Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Sam had a good season but he’s a rookie and still has plenty of developing to do. The club has salary cap issues are and targeting much higher level players so they’d be silly to offer Sam anything too high.

If they’re smart they give him A two year deal with a decent upgrade in 2022.

I can’t say that i am a fan of Huth , when was the last time he made a line break , or anytime for that matter , he is big enough to pull a bull out of the crap but don’t play anything like that

When was the last time any of our middle forwards made a line break outside of Aloiai?

McIntyre for a try off the bench in the middle

Heard anything on his re-signing?

No signing yet. They are offering peanuts at this stage
Less money than this year and he is only just above minimum wage at the moment .
So hopefully they can get something sorted because there are a couple of clubs keen as!

I get the tactic re salary cap management but surely McIntrye is worth a contract the same or slightly increased from his previous.
The tigers have roughly 1.4 available 2022 year from Reynolds and Packer moving on (replaced with min wage players.)
Surely we can backload a couple of the players for 2022 if we are short cap space in 2021.

I know we're rebuilding, and have big salary cap issues, but if we unearth really good youngsters on low money, and can't even keep them, well then we will never improve.

We've been left in this position by poor buys, most from IC but one from the current management. I really cannot understand how we haven't learnt from Packer and Reynolds?

I doubt it. It literally makes no sense - he went from a depth player to being in the top 17 and has improved a lot.

They would know if they offered him less he would go somewhere else it just makes no sense unless they really are that stupid and our salary cap is that tight

Give him the same or slightly more in 2021 and upgrade him in 2022 when we have the cap

The best solution to keeping Sam a WT would be to offload Garner to Manly.

Thats really hard to believe. Given how solid he has been this season, it doesn't make any sense to offer less.

if we offload Garner we can keep Sam, we can't pay overs for players Sam is great but we need him at the right price.
Worse comes to worse we still have twal who can play lock and i dont agree with it but we have seafarer too. We get in trouble when we pay bug money for unproven talent.

if we can move on Liddle and Sam Mcintyre what will that free up $500k ?
We can have a good crack at a B Smith or Harry with that

“I don’t want to say too much about what went on, but the Tigers deal was not as high as other clubs.”

Cannot recall another player talking crap like this.

Well, I imagine the discussions with the Tigers would have been done by his manager, not the player. So, who knows what the manager told him the offer from the Tigers was? He may well be stating the truth as told to him by his manager.

And, lets face it, apart from Kent, Hooper, Rothfield, Ikin and the so-called "journos" of NRL, there is no bigger blight on the game than player managers.

Nothing wrong with Ikin, Kent, Hooper, Toovey and Benji on 360. The dribblers on 9 are getting money under false pretences.

Toovey and Benji have some credibilty through their on-field careers and achievements. I don't have issues with them.

It's the professional NRL-nuffie "journalists" such as Kent and Rothfield and Hooper, who seem more intent on wanting us to believe "I know better than the others", that I despise. With a passion. Add Michael Chammas and his cringeworthy support for Benji and ongoing bagging of WT to that list as well.

Collectivey, I see them as a scourge on the best interests and future of the game, in my opinion.

As for the Ch 9 mob .....? I haven't watched any of their NRL coverage or shows in about the last 5 years so I can't comment. No matter how keen I am for a footy fix, if Ch 9 is the only option, I go without. So I don't watch the GF or SOO. Couldn't care less.

Kent did actually play - he also played 1 game in first grade, something most of us on here have never done.

Well that entitles him to be a smarmy opportunist then, doesn't it? I think if you search far enough Rothfield played in park footy in 1948. So what?? How does one game of first grade give Kent or any other of those nuffies any authority or credibility to earn income in offering their thoughts on the game?

Well seeing he was the back up 7 to Sterling ......he probably learnt from one of the most knowledgable footy players going around

Cheers. Now, *this* would be a lowball offer. It makes no sense to bring this guy in and around the team only to offer him less. If we let him go Pascoe has lost me.

And still need to fill another roster spot. So not as simple as that.

McIntyre will be a real good one, in a year or so. Definitely a keeper IMO.

this is just strange.... We seem to be very quite at the moment regarding recruitment when other clubs are starting to announce resigning etc... It has a real weird feeling and even the @The_Pom isn't around....
When does our 2021 preseason start does anyone know?

It is strange - even the media have stopped linking us with everyone off contract. Maybe because we "lowball" everyone we aren't seen as a viable option anymore.

Maybe all they have is $130k as maybe the rest is tied up in JAC and another mystery player(Grant,Burton Staines??)

Hence the effort to move garner on to free up some cash for him
