A bit of a whisper from Souths, JAC will sign for next season.

The storm have shut down all negotiations until their season is finished, so how exactly could there be any new developments

Because, In truth No one at all abides by these rules.

Not surprised at all.

Disagree. It does not look like that at all to me. Madge and co say good things about him publicly, like they say good things about Packer, because you have no chance of ever getting another club interested in them if you don't. Even then no other club is interested anyway.

It's been made abundantly clear to both of them that the coach wants them out of the club, it's been made clear by them not being picked very often at all in the run on team.

If all Reynolds wants to do is play footy, then why does he stay at a club where he is clearly not wanted? Where he a lot of the time is not even chosen to play footy? Either way, we are stuck with Josh, Packer and Mbye...

The official cap is 9.5 million...those three staying means we are playing with 7 million vs the rest of the NRL plus their 'contribution'. Mbye at least plays most games, but all three combined contribute probably 500 000 worth to the roster.

So, basically, we are playing with a 7.5 million dollar squad vs fully loaded teams.

Its not just us - here is a list the DT put up of unwanted players. Had to laugh at what they put on Flanagan - surely that is a gee up.

BRONCOS

- Jack Bird (2021): $975,000

- Matt Lodge (2022): $650,000

- Brodie Croft (2021): $450,000

- Joe Ofahengaue (2022): $500,000

SHARKS

- Matt Moylan (2021) : $850,000

- Josh Dugan (2021) : $850,000

- Andrew Fifita (2022) : $850,000

TIGERS

- Josh Reynolds (2021): $850,000

- Russell Packer (2021): $750,000

- Moses Mbye (2022): $815,000

COWBOYS

- Josh McGuire (2022): $650,000

- Jake Granville (2021) $400,000

RABBITOHS

- James Roberts (2021) $550,000

DRAGONS

- Corey Norman (2021): $850,000

PANTHERS

- Dean Whare (2022): $460,000

ROOSTERS

- Kyle Flanagan (2021): $280,000

Not much talent in that list, just more of what we are trying to rid ourselves of.

Its interesting to look at Parra's response to their "failure". Apparently the high powered lobby mob who put the last board out has now put the current board and hierarchy on notice that if they don't improve next year they can start looking elsewhere as well. They have told the board they want a complete reshuffle of the coaching staff bringing in Paul Green and Shane Flanagan as assistants and appointing Tim Sheens as coaching director. They are moving on 11 players. And they finished in the top 4. Admittedly this was in the DT so may be a load of rubbish. However it does point out one of our problems as Snake keeps pointing out. We as members have no power to put pressure on the board. They really answer to no one. All we can do is wring our hands and complain on here. I suppose pulling the plug on memberships would be way of showing our discontent but i wouldn't see many doing that.

If we have lost JAC and Hetherington...Burton is not coming also....it is time to look in the mirror and realise we have an issue.

25 years and never landed a single current Roo or current NSW Origin rep. Only club to never land a current one.

Players use us to drive up their value. Then laugh and leave the table.

Even the Dogs can land them....Hetherington added to the big Pom once he has settled and that is a nice pack. We desperately need mongrel and speed....Hetherington and JAC both would have been great. The Pom said both were almost done a month ago...Lattrel was almost done...:Alex Johnson was almost done....

My question is WHY can't we close out deals?

Very good question Ellery!
Interestingly when players we are chasing are asked “are you signing on with the Tigers?” They respond very negatively about the prospect. Mat Moylan and Alx Johnston both angrily denied the option. This gave me the impression that they consider us a last resort, and/or their manager has talked to WT against the players’ instructions to get a favourable price point. I don’t trust anyone posting on here who claims to have inside oil on contract negotiations. Those posts could be made for or by the managers.
To answer your question and given what little information I have. my best guess is we have a real problem with administrative functionality. It would appear, we have worked hard at developing a cultural identity which clings to us like a ball and chain. It’s wrong and shortsighted of us to continually lay blame for our failures toward the coach and players. I often wonder what would have made Ivan lay land mines before leaving? Is it because he is not that intuitive as a coach? Or was he responding negatively to the way he was treated? Sometimes I think some people lie about wanting to win.
Again, very good question Ellery.

Alex Johnston might have angrily denied being linked with us but he couldn’t wait to come out recently to claim “how close” he came to signing with the tigers.
Just another Mummy’s boy who couldn’t cut the apron string and further his career at the Storm. I think he was not mentally mature enough to move out of the burrow so probably best he didn’t sign with us.

