Long way from happening’: Sticking point in Souths skipper’s contract talks

Rabbitohs’ captain Adam Reynolds concedes he and the club are a long way from coming to terms on his next contract with both parties not on the same page.
While 23-year-old South Sydney teammate Latrell Mitchell was able to negotiate a shorter deal with the club, Reynolds is 30 and at the other end of his career.
Sporting News reported Reynolds wants a long-term deal to give him security after nearly a decade of service to the Redfern club.
“It would be ideal (to stay at Souths), but in saying that, it’s probably a long way from happening at the moment,” Reynolds told Sporting News.
“We’ve started negotiations but we’re not right on the same page at the moment.
“I’d like to play for another three or four years. I’d like to sign for three years.”
Reynolds has scored 33 tries and 1,636 points for the Rabbitohs since his debut in 2012 and won a premiership in 2014, while guiding Souths to three preliminary finals in the last three seasons.
Despite some injury issues in 2015 and 2016, Reynolds has played over 21 games in all of the last four seasons and believes he has plenty more footy in him.
“I don’t really want to sign a couple of contracts towards the back end of my career,” Reynolds said.
“I’d like that bit of security. It’s something that we’re sorting out at the moment and hopefully we can come to a conclusion.”
Reynolds was made captain of the club by Wayne Bennett last season, which shows the high esteem he is held in by Souths.
It means the chances of both parties working to get a deal done are good, but Reynolds believes he has earned the right to get the deal he wants just as Mitchell has.
Reynolds is the halfback and a key playmaker with No.6 Cody Walker and is a prolific pointscorer who has represented the Blues in Origin back in 2016.
However he said contract negotiations won’t distract him from getting the job done on the field in 2021.
“It’s always on the mind but it won’t affect any sort of footy that’s being played,” Reynolds said.
“Obviously you’ve got worry about your future, it’s in the background, we’re sorting through it at the moment but we’re still a long way from getting it done.
Go hard for him. This guy is awesome.
Would love to have him. Didn’t I read we have $800k left in the bank. Get him now!
Some how I don’t think they will release there starting half back 2 weeks before the season starts haha
And I don't think Wigan will do that with Hastings either!
Does anyone know if he went back to UK? Wasn't he meant to be back there today?
