There's a lot of optimism on this forum this preseason but I don't really see it. I like what Madge is doing in well priced athletic young players everywhere but we'd have one of the worst rosters in the league. Not bad players, most would make NRL squads, but no elite talent anywhere. Madge has cleaned the squad out a fair bit and I expect more short term pain for all that. I hope the new players work out and doueihi and mbye moving positions again, but there's really nothing yet to suggest we're competitive this year. I think next year is when I expect us to compete. This year anything above 12th would be a pretty good job by Madge. Again, I think we're doing the right things it is just going to take more time overcoming cleary's squad so I'm hoping the right players show promise this year and we're finally able to recruit quality players with money to spend to start lifting this team. For your own wellbeing, I'd encourage you just to look at the other NRL teams and think objectively about how many of our players would add much to other teams. I only really think brooks, twal, nofo, tamou, Luciano would attract much interest from other clubs. Maybe I'm forgetting 1 or 2 but most teams have better lineups.

Although I agree with this post ..... “worst roster” should not be part of the narrative.
In my assessment We are still a mid table side which will struggle because our spine is not settled, no established goal kicker and we are lacking in back row/ lock quality & experienced player.
There are more questions than answers about this side and that is not a good look.
But saying that I have hopes and am looking for improvement on last years efforts and that eventuates than we are just couple of good players away from the finals.

Idk about worst roster, but the spine is bottom 3.

Purely on name recognition. It’s definitely better than the broncos , Titans , warriors , cowboys , bulldogs , and manly . (Turbo is gone for a long time ) . It’s arguably better than the dragons and sharks as well , with Johnson out. I think people need to actually go and have a look at what other teams are fielding in round 1 . In the last few years a lot of experience and names , are no longer in first grade , or playing in SL. I’ll go through them if you like ?

I don't disagree with your comments and would have tended to agree with them after the end if last season.

There are a few positives however BJ is fitter, Brooks gets to stand up (We will know this season if capable), some genuine speed in the backline and some of the younger forwards now have a pack leader (Tamou) that will make them stand up when the going gets tough.

We have not paid over's with Players, recruitment has been smarter and generally positive with Reynolds gone earlier.
Can we make the Top 8 - think we will be thereabouts but must win games against the Eels, Knights, Warriors that we performed poorly against last season.

Today's trial will be a good test we came back to beat Manly last season if we win today and win well should be also positive. the 1st four games will determine 2021 we need to WIN at least 2.

Rumour on LU that Bulldogs are after MCK. I wouldnt blame him if he left or wanted to leave because he is unlikely to get much game time here, but 2nd row is where we have the least depth and he isnt on much so I dont see what we gain by letting him go?

He definitely wouldn't be let go this season given how thin we are at 2nd row. However if we can upgrade at some point, its cya later....

Of course he’d be let go if he had an opportunity somewhere else. He’ll be low in the pecking order this year. Which he should always have been, but given lack of quality, players like him get a lot of game time.

MCK - Think everyone is forgetting that he is more an impact bench player that can fill many different positions and has won us a few games at the back end, that's his role.

This will also be his 6th season with us, actually is one of the longest WT players along with Brooks. I actually don't mind retaining him if playing as a utility and quality depth.

At his age he's not going to get any better, makes more sense to sign someone younger in his spot who can do the same role.

Dylan Edwards has had one ordinary game in this Eels trial. I reckon we have gotten the better end of the deal in signing Daine Laurie. Panthers have prioritised the wrong bloke.

He looked alright to me. Did his job and grabbed himself a try, when you've got two halves and a Hooker who are attacking weapons he doesn't need to be a flashy fullback but he does his job makes good metres and backs up well

Laurie is probably better for us because he provides more spark but edwards fits that team perfectly. Just my opinion anyway, keen to see how Laurie develops with us

Yeah look agree. It was just my opinion that Laurie will work out to be the better player, more explosive. Could be completely wrong but I think we are on a winner.

I think he could end up being very good for us. Hopefully we can find his feet in first grade and become a star for us

If you look back over the years. Teams with a settled specialist player at fullback have been most successful. Well in fact that applies to most of the spine. But I believe fullback is one of the most influential positions. Tigers haven’t yet survived the loss of Tedesco. Let’s hope Laurie can grow to be a career fullback at our club.

I have been harping about this point for months,so i agree.

Just off the top of my head, I’d take our spine over Dragons, Broncos, Bulldogs, and probably Titans and cowboys.

Black, White and Gold glasses here

Didn't we finish above most of them last year? I rest my case.

Titans ...yeah right ....lol

I’d only take Brimson from their spine

And Fogarty ......glasses everyone ...remove your WT's glasses before you comment on the Forum please

27 year old journeyman who only made his debut last year? I just genuinely think we have better

Well he outplayed Brooks in 2020 ...based on that form .....we have a winner

A lot of halves played better than Brooks in 2020. But at the same time his ability was restricted ( in my view )

He has a lot more ability than what he showed in 2020 and you’re kidding if you think otherwise

Wait weren't you bagging Amone because he'd only played 9 NRL games at 24. How many had Fogarty played at the same stage?

Make up your mind and get off the the cool aid lol

I’m pointing out that the spine you’re referring to from last year isn’t what it is this year. Such a ridiculous thing to support your argument with. It has zero relevance to 2021.
