We have good young props coming through the grades. Young players perform at higher levels knowing they are in with a chance of winning a Top 30 spot with the departure of a NRL player. It is exciting times and refreshes the squad. Being able to replace from within your juniors without the need to enter a bidding war is smart business. If we can negotiate an early release for Garner and Josh A we may be able to be able to pick up their young 5/8.

Paws, I don’t think it is possible to be really competitive with a developing squad, I want success and I want it now, sick of waiting .
Get some success and add the development into the mix.

We're in for a tough year in 2021. We may as well start implementing change by bringing in some of our juniors.

Most on here, including me, take what The Pom says as gospel. He obviously has knowledge or a relationship with our Management or recruitment team. If he was saying Aloiais signature was merely a formality when it’s obviously not, is it any wonder why our Roster is, and looks like will stay, garbage. They have no idea

The only thing i’ll say is things might change very quickly. Last year, Pom believed that a club swooped in and signed Josh at the last minute. Then out of the blue said he had re-signed, and it was announced that day. One thing I’ve learned is that what was true yesterday, might not be true today.

So far my main gain for next year is Tamou. Stefano has potential. Hope he does well. Still not really proven.

So far my main losses are: Harry Grant, Benji Marshall, Oliver Clark, Matthew Huth, Elijah Taylor. If we lose Josh too, that would be pretty hectic.

Let's see what happens rest of off season. Need a strong 2nd rower and a lock 😬

POM was also confident the meeting yesterday would be good for WT. Obviously they have some decent info but it’s not gospel like some people think. Let’s just hope they’re right in regards to our re signings now

Making the eight consistently is smart business.
And I don’t think you can do that without good experienced players

We've signed Tamou perhaps losing Alioai. We also have Stefano.

I read S Crichton has a new manager intent on getting the most $ for his client. Call me greedy but a Burton and Crichton raid from the Panthers would ease the heartache of missing JAC. I read an article that Crichton's father is a bus driver and a pastor in the same church brand Josh Alioai attends. It might be worth exploring.

Good idea only trouble is tigers go fishing for a whale and end up catching a tadpole

If we cannot keep players like Aloiai, then it shows that we did not learn anything, regardless of the new coach - the same old BS.
Lose the best players and keep mediocre plodders!

Roosters let LM go last season and got spanked in the semis, so it happens at all clubs.

Yes it does, but clearly on different levels. The Roosters still made the semis and if it weren’t for a cruel injury toll this season, they may even have won the comp. With their roster they could afford to let Mitchell go, us not so much.

Exactly right. Sides like Roosters, Penrith and Storm can lose good players because they have enough quality to compensate as well as having the ability to attract good players because they're a winning team.

Not enough realism on here. If we choose to let Aloiai go if he’s offered 650k elsewhere, how do we replace him?

It took 800k to get someone like Packer to come here, how much do you think it will cost to get someone of Aloiai’s quality from another team?

If we’re ever going to have a competitive squad we need to hang onto the few good players we have (Nofa, Aloiai etc).

Well said. On a related note, managing a team where remuneration doesn't reflect performance is very difficult, I find it harder to blame any player for looking after themselves when the money is there.

Decision time people.
You either have a recruitment policy with a set limit price the you consider the player is worth .... that you stick to .... or you allow every two bit manager take advantage and you get into a situation like we have with Packer,, Reynolds a Mbye.
You can’t have it both ways .... so we are at that point with Aloiai.
Nice forward to have .... has much potential but lacks real aggression, real line breaking penetration and only just this season scratched his way to a permanent starting spot and still very inconsistent.
A $650k forward ..... not really.

That’s a good point, don’t we now have an analytical team that measures players worth?

Got to trust them that they know what they doing.

End of the day you still need to spend X amount of the cap

Which means you will end up paying someone overs to spend that money anyway ...if that isn't the most half assed way to run a club ....

**670k i**s the figure, wish people would stop increasing the figure.

By the times his contract runs out he'll be touted as 950k.

Why aren’t we inserting performance measures into our contracts? Seems pretty obvious that this should be in all WT contracts going forward.

Aloiai was bad at stages of the year. His form especially fell away during the Parramatta game. Was a weak link in our defence and failed to make metres like he did earlier in the year. Good player, but hasn't earned the right to be a top earner in the forwards category.

In saying that, he does have a high ceiling and potential to be even better.

No current player gets an upgrade until we make the finals. One in all in, see if that gets them using their shoulders.