The comment I was disagreeing with, was all he wants to do is play footy. I am confident that yes he does want to play football, (he always appears to give it his best), but I didn't think that's all he wants to do. His own personla situation regarding money I feel certainly is a factor.

I agree with pretty much everything in your last post, except I don't feel comfortable when people say stuff like not one of us would do any different. It's a hypothetical situation we are talking about there, which we can't prove nor disprove, I'd like to think I'd be a little different, but who knows, as I'll likely never be in that situation or a similar one anyway.

I don't know him personally, so I yes can't say anything negative his character or dignity, but I won't assume them above reproach either.

The Board answers to the owners.

We don't want members electing the Board. They do so at the Dogs and it is , apparently, a divided and divisive Board, with members belonging to various factions.

For most of our history our Board was divided between Wests and Balmain and it is the main reason our club underperformed for a large part of our history. We are still trying to recover from those divisive years.

We need a united Board, not one that represents and answers to the various factions.

I think JAC will come, I think we are the only ones who can offer him what he's after, he and his family are massive fans of the club.
The only one’s with a chance was South’s, but surely they now have cap issues.
The signing was put on hold by the Storm (rightly so) during the finals. The Storm are the only sticking point, not us.
Next month will give us a better understanding of the situation. Have faith.

I understand what you are saying but the election process of our board is a joke. The nonsensical setup of the WA board which appoints the WT board makes those appointments based solely on their own biases. You can't overthrow the board of WA as members of that club don't have the power to do so. So in effect WT operate solely at the mercy of the WA board which is a law unto itself.

Good to see in the paper that Josh Reynolds has made a few more million on investment properties and has apparently found a new love. Thus no need at all to take up UK SL offers..............

Just our luck.

All jokes aside, but him leaving would have changed our entire club and allowed two really good signings. He is entitled to his money, but now that the whole "great clubman" myth has been exposed it is going to be fairly galling watching him begrudgingly sit on the sidelines for another 12 months collecting his 700-800 grand.

He has been an absolute disastrous signing. By FAR our worst as he is going to ride out the whole four years...at least Blair jumped ship.

thanks ivan

Yep. It is rare that a disastrous signing rides out a long term deal..

Blair left.

Even Bryce Cratwright bailed...!!!

But not our Josh, he is going to ride it out and essentially live off this deal forever with all his properties...which he is perfectly entitled to do.

But wow, it has been a disaster. Absolute disaster.

If he had of taken the UK deals it would have allowed us to go into 2021 with TWO more decent players of need.

I’ve lost all respect for Reynolds. The guy has no integrity and is happy to do nothing for his pay cheque. The club can’t make it any clearer that he isn’t wanted. Yet he is happy to be 18th man , earning $25k a week doing absolutely nothing. Spent more time injured then playing and looks likely to ride out this deal and not go anywhere.

This is just ridiculous.

At the end of the day the players are contracted for another year or 2. Unless someone comes along and wants them it will stay that way.

The bigger issue is how do we turn around our image over the next 2yrs to become a destination club.

COE development no doubt will help, gun youngsters & results will change the perception but at the end of the day it will come down to cash & 3rd/4th party deals.

Panthers, Bulldogs, Eels, Roosters, Souths and even Manly can offer more money on/off the park than us.

We are one of the top supported club but struggling to recruit is a massive blight on our mgmt to have cashcows will to fund player deals.

Genuine question ....how do 3rd/4th party details work? Are they outside the salary cap? is there any limit to the amount that a coach/player can earn through these deals? How do we know how much each club offers in 3rd/4th party deals?

If the third party has any link to the club there is an overall club limit under the cap. If there is link between the third party and the club, it’s unlimited

I think you meant "if there is NO link .....it's unlimited"? That's a worry. Thanks for explaining.

Oops exactly. I was on my phone

Good post Mikey and I agree with you that all the actual signals out of the club (actions not rumours or words) indicate it is being repaired. INO once we can translate into some on field success the gates will open to some extent.

I dont like him as a player and I dont like him as a bloke (mutual acquaintances) but I would agree up until lately that in difficult circumstances he has seemed to maintain a reasonable attitude and put in, however him leaving at half time at Brooky, coupled with the reports that he was a no show at the awards night indicate to me that he has thrown in the towel and is a passenger collecting his salary.
