Looks exactly like he has grabbed a handful of extra money and by all reports Ive seen, not even a longer deal and will probably be a benchy at best. Might not have done his career any good. But his new manager bumped up his 7%.

Maybe he is just happy to play for someone that wants him.

I hope he puts more thought into career development than that or has someone who does.

All this angst over aa bloke who set a club record for most missed tackles by a forward in half a game of football and then played 14 minutes the next week without touching the ball.
Negative Nancys on here will moan about anything apparently.

You don’t get it do you.....it’s nothing to do with his ability, it’s the fact the club stuffed up. They had a contract for him, he wanted to sign and someone stuffed up. Now imagine that we were talking a marquee signing. Madge told him he wanted him and there had been a stuff up. Reeks of the original JAC stuff up all those years ago.

I don't think you understand how human interaction works. Madge doesn't like confrontation so of course he tried to pump his tyres. Was he supposed to tell him the truth that he's a talentless nuff nuff and his statistics confirm that opinion?
It's like when you apply for a job, miss out, and the employer says you came a close second. It's never true but humans don't like confrontation and prefer massaging the truth to avoid it.
This should help in your future relations with other humans.

Didn’t he get NRL game time at the eels?

He did but not many, in his NRL debut he played 1 minute

Exactly, and that’s my point. We’ve let players go and haven’t thought to replace them.

Agree with this but, I think we only let players who got a start due to injuries go (even grant as good as he was).

The Twal Miakele and Musgrove injuries opened up spots in the pack and the guys that came on to the bench were not really up to NRL standard. Our results showed that. As for losing good defenders.... that's myth as well, results also show that at the end of the year..

Aloai would be a loss, but we can't pay overs at the moment and he would go year after next, hopefully some of the spare cash can go to him to keep him happy.

I worry about forward depth the most, then a distinct lack of speed

Are we better off - I don't know the bench is not very deep - like this year

Just read Luke Metcalf is unsigned for next year. Wouldn't mind picking him up for cheap and giving him the chance to earn the fullback spot over preseason.
Other players (apparently) unsigned that I think could do a job at the right price:
Tom Amone, Jack Johns, Tyrone Roberts-Davis, Dean Blore, Jaemon Salmon, Joe Lovodua.

BUT in the NRL, even though he appears to have a big frame, he didn't make the defensive line buckle, he appeared hit the line and NOT fight .. and got pushed back most times .. to me I'd say this kid is like one very large marshmallow .. I really hope that i saw kid play on his bad days, and he proves me wrong .. please, please let me be wrong.

We should take a leaf out of the dogs book to land signings. The way they landed Luke Thompson they flew over there to get the contract signed.

Let us not take a leaf out of anything Bulldogs do at the moment.

They are landing players because their roster is almost completely without talent and they have tonnes of salary cap to throw around.

You saw nothing.

The kid played what a total of 10 mins in 3 games. All at the end of matches where he plays the last couple of mins in a game that was over.
He made some decent carries. A full off season and he could well be our starting prop/lock next season Remember he was only a teenager this year .

Also note that IF Aloiai is released we'd suddenly have about $1.3-1.4 million and 5 roster spots left. Enough cash to sign some quality. The lure of a starting position could get us a quality player not getting the mins they deserve at the moment.

Chuck some money at Leniu, Toupuinua, possibly even Ofahengue, Flegler etc. There's some good young backs at Canberra too.
