Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Being one of the few clubs with money to spend and some
clubs needing to offload players to remain under the cap, we are in a strong position. This means potentially we negotiate with those clubs to release better quality players rather than accept the Mansours or Hopoates.

RE;BAGnf 05.---Mate Earl has a post of availiable players on the market, please peruse and make a suggetion.

I’m not saying there’s heaps out there, but we’ve sure given up some and missed out on plenty.

Next 2 years hopefully that all changes.

If we could bring in a Hudson Young and a Gareth Widdop (one yr deal) I’d be optimistic.

Im no rocket scientist ,but i think those1st tier players were not what the club wanted. They most likely had a go at Burton but seriously he is not 1st tier,JAC played silly games, and i think they are aiming higher eg Crichton or Staggs and others for 2020.

What is so frustating is that we, as supporters, don't really know much at all as to whether the club is currently still looking to sign new players this year. It could well be that the club has put its cheque book away for the next few months at least.

THE NRL’S ‘17TH TEAM’
23 Unsigned NRL players not much there for WT'S to look up

1 Jordan Kahu - $220,000

2 Tautau Moga - $160,000

3 Tim Lafai - $200,000

4 Ricky Leutele - $200,000

5. Brendan Elliot - $150,000

6 Tyrone Roberts - $100,000

7 Benji Marshall - $280,000

8 John Asiata - $250,000

9 Issac Luke - $150,000

10 Tom Amone - $120,000

11 Scott Sorensen - $140,000

12 Brad Takairangi - $180,000

13 Leivaha Pulu - $100,000

BENCH:

14 Danny Levi - $200,000

15 Jamil Hopoate - $110,000

16 Jack Cogger - $130,000

17 Nathan Peats - $170,000

RESERVES:

18. Sandor Earl - $120,000

19. Albert Hopoate - $130,000

20. Dale Copley - $120,000

21. Marion Seve - $100,000

22. Tyrone Roberts-Davis - $90,000

23. Malakai Watene-Zelekniak - $100,000

I wouldn't hate if Roberts and/or Roberts-Davis were signed to 2nd tier contracts and a 1st grade spot or 2 left open if we need to promote someone as injury cover prior to June 30.

After struggling to get LM and JAC over the line its becoming a little clearer to me that players think differently to fans. Looking at our club from the outside the trouble is our spine, its one of the lowest rated in the comp.

Two young unproven hookers, a good but limited half back, an unproven 5/8 and a fullback who at this stage isnt even at the club.

We cant do much about that. Its on the players in those key positions to back up the faith the coach has placed in them in 2021. Maybe then the perception of this club will change a bit.

For now i think we have done well with the outside backs we have recruited, as good as job as can be expected.

Hopefully we can round out the squad with a decent back rower and a spine player who can give us a plan B.

And that was the attraction to getting JAC
We need a fullback and he wanted to play fullback and get fullback money
If we had a decent fullback then you could understand why he would have picked to Dogs
In this case I believe it is much more about money

I just hope now the Tigers give the Dogs a hiding for the next 5 years
And Manly
And Parramatta
See the pattern here

Don't forget Ivan and the Panthers

Mentioned this on this forum about a month ago, but I’ve been told by those close to the Warriors that Israel Ogden has joined the Wests Tigers on a development contract. Played as a fullback for the Warriors in the NSW Cup. Warriors fans have big wraps on him. Anyone hear anything about this?

He looks to have ability from what I can see. A lot of money, time and effort has gone into 'promising youngsters'. Hopefully it pays off...

There’s an article here about the 3 junior kiwis we signed a few weeks ago, interestingly Madge spotted them watching a live stream of a NZ U18’s game and brought them over. There’s also a part saying we have 3 other junior kiwis but I’m pretty sure we already had them signed from last year.

I won’t post the full article but he’s helped set up more youth competition in NZ to keep the young talent in the NRL instead of union

Where are we missing signings ?We withdrew from one after putting in a solid offer,SO WHAT! this happens all the time in the game.As for other players,us and every side in the comp put in offers on various players ,we were succesful on three occasions ,and we are still in the market for more. Come on people get a life and stop whining.

As Nifty Neville Wran famously said, :You throw enoughmud some of it eventually sticks," The DT and Slothfield's constant negative press has created that image in some peoples minds.

Just watched Jock Maddens highlights on Utube from 2019,very impressive, would not be surprised to see him in the top grade,.

Sleeve, I watched most of the can’t cup in 2019 and madden was lucky to keep his spot was dreadful at times , can’t see him making the jump to NRL after what I saw . But we all see different things in players .

I agree 100%

I had tried find highlights of Jake Simpkin a few nights ago, have to admit the only one I seen that appeared was NSW vs QLD under 18? Croft was actually number 9 majority of that game.. So at this stage.. photos look good of him, but the Jake Simpkin stuff can pipe down until someone provides either good highlights or he has a run in first grade..

Your probably right, clips can be deceiving, but he looked quick with a good short kicking game.

We are nailing it on tier 2 and tier 3 players mate. Noticed how many tier 1 players the top sides have?

We are looking good for our canterbury cup side not so sure about the NRL side yet.

I saw highlights of Simpkin playing cup in Qld.Was scoring pies at ease, quick out of dummy half and knows how to catch the defence napping.Didnt see much of his passing game as I spose you don’t need to pass if you can score them yourself
