Couldn't read the article but do not believe we would be interested in Widdop.

He's 32 next year. And I thought he wants to live in England now anyway. Probably a nothing story.

Kev Walters has indicated having a shake up at Broncos. He’s mentioned Lodge who is contracted for 21 and 22. I think he’s on $550k.
Seems to go beyond the advantage line regularly?

I’d sign Lodge in a heartbeat from what I’ve seen on the field. Would need to explore his off field attributes though

Last person I’d want here

Tony, I just think that if a new coach is wanting to get rid of players who are contracted then they need to be closely considered for cap management purposes. A slight tear of an acl slowed him down but he’s had most of 2020 and the next couple of months. I’ll put him down as a “value buy.”

No thanks# he is a grub

Up to five NRL clubs could soon start formulating big money offers after the shock revelation that former St George Illawarra star Gareth Widdop may be granted approval to quit Super League club Warrington and return to play in Australia on compassionate grounds.

News Corp understands the Newcastle Knights, Brisbane, North Queensland, Wests Tigers and Canterbury may show interest in negotiating with the English-born Widdop.

Wealthy Warrington Wolves owner Simon Moran – worth nearly $300m - is aware of Widdop’s personal desire to live back in Australia. Moran has been privately contacting influential NRL figures to determine whether Widdop could find an NRL club.

Widdop’s wife, Carley, and three children left England about six months ago to return to Australia. The star player is struggling and frustrated at being forced to speak with his kids over the phone or Skype.

He has not sought a release from Warrington and does want to honour the final two years of his Wolves deal yet close friends in England say the situation with his family is impacting Widdop’s well-being.

If an NRL club wanted Widdop and an offer was lodged, it is anticipated Warrington would allow an early release so he could enjoy more personal contact with his children again.

“Gareth is aiming to see out his contract at Warrington but his personal circumstances could change if he feels the need to contact clubs in Australia,” said Widdop’s manager Paul Sutton, from SFX.

Warrington had read about the Roosters decision to offload Kyle Flanagan, probably to the Bulldogs, and wondered if Trent Robinson’s side could be an option for Widdop.

But News Corp understands there is no interest from the Sydney Roosters despite the fact Flanagan is leaving.

Knights coach Adam O’Brien helped Widdop’s career while the pair were at Melbourne while Widdop’s dad, Gary, is a mad Broncos fan.

It is simply too early though for any clubs to start showing official interest in Widdop. Some clubs will only know Widdop could be available after reading this story.

The greatest hurdle in Widdop returning to Australia would be money. He is on a massive contract at Warrington worth around $900,000 a season.

Club list managers privately agree Widdop, 31, could earn around $550,000 to $600,000 a season in the NRL. He would need to accept a hefty pay cut.

Widdop is in the first of a three-season contract in England. He has had mixed success at Warrington with injuries and personal issues disrupting his much-hyped tenure back home.

He played 125 NRL games for the Dragons and 71 previously with Melbourne Storm. Earlier this year reports emerged of a possible swap at St George Illawarra between Widdop and Dragons star Corey Norman.

Norman did not harbour any ambition to play in England, the possible move then abandoned.

Widdop was part of the Melbourne side which won the 2012 grand final.

I would. Some time back there was some chatter that it was on as a direct direct swap with Reynolds.

So much speculation and very little indication we will sign any of the top guys.

I wonder what Maguires plan B and plan C is.

We need to find a few diamonds in this rough.

First of all Madge and Pascoe have to return from their holidays.

Pascoe returned 2 weeks ago and the football department is currently on break but Madge has been in to the club a number of times.

I will hold judgement until preseason starts but will be very pissed if we waited all this time to get JAC and he goes elsewhere and we end up with nothing except leftovers.. As a club you we need to be better as other clubs are picking up players and resigning players and we are sitting like ducks.. I have been sticking up for the club and impressed with all the talented juniors signed but hey us fans deserve something ,,

You don't know any of that to be true jonesy. You have no idea if they are waiting for JAC or investigating other options or both.

You will recall, the minute Tigers met Latrell and got the impression he wasn't genuine, they halted negotiations and never went back to the table with him or any of his representatives.

totally agree and that's why I will hold my judgement until preseason when teams are done but will be disappointed if we lose out on both options that's all. I do trust Madge and Hartigan as they have done a excellent job recruiting talented Juniors when we have had no money instead of paying way overs for more retiring players.. Also the media don't help us at all and anything we are even remotely involved in will always spin it against us.

Reynolds for Widdop... who says no?

Not me I would in a heartbeat ... Would most likely be a little cheaper but cannot see Reynolds wanting to leave Aus now as he has found love.

Thought Widdup left Dragons for "family reasons"?Looks like mom has taken a peek at north England and decided home is really where the heart is!
Rite now it has more Covid/capita than US
Also thought Widdup had a recurring shoulder(?)problem which he thought wld be more managable on softer UK grounds??He missed large chunks of recent seasons with Dragons on same issue
Been a great player for the Dragons, but at 32 suspect he done and dusted in the NRL.Weve got Brooks and Douhi to build on in the halves over next season, with JR as back up next year,so weve missed Widdups window by about half a decade and shld maybe leave it at that
Weve now got a heap of props, dont need Lodge or what he brings with him,but need sone quality backrowers to help out Luciano and some genuine speed out wide

Take Widdop any day. Brooks and Widdop would be great halves combination. What's more is Widdop is a very reliable goal kicker, something the club hasn't had for many tears.

Widdop and Brooks would complement each and make a great halves combination. What is more is that Widdop is a very reliable goalkicker, something that the club hasn't had for years.

We say yes. Widdop probably says yes (partner is here)...

Josh R laughs and says not a chance...sits out year (with no state cup likely) cashing cheques...

If suallii does sign with roosters where are they going to play him he is a 5/8 or fullback
Unless they move Kearey to half I don’t see where they would play him

Teddy wanted a 5 year deal and they’ve only given him 3. He’ll be 31, Suaalli will be 20

They’re a cut throat club, he seemed down on pace this year, if the Sualli rumours are true he’ll be seen as the 1 once Teddy’s contract is up

Did he end up signing yet or is it still ongoing?
