense switching to the secondrow.

I suppose the question is this

His age is 30

Is his body still 30 ??

Going on this year yes.

I agree , but players that play in Rowdy's style tend to go downhill quickly

As I said though in the next post , he deserves at the very least a 2 year deal ,with a year in our favour option

I'm slow I didn't read your next post I just seen the one you replied to.
I'm old gotta give me break.

I get all the love for Chris - really I do…… He's part of the furniture.
This year, He's had his best season in forever.
Great clubman and all that - Although I never really remember if any other club ever chased him
(Maybe back in 09-10 When we let Collis go)

Fact is - I'd be surprised if he's not in the bottom 4 starting second rowers in the game...
And he's our "best"? - I see that as a real issue...
Signing him for a few more years (At whatever cost) is more so an issue... Not for the money - But the spot he takes.
We're very short on quality in that area - Matterson fixes that to an extent.
I'm very excited about his signing - People forget he was a half a couple years ago... He's been solid in the second row and will certainly bring a bit of footy to the edge. We have one of the Better halves in thre game - And the poor bugger has never had any real class either side of him - yet we wonder why he struggles.

Get some powerful second rowers and please don't forget a strike centre or 2 (for the 9th year running)

Josh Aloiai, (this is make or break year for him so?)
Luke Brooks, (sign him now)
Michael Chee-Kam, (expendable)
Robbie Farah, (retirement)
Mahe Fonua, (back to ESL)
Tyson Gamble, (doubt that he has it but dependent on his 2019 performance)
Luke Garner, (this one could go either way)
Chris Lawrence, (retirement)
Jacob Liddle, (this is make or break year for him so?)
Benji Marshall, (retirement)
Sam McIntyre, (doubt that he has it but dependent on his 2019 performance)
Thomas Mikaele, (I would resign him now)
Robbie Rochow, (retirement)
Dylan Smith, (work in progress I would resign him on a short term contract)
Corey Thompson (he is good but age is catching up …. maybe short term extension)
I think you can add McQueen to that list as I think he will be shipped or shopped out.

Lawrence retirement? You’re having a laugh.

Well he is getting close. Will be 31 at this time next year.
No argument that he is playing well but if he stays healthy and is happy to stay on $s he is currently on than maybe an extension. But know that Sheens has been after him to switch to his ESL side Hull Kingston Rover on good money.
So retirement to ESL possible.

Lawrence is basically free for cap purposes as he recieves the long serving player allowance…may have changed a little with the return of Farah and Marshall as they each had more than 8 consecutive seasons but may not qualify as they left and returned

Give me Rowdy for free any day...

Turns 22 next week. Debuted in 2016 with one game (which the NRL had to give permission for). Did his left shoulder in pre-season of 2017, but played 13 games before doing his right shoulder and having both shoulders reconstructed, meaning a 7 month rehab and no preseason. Ended up playing 13 games last year, though was wasted in the backend when only getting 20 minutes behind Robbie.

He may end up like other coulda, woulda juniors like Tedesco (28 games in 1st 3 seasons 1,19,8), Farah (34 games 1st 3 seasons 4,3,27) or Marshall (38 games first 3 seasons 4,7,27).

A lot of young players have injuries when asked to play big minutes against seasoned professionals before their bodies are ready.

I dont always agree with you Harvey but you are 100% correct on this,i **will never understand how supporters can write off young players early because their body is still adjusting to the rigours of first grade.**

X2

Blake Lazarus
Jacob Miller
Pat Politoni
Matt Groat
Nathan Waters
Manaia Cherrington
Shannon Gallant
Kurtis Rowe
Curtis Sironen

That's why.

Every single club has a list like that, it's got nothing to do with Tigers, but a fact that a very small % of junior footballers ever have a long-term NRL career.

So if you write one kid off, write them all off, because on average you will be correct.

Who is better than him ? On the left edge I'd have Kikau, Wade Graham (pretty close) & Tariq Sims (pretty close). I see Lawrence as one of the better edge second rowers in the game at the moment. He runs great lines with speed and power on that left edge and he makes his tackles most of the time.

He was probably our best forward last year and he is no plodder. Plus he is a good guy.

I get the suggestion that Pascoe was in NZ recruiting a new player , not coach

Any word on that ??

Hopefully a big, fast outside back

Such as?

I suppose when you think of it , it could have been any Tongan ,Australian or Warriors player ….....possibly even a player gone back home to NZ ........the list gets bigger and bigger

Still waiting to hear if it was even the case ........

One in every bunch…
I havent put much thought into which edge, just back rowers in general...
But at a quick guess - If i'm thinking left edges.... Boyd Cordner, Joel Thompson comes to mind, as does Gavin Cooper... John Sutton, Tohu Harris, Tapine - Blokes like Gillett and Aubusson (played both) even Fellas like Ma'u, Glenn, Hoffman and Guerra are on par with him...

I get the loyalty and all that - I really do..... But loyalty don't equal numbers.

You'd be the only guy i've ever heard of have Wade Graham, Tariq Sims and Chris Lawrence there or there abouts on par...

After next season Chris should be looking at moving into the front office this is where his real ability can be used by the club ..as one has posted is his body 30years old IMO not by a long shot.

Alex Glenn is extremely underrated

When he doesn't play the Broncos defensively look very vulnerable and the score lines usually back that up

Look at the Saints semi as an example

Seeing the stories in todays paper about Benji wanting to reach 300 games, and thinking he is going to play on in 2020 have me worried.
These words were from Benji, not a journo, gee we are in trouble if Benji is our starting 6 next season, let alone 2020

I didnt see the quote but he would be halucinating if he really believes that he would be a first grade player in 2020.

I don't think that's the role of the CEO

Either did I but someone suggested it and if we don't have a coach I guess someone with some clout at the club has to get a signing across the line ….....

I think that basically every player you mention is on par or worse than Lawrence. There are areas within our team that we need to improve on but I don't see that position as being a problem.

I know sometimes that fans overrate certain players but I also think that fans underrate certain players. Brooks is a guy who has been underrated for a while and Lawrence is another that fits that category. You see Tariq Sims play a great game and forget when Lawrence played a great game. Tariq Sims isn't consistently great. If you were talking about Frizzel that is a different story. Frizzel is a gun. Lawrence isn't in Frizzel's class but he is probably the best edge backrower in the game.

Wests Tigers may as well quit being an NRL team and just join the Masters Rugby League comp if that happens.
