Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Lol that clause is insane, can leave after every year? Pfft.

If all of what's being said about the kid is true, it's very unfortunate.

I’m reluctant to just excuse it or simply call it a disgruntled players exaggeration

I think the best approach is to treat comments like the ones you heard exactly as players being upset because they weren't good enough. I spoke to some players a while back. One of them was young Dylan Smith. He told me that it was a cut throat business. Players have to perform and they are going to get disgruntled. This is the big show.

This was around the time the club was borrowing money from the NRL and then Anasta came out publically with similar claims. Point is we are trying to shake off a reputation that has some substance.

When did Wests Tigers borrow money from the NRL..?

$2 million bailout payment in 2014

Balmain borrowed money from the NRL. I don't believe it was the WT debt. In fact didn't WA pay off the NRL on Balmain's behalf ?

as long as we don't bow to all the get-out clauses from his management, I think it's worth a crack. Madge and Hartigan have done some innovative work around contracts in recent past, they might just be able to pull it off again.

Looks like he could be higher maintenance than a trophy wife.

We've had them in the past - no for me.

That’s my understanding as well. The money was never borrowed by the Wests Tigers, there was no bail out needed for our club.

Stopped reading..

Suaali negotiations reminds of our experience way back with Ben Teo - seems like a pain in the proverbial. For all the grief we give clubs for not signing players, what a frustrating process it must be with those who think they are stars before their time. The focus on this kid now could possibly ruin him before he begins. It will be a real test of how good he is wherever he ends up.

It's a no from me as well. Suaalii already seems like he's going to be too much trouble. He obviously has a poor attitude. Thinks he's bigger than the clubs already.

I think he’s got a poor manager rather than attitude. He’s just a kid

Obviously. The only thing obvious is how stupid the comments about it are on here

The article says we haven't even had any discussion with his management as both Madge and Pascoe are away. Could be a ploy to put pressure on JAC. Just letting him know there are other options.

Wests Tigers emerge as contender for Joseph Suaalii as Souths end interest
Boom teenager Joseph Suaalii won’t be at Redfern next season despite being offered a stunning four-year deal worth $1.9m — and rivals are circling.

DEAN RITCHIE, EXCLUSIVE, News Corp Australia Sports Newsroom
Wests Tigers have emerged as a shock contender in the messy chase to sign teenage prodigy Joseph Suaalii.

The Daily Telegraph can reveal Suaalii, 17, has told Souths he does not want to play at Redfern next season, despite being offered a stunning four-year deal worth $1.9 million.

Suaalii’s incredible demands — and a lack of desire to represent the famous club — has ended Souths’ interest in the young star.
There are even suggestions Suaalii has managed to tick off his other main suitor, Rugby Australia.

Suaalii was shopped to the Sydney Roosters and, while there was interest, it appears he could struggle to be squeezed in under the club’s tight salary cap.

While the Roosters are the masters of managing their cap, Suaalii couldn’t play his favourite position at Bondi — fullback — due to the long-term presence of James Tedesco.

Suaalii could also be used as a running five-eighth but the Roosters have Luke Keary locked down.
Wests Tigers coach Michael Maguire has a huge opinion of Suaalii, who has a striking running game in both rugby codes — league and union.

Maguire helped a young Suaalii when the pair were at Souths. Wests Tigers would have the money to lodge an attractive offer and Suaalii could play fullback at Concord.

Several well-placed sources told The Daily Telegraph of Maguire’s strong interest in Suaalii. Maguire and Wests Tigers chief Justin Pascoe are away on leave.

The Tigers haven’t lodged any offer or opened formal discussions but the club’s interest in Suaalii is genuine. A deal could be struck from 2022 when the Tigers’ salary cap has settled.

Rumours circulated on Thursday that Suaalii was close to signing with the Roosters. This was however denied by those close to Suaalii, who has a development contract at Souths next year.
Suaalii is now deemed by clubs as being a “hell of an athlete with an attitude that is all over the place.”

Despite their dislike for the Roosters, Souths would be prepared to release Suaalii to Bondi for 2021, provided the Roosters pay the Rabbitohs a development fee.

Suaalii has told Souths officials he does not want to play at the club next season, despite the Rabbitohs having nurtured the sports prodigy since the age of 13
Even Souths coach Wayne Bennett has seemingly run out of patience with Suaalii, while there is confusion over who is actually representing Suaalii.

While Souths would never admit it publicly, Souths believe Suaalii and his family have disrespected their club.
The only way Suaalii could return to Souths would be by attending pre-season training — after putting contract negotiations on hold — and showing a hunger and desire.

Suaalii — still at school next year — wanted clauses inserted into his contract stating he could leave after each year, a request laughed off by Souths. One rival club, watching the Suaalii drama unfold, fear the kid could be lost to both codes.

Any potential clubs would be wary about the stipulations Suaalii could place on his any future contract.

Thats what it says. Article by Dean Ritchie, probably read on a forum somwehere.

Hmmm he sounds like a bit of a problem child, too wrapped up in his own self importance and he hasn’t even played an NRL game yet!

The best part of that article though is reading that Souths are being rejected, despite offering great money and the hilarious bit is the Roosters not being able to fit Suaali in because of their ‘tight’ salary cap 😂 When has the Roosters cap ever been tight??

Whats also interesting in the article is Souths asking for a development fee to release him a year early. Great idea but good luck with that.

Yup exactly - his management is putting more and more pressure on the kid to perform wherever he lands.
