Warriors missed out on Hughes despite offering $2.5m. Another player to choose loyalty over dollars?

I guess having a genuine chance to win a few more trophies in the next few years is a greater lure than the $$.

CSmith going.

Bellamy going. Melbourne may start to decline.

player driven culture. Ryles will take the reins and not much will change.

If you think the Storm can lose Smith and Bellamy and not miss a beat you'll be sorely mistaken

Anybody who can play 1st grade on a regular basis must be a good player. Let alone 17 origins and 2 tests. He gets my respect.

Who was the coach when Ikin played for Brisbane , Qld and Australia and What is Ikins relationship with this coach

That coach of Australia in 1998 when Ikin played, didn't coach Australia in 1999
What a coincidence, neither did Ikin

Ikin was OK but I didn't think he was that good

What about the Test selectors ...did they get the boot .....

I can’t even recall what position Ikin played ..
Was he a Plodder or nuffie?
Either way I reckon he’s a cheese dick .

Pretty sure it was Fatty when he debuted for Qld and maybe Peter Louis at Norths, before he went to Broncos

Let's not bring facts to the table please.

Five eight and centre, depends who you ask, I think he went alright, he was really good for Norths, won a premiership at Brisbane, played 17 origins and 2 tests for Australia, but too some he is a nuffie or plodder.

Munster, Pap, Hughes, Grant with B.Smith still there for now is one of the better spines in the comp and Melb has a quality forward pack as well. Honestly can't see them not being competitive for some time.

I see us a lot like the Raiders in 2019. The team was shaped around Blake Austin’s style and he was moved on, moving Wighton from Fullback to 5/8 to get more involved.
To start the year question marks were on.
Team defence. Was poor through 2018
Hooker. With Hodgson returning from injury.
Fullback. No noted recruit was set to claim it.
Five eight. Wighton moving, does he have what it takes.
The forward pack. Both starting props being moved on, changing the size and style with Papali moving to prop.
The English recruits. Bateman and Sutton being unknown as how they would handle the NRL.

I’d say they shocked the rugby league world starting off so solid and going on with it for the majority of the season.

They were probably already rated higher they we are to start this year but also finished around 10th the year before and started the season with just as many question marks.

On Ikins comments and Ennis for that matter. What I noticed is although they may be pretty sure about their predictions. I found the whole show spent the least amount of time analysing us. Which makes me feel there is a level of uncertainty surrounding their statements.

NRL360 is literally the Daily Telerag in TV format. You couldn’t pay me to watch it.

Whilst I agree it's trash, you might be able to pay me to watch it. Depends how much you paid. Imagine if you could make a living or greatly supplement your living just by watching Fox Sports?

I'd have to call in sick every day that Bwaiff is on there though. Just his voice alone is enough to bring on dysentery.

I really hope we follow the Raiders trajectory. I recall Ricky Stuart having a massive whinge that they had missed out on several marquee players and that the club needed to land those class guys before they would ever climb the ladder. Next minute a group of poms and some young backs emerged and they just started winning close games that they would lose in years gone by. We are kind of in the first year after being in the same predicament, hope the experienced guys we’ve picked up and the young blood click this year.

Haven't heard Gus come out and say why they missed him .....won't be Gus's fault lol

Why would it be? - He's in the pathways program....

Don't you think he will have his hands all over recruitment in some way ,shape or form ...especially the bigger singings ????

Not a fan, imagine parents buying kids a Tigers jersey with Matterson on it then next thing he is off to the Eels. The jersey is about the club & the space on the back of it is an opportunity for revenue. A big no for me

I guess “loyalty” is a pretty loose description around the motives of a player to sign with a particular club? But it would give some fans a warm fuzzy feeling of days past.
A player may have several loyalties? Teammates? Club? Fans? Coach? Sponsors? Manager? Self? Career? Family?
Not necessarily in that order and I suppose each player could priorities that list differently depending on prevailing circumstances? Yep, I would be interested in Gus’s explanation too. When LM spoke about his reasons for knocking back a monster offer they were all soft objections, definitely nothing worth $600k over 2 years?
