SCHUSTER STILL EYEING MANLY EXIT
Josh Schuster and his management have been assured that prodigal son Kieran Foran will play hooker at Manly next season - but do they believe it?

Schuster, the next big thing at Brookvale, was thinking of asking for a release when Foran signed with the Sea Eagles.

The versatile youngster sees himself as a five-eighth rather than centre or lock.

But he knows that in all likelihood, Foran will play in the halves alongside Daly Cherry-Evans next season, dashing his hopes of wearing the No.6 jumper.

Manly coach Des Hasler has attempted to ease his fears by declaring that Foran will play hooker.

Poor kid. He'll only have a further 15 years to play halves in first grade.

And if Foran is ahead of him, let's be honest, then the most Schuster will miss will be a game or two because Kieran is always injured.

Methinks Des has his fingers crossed behind his back...

Or he breaks a leg in two years time and will never play again. Footy is a short career with a massive risk, smartest option for him is to find a club where he can play first grade consistently and earn himself more money and I can’t blame him for that.

I would take Woods back
Tamau and Aloia to start
Woods and Stefano off the bench

I watched Woods closely recently and his play the ball speed is atrociously slow...much worse than when he was here, and he was slow then.

Woods will get you 100-150 a game still, but your halves and hooker will all be impacted negatively by the slower game. A big no from me.

Musgrave has far more upside than woods

What about the other kid who just re signed with Manly who we were apparently talking to..Cust
He has now slipped down the pecking order, maybe he might want out

Would Lodge be a good acquisition to our Roster with Donkeys contributing to his contract for the next 2 years could add the mongrel we're missing.

Lodge in firing line as Kevvie plans to shake up underperforming Broncos roster

Incoming Broncos coach Kevin Walters is set to make some big changes to the roster and prop Matt Lodge is in the firing line.
Walters vowed over the weekend that he will overhaul the club’s culture and hinted a dramatic shake up the playing roster to suit the style of game he plans to coach.

Walters has since told The Daily Telegraph’s Paul Kent that he’ll be looking to move on big names and high earners, with Lodge being one of those that will be looked at.

“There will be some changes next year” he told The Telegraph.

“There will be some big changes too, not just small changes.

“It won’t be player 25 or 26 or 27 being moved on, it will be the other end as well.”

Kent told NRL360 on Monday that he asked Walters specifically about Lodge, to which the former Queensland Origin coach said he will “have a talk to him and then assess it after that.”

It’s a dramatic fall from grace for Lodge.

Axed Brisbane coach Anthony Seibold backed the 25-year-old to be the club’s next captain two seasons ago and earlier this year NSW coach Brad Fittler revealed Lodge was on his radar.

But there’s one small hurdle to overcome if Walters was to move him, or some other big name players on. Lodge re-signed with the Broncos last year on a deal that would keep him at Red Hill until the end of 2022.

The Telegraph’s Phil Rothfield questioned Kent on how the Broncos could pull off the move.

“How does he do that? They’re all under contract,” he said.

“You just go and do it,” Kent responded. “You do what the Warriors did. They went out and they wanted a tough, hard-nosed front-rower. They picked Addin Fonua-Blake but he had two years to go on his contract… did not matter.”

“It’s negotiation, contracts don’t mean anything these days. They don’t mean anything if you can do the negotiating. You’ve got to be clever at that and that’s what the Broncos have got

I don't think he is a good purchase. He has always been a stats player. He gets good metres, he can offload and ball play but in lots of little areas he is a poor player. A slow play the ball plus poor defense.

I think Lodge may be a better option that Woods but I'm not sold on him either. Do we need another prop after signing Tamou and Stefano ?

We don’t need Lodge or Woods, prop is not an area we need to buy more for next year, far more pressing positions to sort

Why is it that Broncos can change their team in a blink, while WT are stuck with seeing out contracts? I f it’s a matter of player quality, how much WT are prepared to pay etc . Then our administration is or has been very poor. And another thing..when players audition for a gig at WT, do they do any physical stress testing? A speed test? Fitness test?

A breathalyzer test, that's all. If they're not drunk enough to sign with us we let them walk away.

Let the clean out begin. Just speculating and some conclusions unconfirmed and without a definite reliable source but here is what I would like to see for next year. If Santa brings just 50% of these toys I’m be happy. So here goes ......

Clearing the decks: My top 10 on 2020 Santa’s Xmas stocking list .....

Santa’s wish 1. Release Moses Mbye with 40% loading (Walters and Holbrook both rate this guy so just a chance?)
Santa’s wish 2. Medical retirement for Russell Packer.
Santa’s wish 3. Josh Reynolds to England Warrington Wolves straight swap for Gareth Widdop.
Santa’s wish 4. Swap Luke Garner for Josh Schuster.
Santa’s wish 5. Billy Walters To Brisbane.
Santa’s wish 6. Release Chee Kam to The Bulldogs.
Santa’s wish 7. Sign Matt Burton..... we should go all out for this guy .... future is as very effective ball playing lock forward).
Santa’s wish 8. Sign Harry Grant to long term contract.
Santa’s wish 9. Sign Charlie Stains from Panthers.
Santa’s wish 10. Sign Aaron Woods on subsidised deal from Cronulla.

Loved the fun of this post (and its intent).
Trouble is, have we been naughty or nice!

More chance of bringing Dally Messenger back from the dead than most of those wishes coming to fruition.

Even the first 4 would be magnificent- with #3 wouldnt care if we didnt get a swap player. Just want him to move on. And #2- let us pray. Dont wish ill on Packer but if he is not right, take the out and go for medical retirement.

NRL: New Bulldogs coach Trent Barret needs to fill three positions on his 2021 roster and Cronulla could have the free agents he needs

Watch the special moment NSW Blues coach Brad Fittler called Zac Lomax to let him know he's in the squad ahead of State of Origin.

Canterbury could target Cronulla free agents Matt Moylan, Josh Dugan and Aaron Woods to help fill its final three roster spots for the 2021 season.
New coach Trent Barrett is targeting a half, a middle forward and an outside back to complete his team.

The Bulldogs are watching the market closely, with a host of clubs set to make decisions on their future rosters in the coming weeks.

Cronulla’s stars Moylan, Dugan, and Woods are all free agents from November 1.

Depending on decisions made by Sharks officials to juggle the salary cap, this could open the door for Canterbury to pounce.

The Bulldogs have also expressed an interest in Penrith young gun Matt Burton, who isn’t off contract until the end of 2021.

Canterbury officials can’t officially negotiate with the Dubbo-born playmaker until he becomes a free agent from November 1 this year.

If Penrith aren’t willing to release Burton, the Bulldogs will have to look at off-contract halves like Drew Hutchison, Jaeman Salmon and Tyrone Roberts.

The Bulldogs’ overhaul under Barrett is well under way with the club parting ways with eight players from this season, including veterans Kieran Foran and Aiden Tolman.

Canterbury have already signed Canberra back Nick Cotric and Manly back-rower Corey Waddell, but the club are still looking to secure three crucial positions.

Canterbury are also keen to secure a prop to form a potent combination with English recruit Luke Thompson.

The Bulldogs could make a play for Brisbane big man Matt Lodge, who is on the outer at the Broncos despite being contracted until the end of 2022.

Canterbury are also in the market for an outside back given the club desperately lacked points in 2020.

The Bulldogs have expressed interest in Brisbane back Jack Bird, who has been dogged by injuries, including a season-ending ACL during the pre-season.

There are also a host of outside backs still without a contract for next season, including Jordan Kahu, Dale Copley, Sandor Earl, Brenko Lee and Gerard Beale.
