James Roberts has been released

Who would walk away from their contract and huge money without another deal lined up? This stuff only happens at Souths lmao

So do South’s still have him on there books for salary cap?
Otherwise it looks shonky

Souths are majorly shonky

Every time they have salary cap issues players are either retiring or walking away from contracts

I would imagine the release as effective 31st October. LOL

Funny isn’t it. He’s told he’s not wanted then suddenly he’ll ‘walk away’ from the money himself

Unless he’s having serious mental health issues and wants to move far away to better himself, which ultimately might be the reason, it’s dodgy as. Lots of money to leave behind

Souths:

- James Roberts walks away from 500k deal....No issue

- Alex Johnson signs 200k under value....Nothing to see here

- Talks of signing JAC despite it ultimately meaning 'club favourite' Alex Johnson would miss out.... Great Recruitment

- Burgess failed drug tests, club doctor breaking the rules.... Literally haven't heard anything about it since

Tigers:

- Let go Papenhuyzen as a junior despite having the best full back in the game in front of him.... 600 'delusional basket case tigers' articles still being written in 2020

Don’t forget the Burgi and Inglis retiring, a process which took about 2 weeks. Meanwhile it took matulino about 6 months who was well known for his bad knees for years

Personally, if the only thing holding up the deal is trading a player and it’s make or break then I would very easily trade Talau for JAC.... ofc depending on whether he wants to go.

JAC is a significant upgrade on Talau, a proven NSW and Kangaroo superstar who’s still young in comparison to a rookie who hasn’t really done that much tbh

I would get JAC, then I would look at James Roberts to fill in at centre I feel like a problem our club have had which has cost us finals runs imo is our lack of pace and X factor bringing in both JAC and Roberts would undoubtedly eliminate those weaknesses and instead turn it into our biggest strength

Roberts wouldn’t break the bank at all, would probably be like 450k which isn’t that bad for the quality of player he is and the coaching philosophy Madge brings may bring the best out of Roberts a former SOO player not long ago

Our combination of strength and pace in our backline would be the best in the NRL, with Nofa and Leilua bringing in that strength factor then consider the space they’ll create due to there top class tackle breaking abilities for both Roberts and JAC who thrive off that and would no doubt lead to a lot of points

2. David Nofoaluma
3. BJ Leiluia
4. James Roberts
5. Josh Addo-Carr

That’s the way I’d approach it

Whilst I admit looking at that backline with strength and pace is very tempting... I could however just imagine the amount of points we would leak both sides.

Very exciting but Talau and Kepaoa are going to be exciting players for WTs. I'd find a place for both.

The fact that Matulino wsa "known for his bad knees" is probably exactly why it took so long. We were *extremely* lucky to get away with that one.

You don’t reckon burgess having “bad surgery” on his shoulder isn’t a bit more concerning? Especially considering it’s a pretty low chance of actually happening

I think Burgess medical retirement was a complete scam. Just saying in my opinion we were lucky to get Mats ticked off.

Yeah fair enough, all I’m trying to say is it felt like a smooth, quick process for them but it seemed like a tricky, long process for us

Hope that the journalist who read these pages really do their job and call out this rubbish from Souths.

They can retire players off their cap when other clubs get stuck with players like Reynolds and Packer.

Its a massive double standard and one i thought would be gone once Greenberg got punted.

100% correct ... Burgess was about to get busted on all those charges .. domestic violence, drug abuse .. the NRL would have made him sit out the season on full pay .. and Souths to carry him against their salary cap .. by medically retiring him, the NRL wiped his salary from Souths cap .. he sat out the season had a shoulder recon, all those domestic charges came against him .. AT NO COST OR DISADVANTAGE TO SOUTHS !! now Burgess is thinking about coming out of retirement to play next season for Souths .. of course a 3 or 4 hundred thousands dollars below cost .. totally nothing going on here .. !! So by getting Burgess at a reduce price Souths will have enough cash to pick up JAC as well .. !! once again, totally nothing going on here according to the NRL .. !!

Honestly I didn’t think SBW was that bad when he played but I don’t see him going for a whole season of 20+ games. He’s old and slower now.

Inglis wasn't medically retired, he just "walked away" same as Roberts.

For all the talk about Souffs being the "spiritual home" for aboriginal players, there seems to be a whole lot of them leave there with mental health and substance abuse problems.
